This evening it’s chicken risotto as I needed to use up some leeks and yesterday’s roast chicken.

It’s happily cooking in the Thermomix whilst I waste time on SM!

Risotto is my go to comfort food, I just love it and I always have ingredients to cobble one together.

I am surprised how many of you have puddings, for us it’s high days and holidays only.

I think I would be the size of a house if we started on the puddings.

We only rarely have them too. Usually when guests are with us. I do very occasionally make one just for us - a rice pudding if there’s milk to use up, or a dh favourite, a chocolate blancmange!

Ditto cakes! I only ever make one when guests are due, or for a family birthday.

Breakfast/lunch/dinner are how I describe three, not always square meals.

I eat breakfast late, so sometimes that runs into lunch for me, I haven't eaten it yet.

Two exclusions apply, when dinner was and is in the middle of the day at school, forever known as "school dinners" Christmas dinner - in our household around 3 pm.

Lunch can be something light, sandwich, soup, jacket potato, or, if out to lunch the most substantial meal of the day.

Tea is an afternoon affair, pot of tea, scones cakes etc.

Dinner in the evening, main meal of the day, if something more substantial hasn't been had at lunch time.

Some people refer to the evening meal as supper. Although, as others have stated, that could also be some morsel type of meal in the evening which tends to conjure up a Dickensian vision. for me, I don't know why.

I perceive many of the differences are regional.

I'm so sorry I seem to have added a post instead of starting one 🤦

When I was young we had breakfast, dinner and tea, school dinners, Christmas dinner, and packed lunches for a trip. Now it's Christmas lunch and school lunches. Our Christmas dinner consists of several meats, four veg, mashed and roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy and pudding. That's a dinner.

Our evening meal with small Gchn this evening was a pic’n’mix.
A bread wrap each to fill with our own choice of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado and grated cheese. Gchn aged 2 and 4 really enjoy doing this - no left overs!

For Thursday I have planned

Kipper - but it will probably be porridge as I forgot to take them out of the freezer.
Main meal mid-day as pacemaker clinic for DH late afternoon.
Cold roasted chicken, jersey royals snd salad.
Cheese on toast for later.

Although I have grotty toothache and eating is not easy atm. Hoping to get to see the dentist tomorrow (Thursday) as I am not sleeping very well.

Since I have made a vast batch of my semi-veggie mince today (much of which will go into a mega shepherd's pie for DD’s family) a small part of it will later have a tin of kidney beans, tomato puree, chilli powder and paprika added.

We will have it in wraps, with grated cheese and salad.

I haven't found any yet!

Delivered today.

But I’ve just had that tooth extracted - sat here feeling numb, sore, achy and with a gap😮. So I won’t be eating much today. Nor be leaving the house until the gap is filled😄😄

I had planned to make a cottage pie , with a potato and celeriac topping, for dinner this evening. But I went out with friends for lunch and didn’t feel like cooking when I got home. So DH and I had a sort of picnic , from bits and bobs instead

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Apr-26 19:15:30

Steak and salad for me.

Steak, chips and mushrooms for DH and GS. GS will also dive into the coleslaw and cucumber

Sago Thu 30-Apr-26 21:01:29

I've just had toast and homemade smoked mackerel pate. Tonight I will have a baked potato with cheese and beans.

Jaxjacky Fri 01-May-26 13:00:07

Just eaten brunch, wheat biscuits, prunes, blueberries and half a banana.
Dinner was cottage pie with some lentils added in, sadly mince is still in the freezer, so cheese/onion quiche, new potatoes with carrots and peas.

JamesandJon33 Fri 01-May-26 13:44:14

Lunch was mortadella and cucumber sandwich with a handful of vegetable crisps. Plus a bowl of blackberries and sreawberries with coconut yoghurt, and a very dilute glass of elderflower cordial. Dinner tonight is a cottage pie, I made, eventually, this morning. It has a potato and celeriac topping and I think we will also have broad beans.
