Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s cold at about 2°and we had snow yesterday evening so everything is looking white outside
Have a lovely family get together grandmabatty and everyone else meeting up with friends and family today
It’s a quiet Easter for us as everyone is away so not sure what we’ll do yet. I think we’ll probably wrap up warm and go for a short walk followed by coffee out somewhere.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Morning Mick, morning all from a draughty corner of Somerset. The wind is reluctant to let go and there’s a dark cloud looming.

We were surprised how many Easter eggs were left in the two supermarkets visited yesterday. The day went well enough with an enjoyable trip to a small and fairly quiet garden centre in the afternoon.

I’ll go and visit a young friend who is in the midst of cancer treatment this morning then foresee a quiet afternoon at home. Chicken later as I’ve never eaten lamb and Mr C isn’t a major fan.

Easter wishes to you all.

Grandmabatty Sun 05-Apr-26 08:07:19

GrandMattie, it's an ice cream based dessert with chocolate and meringue( I think) throughout. It was popular in the 80s. Ds isn't a fan of desserts but has loved this since he was a small boy.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 05-Apr-26 08:09:28

Good morning from a brightish S E Essex.

Just the two of us today, so we will have roast chicken around 7ish.

It does feel strange having a quiet Easter, but hey no it is what it is🐣🐇🍫

Gingster Sun 05-Apr-26 08:12:02

Good morning all . It’s bright and the wind has subsided, here in Essex.

Yesterday was peaceful and I got a lot of my book read. I also watched all the remaining episodes of The Other Bennet Sister.
What a lovely, gentle series.

Today I’ll walk to the local shops for milk and bread. Little pooch can accompany me. Two birds with one stone.

Lamb for dinner here too. Steaks , as there’s only two of us.

I’ll walk up the hill to church at some stage. I have two to choose from, Catholic or C of E. I enjoy either. Dh and AC Catholic, me C of E. I’ll be the only one going though.

Enjoy the day , ✝️

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk on this Easter Day. I hope those who experienced storm Dave did not suffer any damage to house or garden.

We are meeting DS and family in our favourite pub in our nearest town for lunch. Their drive on the A12 should be easier than it has been lately because 2 new roundabouts have been opened, made because of the ongoing work for Sizewell C.

They are off to Derbyshire tomorrow until Friday so we’ll no doubt hear about their plans for trips down mines etc.

I hope all have a good day with hope of some peace and contentment in the future.

Good morning and Happy Easter from a much calmer Shropshire.

The wind has thankfully calmed down.DD1’s big gate has blown done and the post snapped, also a tree down in the lane.SIL is clearing it now.DD2 has a fence panel down, her neighbour replaced a panel from the last winds a couple of days ago.

We are off to DD1’s for lunch, DD2 and co will be there too😊H is very excited, he prefers Easter to Christmas even though he doesn’t eat chocolate 🤷‍♀️DGD went to an Easter singing day with John’s Boys so looking forward to hearing about that.

Lovely pictures Melanie.I always do a buffet too Grandmabatty to accommodate everyone’s likes and dislikes.DD will do a roast today.Happy birthday to all celebrating🥳

Wishing everyone a good day✝️🐰🐣

Good morning from a sunny N.Bucks after a very blustery night. It would be a perfect morning to get out in the garden but we have DHs mum coming over. Hopefully DH will at least get the grass cut before he goes to collect her. We will have to hope the weather behaves tomorrow when we will be free.
Thinking of all who are under par and wishing all a pleasant Sunday.

Good morning Mick and everyone from bright and breezy Carlisle.
I spent yesterday morning out spending...first in the local butchers where I stocked up on local lamb and pork and only ogled the bakery section. Then I went and spent big bucks in the garden centre. Their new stocks of rhododendrons were in, the big boys which were what I was looking for. I bought 2 though, in theory, I only have room for one. Small ones entered my trolley too and then I had to haul sacks of ericaceous compost. Glad to get home to a restorative second breakfast.
The evening was spent in trepidation, we'd had our yellow warning changed to an amber one from 7pm. Storm Dave didn't arrive till nearer ten and did it arrive! With a bang! I couldn't get to sleep for hours worrying about my back garden fence, but for once the wind was hitting the front...ferociously, with lots of rattling and banging.
I was surprised to get up this morning and find all in order. I've been for an early walk in the park, nothing major on the ground probably because the council have been round recently lopping the dodgy looking branches.

I'm in for rest of the day, I've done my exercise and I'm going to read the papers, magazines and books I've started.
Some of the lamb is for dinner along with wine and pudding, I let myself go a bit at weekends....

Enjoy the day everyone!

Good morning from Nottingham again and Happy Easter to you all.
Marzipan your start to Easter Day sounds very mindful, I hope it went well and the weather was kind to you.
We didn’t have much bother from Dave yesterday, it was a bit nippy at times and breezy rather than windy.
We went into town where I realised my limitations are getting worse, I was truly exhausted and we came back at 3 when I had a very long rest.
I revived enough to go out to a “Dining Pub” where we had a really good meal, we all enjoyed it.
We then went back to the Premier Inn and sat with a drink and watched the last hour of the football where the underdogs beat a good team to go through to to th FA cup semi final, it was exciting to watch.
A lazy day today with a late breakfast start.
Enjoy your day everyone and don’t eat too much chocolate.

grandMattie Sun 05-Apr-26 08:34:22

Batty, I well remember the posh viennetta, it was my misreading of the name as vendetta that flummoxed me!

Good morning everyone and Happy Easter from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton. No plans for today, a quiet.day indoors most probably.

Felt like a long day yesterday as I got the bus over to Rushden Lakes for a day of browsing the shops and lunch out. It was bitterly cold there with a chill wind. I bought a pretty.summer dress.from Next, but have yet to try it on - I can always return it to my local Next if it doesn't suit. Was very disappointed with the offerings from M&S, and my vouchers remain unspent; perhaps a trip to Milton Keynes will prove more fruitful.
Lunch was Spaghetti Pomodoro and wine.... which was delicious.

Will probably catch up on reading and tv today. Wishing all a pleasant Easter Day.

harrigran Sun 05-Apr-26 08:39:43

Good morning from a sunny but windy NE.
It was a very noisy night, had to wear earplugs to get any sleep.
No visitors yesterday but I wasn't very well so just took it easy.

All the family coming this afternoon, looking forward to after dinner recital as today we have two pianists, one of the pieces will be a duet.
GD2 had a driving lesson for under 17s yesterday, DS sent a video. Amazing what she achieved in one hour.
Have a good day.

Stilllearning Sun 05-Apr-26 08:49:56

Good morning and Happy Easter everyone. Well done baubles on your sacrifices for Lent! I excused myself on grounds of age and forgetfulness, ie I forgot to do anything😊 I have however, been reading The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin, do you think that counts?

Baptism in the sea at dawn Marzipan, what an amazing experience that must be. I hope the weather behaved for all of you and it was the joyful occasion you expected.

I’m up in Aberdeen spending Easter with one of my sisters and after a disturbed night with the high winds, there is a beautiful blue sky which is just perfect. We’re going to mass in Inverurie and lunch out afterwards. It’s nice to be together.

I hope your health settles down Mick and you’re able to enjoy your day.

Best wishes to everyone 💐for those who are having a difficult day.

Good morning and a Happy Easter Mick and all GN's on a still bright but cold morning in North Yorkshire. I am struggling to get going this morning, and so havent been out to see what damage , if any, the storm has done to the garden.

It was a wild night, and the wind was buffeting the windows and various rattlings etc and I do expect to see some of my pots moved about although the group I can see from my window which are all set together seem to have survived ok but the bird bath is knocked over. I have always quite liked stormy weather when I am snug and safe in bed, but last night could not get comfortable and so a rotten night all told.

Yesterday I went down to the market on the yellow peril. It was very busy and crowded everywhere and glad I wasnt in the car. With the weather warning and expecting rain yesterday afternoon everyone seemed to have made the effort to get out early. Got what bits I needed and some lovely rhubarb, which I shall enjoy today. I am not having a special meal today as tomorrow I am going to a friends and have got some lamb for a treat so we shall have our easter meal tomorrow together. To think we are surrounded by sheep in this area of Yorkshire the cost of lamb is so much I very rarely have a joint, although I love it just the usual simple way with mint sauce garden peas roast potatoes. Mm looking forward to it tomorrow!

I came home with my shopping and the Yorkshire Post, and spent most of the afternoon alternating between plodding through paperwork, and sending emails, and after I had managed to sort out one bit of hassle, awarded myself a look at the paper and radio 3 to enjoy with a coffee. The weather got more and more windy and grey , with occasional flurries of rain but didnt really pour down , so there was no incentive to go out into the garden, except to make sure that they cover was held down on the buggy and pots put close to the wall to keep them safe. There was no one about to speak to, as no doubt those who were not off and away were hunkering down at home.

So I am now really creaking this morning and so far the pain killers do not seem to be working their magic. I think back to many different Easter mornings over the years. At our church we used to have the service in the morning but first we used to stand outside and sing Christ is Risen. I remember a wonderful time in an orthodox church and another time when we were actually in roumania camping many years ago.

There were about 6 or 7 tents and everyone was up starting their morning. I decided to at least recognise it was Easter morning, and sing as I always did. So I just quietly began and two of the ladies in another tent, stopped what they were doing, looked round at the other tents and just stood and listened to me. At the end of the hymn both ladies looked quickly at the other tents and then turned and made the sign of the cross to me and smiled. That was in the days of Caesceusco (cant remember the spelling) . Another time I was living in Damascus and rather sad that there was no way I could have gone to Jerusalem.

Ah well we think back to so many things, doing pace eggs down the hill, having a lovely egg hunt for real bantam eggs in my grannys garden. Organising chocolate egg hunts in our garden . Once having fun with a few little suchards eggs where I stood in the middle of the garden and tossed them up in the air and the children ran about shrieking collecting them. Lovely memories. I shall watch the Easter service on the tv and think it is from Ripon cathedral today. Well I shall look forward to some wonderful music on radio three today to keep me company. If I improve a bit I shall make the effort to wander just round the garden and see if there are any more daffodils to snip the heads off. Ah rather lovely a blackbird sat on the fence and suddenly on the grass just by my window the squirrel was sat eating his version of an easter egg with a nut held in his paws. He sat looking straight at me the sun glinting on his fur. Wish he was a red squirrel of course but still enjoyed watching him.

Hope you are beginning to feel a bit better now Mick and enjoy your cycling. Grandmattie , there does seem to be some cheeky people in your church who leave all the work to you and others. I watched the Boat race too and was pleased to see Cambridge win. Melanie61 I have been to the Burton Agnes orchid show before. It is always worthwhile and I enjoy looking at them all. Dragonfly enjoy your Gardeners Fair. Wish I could go to one today. Ah well things may improve as the weather gets better. I just wish I could go right now and see all the daffodils around the walls in York or go up to Farndale and enjoy them there. Ah well I shall make the most of what I can see out of the window and hope for a better day tomorrow.

Wishing you all a very happy Easter and good times with families and friends and safe journeys to meet them all

Good morning from a very windy east coast but it’s bright. It’s been a tough night to sleep with the storm. It was so loud. The top of our house is wood and I thought I was going to get blown away overnight. DH slept downstairs and didn’t hear a thing.

As Melanie said the visit to the orchid festival was fantastic. The house amazed me with all its carvings as well. I took the exact same pic as Melanie in the main hall. We bought a huge orchid and a white bleeding heart from the plant sales too. It’s not really DHs thing to wander stately homes but I love it and could have spent more hours there. I think my GDs would love the space in the gardens and the woodland walk but DGS would be too obsessed with the water features to take him I think.

Today the family are over for a lamb dinner. I need to hide the eggs in the garden for the girls. DH bought two lovely yellow orchids for DD and DSs partner.
The lamb is in the oven as DH likes it falling off the bone. I made my stuffing last night so just got all the veg to chop. DH has made a cheesecake and he’s decorating it with mimi eggs. Of course it’s got to include GD1s finger print as she sneakily pokes it for a taste. It’s a tradition.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter Sunday with many moments of family joy🌼

Good morning from a bright W Kent. Happy Easter to all. We have DS and DIL popping by later but a quiet lunch on our own this year. Seems odd but the rest of the family are away with in laws.
I had a funny episode last night with a racing heart, spoke to 111 who were very good but just told to rest. Feeling rather weak this morning
Very best wishes to all

Happy Easter everyone, The sun has just popped out from behind the clouds.

DH and I have just woken up, our Easter service lasted two hours and finished at 10pm. I got home at 11,30p pm, there was so much clearing up, after a very full church.
We had five adults being received into the Church.
I think that must have been the longest Easter Vigil ever!

I spent the whole evening troubleshooting. The wind had blown out the pilot light and the heating failed. The church was freezing. 🥶
We usually have the Easter fire at the front of the church, but the strong winds made it too dangerous. We assumed that, there would be no fire, then the curate appeared and asked me to come with him.
He had the fire going in the presbytery garage. I was a bit concerned, for the P.P,'s week old car was in it! 🥵

After I had done all my chores, I slipped out to sit with DH. I had barely sat down, when one of the passkeepers appeared at my side. One of the front doors kept flying open and and banging shut. He wanted a key to lock it. (There are four front doors, so it wasn't a safety issue.)
I explained his group had a master, which would open it. He didn't know this. However, the key was missing. I then realised that their fellow passkeeper, who we think has Alzheimers, must have it. He is always taking it for no reason.
He already has caused various safety issues.

Last year, he refused help with the Easter fire and we nearly had to phone the Fire Service. He would not talk to us last night, because the responsibility had been taken from him.
As were were searching for the key, I spotted him coming down the aisle while Mass was being celebrated, waving the key. 🙈
It was like a farce. I was trying to be discreet and he was shouting in a loud voice.

A while later, the passkeeper was back, asking me to come with him. He is deaf and couldn't hear me. I said we would go the side door and he could tell me in the hoolie and torrential rain. I was drenched!
Someone had decided to leave early, and had shouldered open the locked door , despite there being three other doors in the porch. I was absolutely fuming!

The drama kept happening, as Mass went on!
I am changing my name to Yoyo! I was up and down all night!

We plan a quiet day, I can smell the turkey roasting and I plan to make a lemon tart, church business took up so much of my time yesterday, I didn't get it done.
Also, I never found time nor the courage to sort my tooth, I will try today.
The P.P. gave me beautiful flowers and Prosecco, and DH and I will drink it tonight.

Marzipan, I like the thought of your beach service, but a tad chilly for those being baptised. I put warm water in the baptismal font last night!

Wishing you all a lovely day.

Wishing everyone some happiness this Easter xx

Morning Mick, & happy Easter wishes to all the Grans.
Sorry you aren’t feeling well Mick.
Put your feet up as I don’t think there will be anything opened today.
Taking my 85 year old friend who has dementia to Easter Mass this morning.
Will both have to wrap up like ‘Nanock of the north’ as it feels really cold & windy here in Lancashire.
Take care out there everyone 👍🏻
