Good Morning Saturday 18th April 2026
(39 Posts)Good morning from Bristol, where it is barely dawning, although the birds, the blackbird in particular, are in full voice.
Yesterday was interesting. I met the church hall caretaker and we started to change the fabric on the sound boards. Being the first to be done, it took a long time, and we were affected by the years of accumulated dust - it would appear that they hadn’t been vacuumed since they were put up, some 20 years ago, I believe…
We were pleased with the result, until someone appeared and said they found spots difficult, they affected their eyes! Bother!
We carried on and did only three of the six as we had run out of time. The caretaker suggested that we should wait for feedback before carrying on.
Book group in the afternoon - this one is to tell people what you have read. The forecast rain started but was shorter and less fierce than expected, though the wind was very strong all day.
Today, I’m serving coffee in church; I hope my “other half” is someone I get on with. I’m always try to be pleasant, but dislike the heart-sink caused by some people.
Have a gentle weekend all, with respite from your troubles.

Before and (spotty) after…
Good morning from a clear, fresh and brightening Cornwall. The sky is looking beautiful - a sunny day ahead methinks. My landlord came yesterday, surprised that I'd assumed he was coming to look at the fallen tree, which he didn't even know about! He was investigating an issue with someone living in the road far above my wild garden. Anyway he now has the tree to deal with but is a lovely positive man who takes everything in his stride.
Am planning how to clear my allotment in stages, as I've accumulated a lot of items over the years, but won't go there today. Trying to get over a flare-up of bronchiectasis. Later I'll be seeing my arty daughter-in-law to help paint her new bungalow.
Funny to think that cornergran is (or was - not sure which day she was heading for the Eden Project) not far from me. Our town council have started putting up the summer bunting, which brings joy to us all, threading through the streets and between the trees.
Sorry, photos haven’t loaded from phone. I’ll try again..
Good morning from a bright looking Torbay with sunshine promised for several days!
I had a lovely chat with my daughter yesterday as she drove to work. Her first week back at school has not been without incident, including one with a parent whom she had asked to park somewhere safer rather than on the corner of a junction directly opposite the school gate, quoting from the Highway Code to support what she said. He responded by calling her s***face!! It is possible that he didn’t know who she was as his child has only just started attending the school. No excuse though.
I hope your bronchiectasis soon clears, Marzipan22; take care of yourself.
A happy weekend to you all. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩
Good morning from Sheffield
granMattie, the fabric looks great. I’m not sure about that person complaining about not liking spotty ,the previous fabric looks a bit spotty too.
There are always people ready to complain but they’re not prepared to do it themselves are they
I may just do a little bit of shopping this afternoon and then take it easy. I will have an hour in the garden as well
Take care everyone
Good morning from Malta where the forecast promises a fine day with a high of 25°C.
Yesterday, after a lovely walk with Milo and a relaxing half hour at the hairdresser, I went to Eurospin (similar to Lidl) and found it in a mess with a section cordoned off. Apparently they are installing more self checkouts which is not good news to me as I loathe the things. The cashier who told me the news was not happy either, as she said the owners would rather people use self checkout so they don’t have to pay any wages to their workers.
DD3 and the boys came over after school and I had fun playing with them whilst their mum took a much needed nap. She does far too much in my opinion, takes after my late DH who always had to be busy and on the go.
This morning a small amount of ironing needs my attention plus some general ‘jobs aboot the hoose’ as the lovely Soop used to say.😢
A definite improvement, grandMattie, presumably the spots won’t be so busy once they are covered by notices?
Wishing you all a peaceful day. The diggers have just started up so mine will be anything but until 5pm. Thank heaven they don’t work tomorrow so we shall have some respite!☀️
No notices. The boards are “sound boards” to dress the bare room and improve the echo and reverberations.
The spots on the old fabric are little pieces of wool, which bored children have been pulling off - hence the bare patches.
Good morning from dry s somerset, a lovely day ahead with sunshine
Ready meals made yesterday, 8 of them and all in the freezer. It was so quick in my old duromatic pressure cooker and then I did a little bit of transplanting, just the first stage after seeds popped up.
Dd and dil went to see their first ever allotment yesterday, They have been lucky, the last owner has tidied up. I tidied my last one too Marzipan, it was a privilege to have had stewardship of it for 8 years and was time to pass it on. It is a kind thing to do for someone else
I changed things for sleep last night, I am a side sleeper and realised that tucking my lower arm under my pillow has been stretching my shoulder muscle backwards. No wonder I have been aching through the night, shoulder and hips. Three extra cushions in bed with me last night and like magic, no pains
I will be cycling to my allotment later today, only taking my hori hori for weeding but I may take the long way home, depends how fit I feel
Oh dear Ash sounds like yet another problem family
Good morning from Cambridgeshire. Im hoping the sun will emerge early and I won’t be too cold as I am taking my 7 year old dgs to football today. I am apprehensive as I will encounter my ex son in law (never easy) but will keep a low profile. DH has his last indoor bowls match (fun day) keeping him busy all day! Back for lunch and then hopefully we plan to go to see The Magic Faraway Tree at the cinema. DD2 is taking my 12 year dgd shopping and the theatre and out to dinner. My dgs isn’t impressed he is with me all day and no grandad so fingers crossed…
Hope everyone has a good day and those struggling have an easier day today 🌷
Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather cloudy Carlisle where it may well brighten up later.
I had my hair done yesterday then it was back to potter about, do some admin and read.
Today, into town to collect a prescription and I'll top up my veggies and try and find some birthday cards whilst there.
Back home to tidy things away, my little spare bedroom is a dumping ground currently. A nap may happen after lunch, I've been awake since 4am and no amount of soothing music from Classic FM could get me back to sleep as it can often do. I think the problem was a full 7 hours of deep, unbroken sleep the night before, a rarity.
Sorry, grandMattie, I think I'm with the anti-spot person. I'm prone to migraine and vertigo and sitting in front of those (or stripes) would be uncomfortable...they tend to swirl with any slight head movement. But I hope you can get away with them. The dark blue background is pleasantly restful and better than the previous white.
And wishing you all a pleasant weekend.
Morning Mick, morning All from a clear corner of Somerset
It’s today we’re off to the Eden Project marzipan so I must get a wriggle on. Looking forward to it, it’s years since we’ve been as the last time we were in the area we chose to visit Heligan. Hope you feel better very soon.
Best wishes to all. Have the best day you can.
Good morning from sunny south Gos, hopefully the sun will shine all day, I need some!
Yesterday the kitchen was done, along with the kickboards so that’s ticked off, I also did the bathroom and loo and the hall - it’s only tiny but stuff accumulates there. Felt knackered by the time I’d finished but pleased with my efforts.
Bigger dog had her dog walker, DH took tiddler out so the three of them were snoozing by late morning 🙄
I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken for dinner, there’s plenty left for today so no major cooking for me, hooray. I will do DH a jacket potato to have with his.
I finished my embroidery, I will start another today but I also want to make a needle roll so that will keep me happily occupied for a few hours.
I love spotted fabric grandMattie; those sound boards look very smart. You’ll always find someone who’ll have a moan, won’t you?
I might start on sorting out my affairs today, I guess I need to get a will done, POA etc, I did start a few years ago but never finished it. Perhaps I need to write a list, that would help wouldn’t it?
Sending best wishes x

Good morning from Stockport.
My phone says it is 9 degrees but it feels chillier to me.
Forecast is cloudy but dry.
I have had a decent night’s sleep for once, I enjoyed my outing yesterday but fell asleep on the sofa when I got home.
I bought a cost for wearing casually and some other bits.
Seven years today since my H died so a day of reflection for me, we had been married for over 60 years but dementia had taken the real him away for more than 10 of those.
Have the best day you can everyone.

* GM* me too re anti-spot. I wasn`t brave enough to say in my previous post. The navy is glaring and can affect anyone with an eye problem or migraine potential. Pinned posters and pictures would lessen the spotty area
I have just been on octopus to see about a credit withdrawal. They suggested £174 and one click later, it was done. Better the money is in my account
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the is shining. There was a light frost on the car last night, and this morning the pressure had dropped out on the boiler for the second time this month and there was no heating or hot water. I have repressurised it but it’s going to mean a call to the engineer I think. I’m wondering if there’s a leak somewhere on the system. Nightmare!
Nothing much planned for today apart from a run to Aldi this morning and a tidy up as DD and the menfolk are here tomorrow for lunch. Perhaps I’ll do a bit of gardening later if the sun stays out.
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good Morning all from a lovely sunny central south coast.
We are off to get "stabbed" (as DGD1 used to call vaccinations when very young) later this morning but nothing else much on the agenda. No doubt things will crop up as they tend to do.
DH's desk top computer won't switch on again this morning and he is using the chrome book but really needs to bite the bullet and get a new desk top one. It has been doing this trick now for some time and clearly has come to the end of its usefulness after many years. He finds spending money quite difficult being a thrifty Yorkshireman (short arms and long pockets is not too far from the truth!) He does all our finances on his desk top and it is much easier to see and work from than from the much smaller chrome book or phone.
Hope the day is a good one for us all especially those with struggles or troubles.
Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.
Pilates was brutal yesterday so I shall be resting my aching legs today although I may do a short walk as it seems a shame to be in all day.

Hoping everyone has the best day possible.
Morning, high cloud in S Hants and 7, no rain forecast for the foreseeable.
Yesterday was Tesco delivery then Friday evening catch up in the local, first time since December for me, so good to see people. Hugs, flowers and plenty of chin wag.
Not sure about today, MrJ might be taking grandson to football, I need to clean hob and cooker door.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s another sunny dry and mild morning and I think a dry sunny day is forecast.
Some new garden tools were delivered yesterday and I hope they will make it easier for me to manage the garden myself. Gardeners are hard to find here, most of them just want to cut the grass and nothing else.
utbb a sad day for you
Enjoy the Eden Project cornergran, it’s a long time since I last visited, no doubt it’s changed in that time!
rosesandlilac well done for cleaning the kitchen including the kick boards! Good Luck with dealing with all the admin, writing a list is a good idea, then you can prioritise the tasks.
Best wishes to all those in pain, physical or mental, and those who are caring for poorly loved ones.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe Bay where the dreary weather is forecast to improve. It’s as well as we are having a family meet up today. I believe Pizza is promised.
DS s house buying problems continue, he’s was turned down again a second time for a mortgage , this time because the house valuation failed. They reported it was surrounded by non residential properties on a very busy road- a blatant lie- it’s in the middle of a terrace with a row of terraced houses opposite! Onwards and upwards, another application is in and we await a third valuation. His mortgage broker, who we are dealing with on DSs behalf, seemed genuinely shocked as he knows the area well.
My sister in law and her husband called yesterday and we spent the afternoon reminiscing and walking Crazy dog on the shore, culminating in a visit to a newly opened hostelry which advertises tea coffee and cakes.
An enjoyable afternoon which helped take my mind off DSs problems!
Thinking of all with worse problems than me! Take care everyone.
