It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

We were just on our local A road where the tarmac is melting (2nd time this year!) and the car registered 37.5 C. We are not even in the red zone!
Made the most of the air conditioning in both Waitrose and Tesco and now we shall hunker down!
Keep taking the cold drinks, Kitcheners!

brook2704 Fri 26-Jun-26 19:23:09

Hi kitchen pals, we’ve had rain and thunderstorms up here in Inverness today, looks better now though. I’ve been to the gym for a couple of classes, it’s good to get back although I’ve a few aches and pains
It was good to hear how Mr Soop is getting on baggs, thank you for the update.
Hoping the extreme heat further south is bearable, nothing like that here! Whilst we’ve been away the garden has flourished, there’s no much cutting back and tidying to do - maybe tomorrow
Hope the hairdo lasted today fgt 😀

Hi all, 26 now from a high of 30, so much better than the previous few days.
Hospital appointment am to discuss treatment for my osteoporosis, it’ll be 6 monthly injections at my local surgery. My bloods show above average vit D and good calcium amounts, necessary before treatment.
MrJ is at his bowls club for f&c and bingo, I chickened out, it’s unfamiliar territory and my confidence has taken a big knock with the hip debacle.
Next time 🙂
Enjoy your evening all.

Redcar Fri 26-Jun-26 19:58:16

jaxjacky my next door neighbour is on 6 monthly injections at the doctors surgery. I’m now on annual infusions after 4 years of a weekly tablet. I wonder how the doctors/consultants decide which treatment is appropriate! My neighbour doesn’t have any side effects from the injections.

We’re not in a red health alert area here in East Anglia, but Suffolk was the hottest place today! My garden thermometer isn’t reliable so always reads higher.

Have a good evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Jun-26 20:22:43

Thank you Redcar helpful.

‘Evening All’

Today’s funeral went well, I shed a few tears during the service - as much for my man as well as my friend. It’s still early days for me as a widow.

It was good to put faces to names in the pub where refreshments were served after the service, as I didn’t know anyone.

Oh and my ‘up do’ stayed in place. ✔️

I think it might even stay put for tomorrow’s lunch with my brothers in law and their wives. 🤷‍♀️
Now then …. where did I put those knickers? … 😁

dragonfly46 Fri 26-Jun-26 21:58:48

Thank you for the update on Mr soop Baggsi look forward to hearing from him.

brook2704 Fri 26-Jun-26 22:04:40

It’s good to know what the treatment plan is Jax, hoping all goes well with no side effects 🥰

Usedtobeblonde Fri 26-Jun-26 22:11:09

It has been 34 here today and I felt really unwell for the first time.
I also felt very tearful, I don’t know how to cope if the summers are to be like this.
I have just come up to bed and my west facing bedroom is like an oven, fan is moving hot air round.
I hope you are all coping better.
Temperature is given 28 tomorrow and then 21 for a few days.
Sorry to feel so sorry for myself , it isn’t like me.

gillgran Fri 26-Jun-26 22:21:40

Yes, Nannytopsy & Redcar, E.A. really hot!
our part of Cambridgeshire has been excessively hot, each day this week has been hotter than the day before!!
I always say, "20 is plenty!"

Good of Baggs to keep us in the loop regarding our dear soop. flowers

Warm & caring thoughts for you all. x

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 26-Jun-26 22:31:06

Hello kitchen people.

Yes, this weather is interminable! It was supposed to cool slightly today but it was 33! I drove myself to the hairdresser. She said the town was like a ghost town.

I spent the afternoon in the lounge with a fan and made a salad for dinner. The sort of salad my mum used to make with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, ham and hard boiled eggs. New potatoes too.

Sleep 💤 tight.

gillgran Fri 26-Jun-26 22:31:57

Utbb, hopefully after tomorrow it will be a bit more comfortable. My bedroom faces S/W, so very warm now.
I have a very good fan, but think we will have to think seriously about fixed air-con. ( is there a thread about A/C?)
We have a unit at our little home-from-home on the Norfolk coast, but not here.hmm blush

Redcar Fri 26-Jun-26 23:15:40

My bedroom faces west so gets the sun from about 3.00 until sunset. I’ve got a fan on but the thermostat on the landing says it’s 31.5!! If I can’t sleep I’ll go downstairs where it’s marginally cooler.

utbb I sympathise, I don’t cope with the heat as well as I used to and don’t really know how to keep the house any cooler.
I’ve been looking at some sort of film to stick to the windows, but it works best if it’s stuck to the outside, fine downstairs but difficult upstairs!
Night night everyone. Fingers crossed we get some sleep.

Jaxjacky Sat 27-Jun-26 09:27:21

utbb you sound so despairing, I’m not sure how to offer help. Could you perhaps get air conditioning in at least one room to make you more comfortable?
Take care dear lady, hopefully today will be easier.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 27-Jun-26 09:59:52

Usedtobeblonde I hope you are cooler today.

Feet in cool or even cold water helps, worth a try.

It was mid 30’s,when we went out to dinner last night, and our bedroom was the same most of the night. Thunder rumbling from just after midnight, heavy rain and lightening joined the party around 3am. Of course DH slept through, unfortunately I didn’t, and feel exhausted.

I am going to the Take That concert tonight with one of my daughter-in-laws, dinner first and then into our hospitality seats (courtesy of DS3 he knows they way to keep his wife and mummy happy 🥂🍾🩷)

Thinking of those in the quiet corner 😘

Charleygirl5 Sat 27-Jun-26 18:39:41

I live in London and it has been mid 30's here. No rain unfortunately but Monday may be cooler. Both legs are bandaged so I haven't had a shower for 2 weeks. I thought I had bin bags here but no so they are ,coming tomorrow via Tesco,

FGT I am jealous of where you live. Surely the store wouldn't mind you sitting quietly with your book beside a freezer?

Jaxjacky Sat 27-Jun-26 20:27:03

Have a wonderful time GG13 🕺
Oh no, Charleygirl how frustrating for you, roll on tomorrow.
At last, it’s cooler, lovely, even earlier at 27 it was humid, no sign of any rain, we’ve just had a bbq, full tums ready for the ⚽️.
Earlier we called into our local and caught up with people, the pub is gearing up for a busy night, we were one of the last few to have real glasses, plastic from then on.
I hope you’re more comfortable utbb.
Hugs to the quiet corner, Baggs and Mrsoop

dragonfly46 Sat 27-Jun-26 21:42:03

Today was the first day I have struggled in the heat. It feels so hot and humid and everything aches from Pilates yesterday.
Hoping for better days from tomorrow.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 27-Jun-26 22:17:53

Ooh that’s a thought Charleygirl5! I probably could. There are some chairs dotted around the place….

England have just kicked off I believe. I hope they do well. I shall find out in the morning. 💤 Night dear Kitcheners.

Redcar Sat 27-Jun-26 22:58:48

Still hot here in Essex, but down to 22 outside now. A lot warmer indoors. When I went to bed last night, there was a lot of lightning and some thunder a long way away. I think it rumbled on all night, with showers. A sunny morning but grey and showery this afternoon.
DD1 and her DH came over (plus dog) and dd2 and family also called in, so a houseful this morning. The 3 year old played on the slide for a while. The slide is 10years old and is showing its age. She’ll be too big for it soon then it can go!
Didn’t do much after they’d all gone. I’ll be glad when it cools down a bit more and I can start to do some gardening again. I have to be careful gardening but I like to do it. i hope you enjoyed Take That grannygravy. My DDs usually go to see them but haven’t booked this year.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Night night everyone, I’m not staying up to watch the football, but will no doubt check the situation if I can’t sleep!!

Charleygirl5 Sun 28-Jun-26 10:13:49

I watched the second goal then went to bed. A good job England wasn't playing Spain or they would have been slaughtered, Although they scored, I didn't think it was up to their standard. I have no idea when they are playing again. Poor old Scotland has been eliminated,

All I had to eat until early evening were two ice creams All I could manage was spag with a tomato sauce.

Today is much cooler, not 35C, more mid 20's which I can cope with.

Soon I will be searching for a hwb and moaning about the cold.

At least I am saving money not cooking. My dishwasher has taken a holiday so I must get it repaired, hopefully tomorrow.

cornergran Sun 28-Jun-26 10:52:44

My hot water bottle has done sterling service half filled with water and frozen Charley. Alongside me in bed I felt at least comfortable. It’s never off duty.

Much cooler here today, the coastal wind is back, windows open front and back. Wonderful!

Wishing you all a cool and comfortable Sunday.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 28-Jun-26 20:12:39

‘Evening All’

A much more pleasant day weather wise here, with less humidity. I went to the local garden centre with youngest daughter and L’il Miss, where she bought scented jasmine and honeysuckle. Home to find an NHS letter telling me that my mammogram done on Monday was normal.

My relief is palpable. Cancer now terrifies me. A learned response I suppose.

I’ve just gathered together the bits and bobs I want to take out to Málaga tomorrow afternoon. 3 new swimsuits bc I had to cull some when I was last over - they were past their best. Consequently I can’t fit them into my more spacious leather ‘airport’ handbag and had to get a grip bag out of the wardrobe for this trip. Then I cried. That cabin bag was used extensively for so many Christie admissions last year and I just couldn’t bring myself to get it down. 😢

I found another, with no memories.
Such is my life at present. I try not to press the bruise if I can help it, as it hurts.

brook2704 Sun 28-Jun-26 20:51:15

fgt ❤️, safe travels to Malaga tomorrow
I’ve had a really good day, been out all afternoon at a line dancing social event in a local hotel, it was really good with live music, dancing and a few drinks 🍹 I’m on the sofa now with my feet up, Fitbit shows 19,000 steps - that’ll do me for today 🤣
Hoping the extreme heat has eased a bit and is more bearable, take care all especially friends in the quiet corner

GrannyGravy13 Sun 28-Jun-26 21:09:22

I am having an early night, my busy but fabulous day yesterday has caught up with me.

Safe journey FGT2 I remember the first time I landed at Malaga airport after mum had died, I cried all the way to the train station.

You are doing so well 👍🏻
