If you bought a potato salad would you expect potato?

Amongst other irritations 😂

I bought a 3 for £8 deli selection from big Tesco. One of those 3 was a potato salad with 4 cheese. Not a single potato 🥔

My son said it wasn’t meant to have potatoes in. It was just a 4 cheese dip and maybe a smoothed potato confused

I’ll try and find a link to the product

to me potato salad should mean chopped potatoes and mayonnaise then chuck in some cheese if you wish

Wyllow3 Mon 04-May-26 09:34:42

🤣 nice one.

Ha ha! Wyllow - so should the potato salad!

Was referring to that.

I make my own potato salad, at least every other week.
To me potato salad does not contain cheese.

Me too, in summer. I’m never keen on shop potato salad - too vinegary or something. I just add mayonnaise, but not too much, I don’t want it swimming - S&P and chopped chives, or the green of spring onions.

If I have sour cream in the fridge, my GD loves Fajitas and may have bought some, I use a small dollop of that along with mayonnaise and then chives in season or finely diced red onion in winter.

Under these circumstances I don't think it was unreasonable of you to expect a potato..........😊😊🤣

NotSpaghetti Mon 04-May-26 16:20:59

Sorry Wyllow - thought you were talking about the no-cheese cheese.

I make potato salad often. I don't use cheese, mayonnaise, pesto or tomatoes. Perhaps the picture was a clue to mashed potatoes and other items.

I might have to buy it again to see if they all don’t have potato in. It reminds me of a time I ordered a ploughman’s and there was no cheese

There might be a theme running here

JaneJudge Mon 04-May-26 16:57:22

Norah the pesto and tomatoes were nice! But the rest was like a cheese dip. There was nothing wrong with it though even though it had no potatoes 😂

Yep it says baby potatoes so I would expect to see some!

Does that mean newly born baby potatoes 🤔

Nurseundercover Tue 05-May-26 14:24:03

As it advertises baby potatoes you should be able to identify them. Why would you go to the bother of using tasty baby potatoes if you mash them up. I would write to Tesco and tell them you were disappointed.

Cossy Tue 05-May-26 14:32:37

Yes, I’d expect potatoes in a potato salad grin

Wouldn't have an issue with the cheese, but I would be miffed about the missing potato.
"Baby potatoes in a creamy 3 cheese mayonaisse" sounds like your son's wrong, & the potato robot skipped your pack or just dispensed mush.

Review from 2 days ago:
Unfortunately the pack I purchased was severely lacking in actual potatoes, though it states 47%.

Kats2 Tue 05-May-26 16:47:54

They're usually small new potatoes as opposed to big spuds like king edwards…Jersey potatoes are usually small as well..

Silvertwigs Tue 05-May-26 17:49:18

Definitely should have had something resembling baby pots! 😂

I bought these, see screen shot, I know they were reduced, but nothing in the packet except dusty soil!

AuntieE Tue 05-May-26 17:55:59

If it is sold as potato salad, it must contain potatoes, sliced or diced. If there are no traces of potatoes than obviously it is a faulty batch or a breach of the laws governing advertisments (Sale of Goods Act)

Tell your dear son to use the little grey cells le Bon Dieu gave him, to quote Hercule Poirot. (Or a dictionary, or a cookery book),

I need to buy some easy tapas-style dishes so I'lll go to Tesco and taste-test for you.

Do you think they'll object if I take a spoon and test all the potato salads for potato?

When is a potato salad not a potato salad ........

Mojack26 Tue 05-May-26 20:05:03

I would take it back!

On a slightly different note, my SIL ordered Risotto in a restaurant. When I enquired is she enjoyed it, she replied "it was tasty but far to much rice". Medals for me for keeping a straight face
