It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

Actually if FIFA do change the kick off time (not definite yet) and don’t tell Mexico we’re bound to win. 🤣

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jul-26 20:44:13

Thank you brook and well all of you for your good wishes. They’ve meant a lot to me as I have been highly anxious. I think it’s a learned response at present - worrying about outcomes. x

What a lovely relaxing day for you fgt! Enjoy the next 2-3 days of the same routine. I like the new swimming costume.

Bingo at lunchtime was fun, I won the grand sum of £2.50! Today is my dementia friend’s DH’s birthday, so our little group of friends gave him cards and presents and a cake after the lunch. It’s actually my dementia friend’s birthday tomorrow, I’ll get some flowers and drop them in tomorrow with her card, but she won’t be aware of the date. I feel quite sad about the situation, but nothing I can do about it.

When the gardener came in April, he trimmed one of my rose bushes quite drastically with the hedge trimmer. It has now grown back to the size and shape it was before, it’s full of flowers and is leaning over towards the ground again. I’ve propped it up on an upturned garden chair, last year i propped it up on large upturned pots. It’s obviously got a mind of its own so I’ll go along with it!

Enjoy what’s left of the evening everyone, night night!

Harrigran it must be a nightmare chasing school places as the entire school will be doing the same.

fgt I have been doing online shopping for years so that heavy or awkward items were delivered to my door. Now I have a problem finding enough goods to make up the minimum amount for cheap delivery because unsurprising;ly I will not be paying £9.50.

You are lucky having supermarkets close to both flats.

Pleased to hear you are slowly returning to normal and really enjoying your break in Malaga.

England have been so lacklustre I am also certain this weekend will be their last game unless a miracle occurs such as Mexico withdrawing!

The T is slowly creeping up, I am not looking forward to next week. At least I am saving on energy, no heating and very little cooking.

Sorry, I didn't mean to write the 1st chapter of a book!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jul-26 01:32:39

Write on Charleygirl5 I’ve just enjoyed reading your post and I’m sure others will too! I think we all like it when posters add that ‘little bit extra’ occasionally as really it helps us get to ‘know’ one another more, don’t you?

I’ve just been woken at this ungodly hour bc of wild cheering in a few of the apartments here - Argentina (the holders think) are playing the underdogs Cape Verde (just looked it up!) and are being held to a 2-2 draw well into extra time!

Many of the Spanish here have family ties to Argentina!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jul-26 01:34:07

Ps it’s actually 2:30am here now!
(Good job I’m retired and can lie in, if need) 😁

A moving but uplifting celebration of dear Soop - a very warm and loving appreciation of a unique lady whom we were so lucky to have had in our lives. 🌻

Usedtobeblonde Sat 04-Jul-26 14:24:35

Oh goodness, I have been so busy here with gardeners and having my block paving drive cleaned that I forgot all about it.
However I have the link and believe it is available for a short time yet.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jul-26 18:02:37

Our dear friend was loved by so many and missed greatly by us all in what will always be soops kitchen

Just in from my daughter’s celebrations, still going on, lovely day sat outside, 27 and warm.
MrJ has just dug some potatoes for dinner, quiche and salad, it’ll be easy meals as the temperature goes up this week.
I hope you got back to sleep FGT and have had a gentle day.
I’ll watch the memorial tomorrow, football on here now.
Have a pleasant evening all.
Her cat Chino, and she plays a lot of netball.

I will watch another time I’m emotional these days as it is.

These were the gardens at 7pm this evening. All Spanish, enjoying the warm evening sun chatting to their neighbours with their children in the pools. I was the only Brit there for the 3 hours I was down. Many smiles and waves to me so that was nice.

Actually I think it’s quite lovely. Many of these tiny apartments are ideal starter homes for the locals. Cesar the gardener told me they sell in less than two weeks once up for sale and amazingly at twice what we paid for it 22 years ago.

Had we bought a caravan at the time in the UK instead then it would’ve been long gone, but this little place has not only brought our family and friends holiday joy over the years, it’s actually been something of an investment really. Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

I just felt a bit melancholy sat amongst so many people yet felt a tad lonely. I kept looking up at the windows of our apartment remembering the times himself would wave down to me as he was maybe bringing in the beach towels from the line at the balcony. Hey ho.

Charleygirl5 Sat 04-Jul-26 19:12:46

fgt if you aren't careful, irrespective of your thoughts, I will be moving in to which ever flat you have vacated, and when you are in England, I will be in Spain. Sounds good to me so no fear of break-ins.

I know how you feel surrounded by families but on your own, possibly reading a book. Enjoy the days there.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jul-26 20:02:14

Oh Charleygirl5 you did make me laugh thank you! 😁

brook2704 Sat 04-Jul-26 20:38:41

Aww what a gorgeous cake Jax, the celebrations sound great, so lovely when it’s good weather too
I’ve not watched Soops service yet, will do that soon ❤️
Good idea charleygirl!

I am just back from a lovely meal out with my GD.
Her BF who I really should refer to as her partner is 32 tomorrow, has been taken out by his 2 best friends for a meal after golf this afternoon so we have been out for a meal.
It was lovely to have her to myself, they will be moving out in a matter of a couple of weeks.
It shall miss her but young people should be on their own, making a life for themselves.
It is raining but still warm, I shall be off to bed soon.
I hope you all have had a good evening and have a good night.
I shall watch Soop’ s thanksgiving/celebration of life tomorrow.

Yiayia4 Sun 05-Jul-26 08:59:54

Good morning everyone.I also will watch Soops celebration of life later. Its still hard to believe she is not here with us.

Life goes on here after another lovely Greek holiday. We have some very bad days and it’s not easy to cope sometimes.Anyway I don’t post so much anymore best to keep things light on this lovely thread.
Have a good Sunday it’s going to be hot here.Lets hope England win.🏅

Septimia Sun 05-Jul-26 09:06:02

I've been away and am just catching up with everything.

Where can I find Soop's celebration of life, please?

Jaxjacky Sun 05-Jul-26 09:47:46

Post from Baggs 24th June at 18:42 Septimia.

Jaxjacky Sun 05-Jul-26 09:49:48

Yoa it’s good as always to hear from you and this kitchen is here for the multitude of life’s vagaries, bad as well as good or just average x

Septimia Sun 05-Jul-26 09:51:58

Thanks, Jaxjacky. I was tootling around Orkney in our little motorcaravan at the time, so missed that.

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Jul-26 10:47:36

fgt I am serious and Zoop;a has suggested what I could get for my house. I think it has been underestimated but we will see. brook thinks it a good idea so I will start the process.

Seriously I hope you are staying there next week because we will supposedly be hit with 34C from I think Tuesday or Wednesday. Horrendous. I am so pleased I no longer work and would have to struggle to central London at an early hour.

Enjoy today relaxing with good food and a glass or three of wine.

The Met Office forecasts thunderstorms here, Alexa disagrees and I trust Alexa. I have 3 Alexas so enough for both flats.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 05-Jul-26 19:04:47

Sun is finally out after a warm but cloudy day.

The 11yr old had a triumphant football tournament 🏆🥇

I have made some decisions today, acted on them and feel a great weight lifted from my shoulders. Hopefully I will sleep tonight.

Have opened a rose chicken wine (if you know, you know 👍)

Thinking of our friends in the quiet corner 🙋‍♀️

Usedtobeblonde Sun 05-Jul-26 19:16:24

I don’t usually go for a Rose but we went GeForce a meal to family friends about three weeks ago and I was persuaded to try “ chicken wine” I was quite impressed as it is on the dry side.
I have just had salmon, Cornish new potatoes and fresh peas.
I ordered some fresh dill from Sainsbury’s and made a sauce with sour cream, it was quite tasteless, the dill was so disappointing, has anyone else found this with fresh herbs?
I now have to decide whether or not to try and watch England, probably not but will I feel I have missed something if they win?

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Jul-26 19:17:35

I will watch the start of the match at 1am and if the England crew have upped their game I may stay until the end. Being retired I can have a lie in tomorrow.

I am enjoying the sunshine and cool breeze here in London. Mid next week I believe will be horrendously hot. In 5 months I will be moaning about the cost of heating my home!

Please look after yourselves,
