It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

fgt you are doing amazingly well. Still very early days

cornergran Thu 06-Aug-26 21:49:16

You’ve achieved so much fgt, little time has passed. Just be gentle with yourself, sometimes even brave people need tears x.

cornergran Fri 07-Aug-26 09:44:54

Good morning everyone. I’m distracting myself and trying not to be anxious. Dentist appointment in an hour, the beginning of a crown process with a dentist I’ve never met. Sounds odd for sure. We’ve hung on to NHS dental care and our very large practice has a similar system to the GP practice . Seeing different folk for different purposes. The kind and gentle woman who deals with checkups and fillings has to refer on for anything more complex. I’m not the most relaxed of patients and no matter how many times I tell myself after today I will know this one it’s not helping!

It’s also not helping that this afternoon we say goodbye to our current car and collect the replacement. I’m always anxious about these things, yes I know I’m daft. Everything is different in it. I know Mr C will rely in me to remember it all and of course I won’t. I have a notebook and write down what I can. Oh dear. I should be excited about this. No hope for me for sure.

Our elder son disappeared at 6am this morning wondering why I was awake. No different to his teenage years when I always woke when either of the offspring were heading out, or in come to that. He’s off with his daughters to a festival. Weather looks good. They’ll all enjoy it.

Best be off. Time to venture forth.

Have a good day everyone.

Best of luck today corner I know how you feel about the dentist, I'm at a new one and need two teeth out, still not made the appointment.
In eight hours it’ll be a memory and you’ll be acquainted with your new car, good luck.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 07-Aug-26 10:17:00

Cornergran I too am Dentist phobic, in spite of never having a bad experience, I still have all my own teeth but one which became loose, no decay , and my Dentist persuaded me should come out and it did with one pull.
I hope you come through it with no trauma at all.
I have a medical appointment today, I am having a heart monitor fitted, part of trying to find out why I developed an irregular heartbeat a few months ago.

My S took his 16 year old Peugeot for its MOT for 8am this morning and the garage have just rung to say it has passed with nothing needing doing, a huge relief, I hope you enjoy your new car and get used to it quickly.

brook2704 Fri 07-Aug-26 11:01:12

Hoping all goes well at the dentist today corner and with your new car later too - should be a nice easy drive if automatic

I’m just at the volunteering centre, it’s quiet as the medical students aren’t really back yet but I’m helping out with a few other things. I’ve half an hour until my next bit so a bit of waiting to do. Once finished here I’ll hop on the bus into town, I’m meeting a pal for coffee at the Hotel Chocolate cafe - I hope I’ll not get too tempted …

I hope the heart monitor isn’t uncomfortable uttb and doesn’t show anything unexpected - such a relief too when a car passes it’s mot and you don’t have the worry of extra expense

Hi Jax hope your hip is behaving today and Hi to the quiet corner too, take care all

GrannySomerset Fri 07-Aug-26 13:26:02

My support to FGT as I am still undone by unexpected things four years down the widowhood line. Like her I miss DH more and more, remembering him in his prime rather than his sad last few years; there is an empty space in my life which nothing will ever fill, and sometimes it feels unbearable. But tomorrow may well be a better day.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 07-Aug-26 14:40:19

I went to the medical centre for my monitor fitting, S dropped me off at 1:50 for 2pm appointment.
I said I would get a taxi back.
I was out done and dusted before 2.
S wasn’t answering his phone as he had gone to the station to buy train tickets so I called a taxi and was home by 2:20.
Brilliant service all round.

brook2704 Fri 07-Aug-26 17:23:57

That’s good uttb hope it all goes ok x

Nannytopsy Fri 07-Aug-26 17:54:15

How did it go Corner? I hope you are all sorted. I am booked for a 3 hour appointment when I get back from holiday and dreading it.

cornergran Fri 07-Aug-26 18:52:17

Thank you all for being so supportive. There’s an embarrassed corner here. The dentist was the easiest session I’ve ever had. A calm, quiet man who totally understood anxiety. He took time to make sure my dodgy neck was supported and I was comfortable. The injections didn’t hurt, what remains of the tooth was shaped without incident and rather than gunk to make an impression he used a probe with a camera built in. Wow. Sometimes technology progress is oh so helpful. Two weeks to the final fitting during which time I’ll try not to dislodge the temporary cover. The dentist thinks I will and will need it replacing. I’ll do my best to prove him wrong. 😊

The car? An explanation without technical terms of how the basics work and away we went. Whisper this, I’ve taken to it with less uncertainty than Mr C. It is smaller than our last car, not a bad thing, tomorrows challenge is how to fit the essentials in. I foresee some debate over what is essential 😂. We’ll go back for an explanation of the more complex things next week. The hybrid side of it will need some thinking about. I’m sure it will all seem as if we’ve had it forever a week hence.

So all that anxiety for nothing. A seriously unnecessary energy drain!

How has today been fgt? I hope a smoother one for you.

Hope that monitor will be comfortable utbb. When Mr C had one he fidgeted so much when asleep he pulled the leads off. Gave a very skewed outcome, apparently not unusual.

We’ve heard from the festival goers and had photographic evidence they arrived safely in Cornwall (several accidents the length of the M5 again today). The weather is set fair and I’m sure they’ll all enjoy it.

Oh well pots to water, a chilled glass on hand for later, I think I’ll sleep easier tonight .

Hope it’s a good evening for you all, no matter what.

Grandmabatty Fri 07-Aug-26 19:20:11

Im glad the dentist visit went well Corner and the car too. Utbb glad for you too.
Today I had an extra day of dgs2 and he was hard work. I suspect he is nervous about starting school next week but he was quite badly behaved at times. Then emotional at other times. Poor wee man is struggling with something. I have ordered some new lego for both boys for next week. Dinner was the bottom of the fridge one; bacon, tomatoes, tatties scone, egg and a fried pancake which had gone a bit hard. Not healthy in the slightest but tasty. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk

Redcar Fri 07-Aug-26 20:35:13

I’m pleased your dentist appointment went so well cornergran, and that the new car wasn’t as scary as you feared! Such a relief for you.

utbb I’m pleased the heart monitor appointment went well too and hope that the test doesn’t show up anything untoward.
fgt it’s early days yet and tbh you will probably (certainly?) always miss himself. Hopefully after a while the happy memories will overtake the sadness of the memory of his illness. In the meantime look after yourself and go with the flow.

grandmabatty a shame that your dgs2 is struggling at the moment. School is a big step up isn’t it?
Another heatwave ahead for us in the south east- oh joy! We should be getting used to it by now but some days are still a struggle!

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks!

Jaxjacky Fri 07-Aug-26 20:48:22

All done corner, but if you’re like me, it could happen again, no logic 🙂
Hip not too bad today thanks brook Voltarol applied.
Pub was busy outside, we stayed indoors, caught up with a friend who works for about 6 months, then goes travelling, Sri Lanka next.
MrJ just watered the tomatoes and courgette plant, an odd shaped one today.
It was chilly last night, quilted pulled over in the early hours, her as Redcar said, boiling again over the next week.
GrannySomerset and FGT x

GrannyGravy13 Fri 07-Aug-26 21:57:25

Been an odd day for me, felt off then realised I was probably dehydrated from being out all day yesterday.

Have drank so much water, I will be visiting the loo multiple times tonight.

Night night 🙋‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 07-Aug-26 22:56:29

A very quick hello and good night from me.
Just to say the Ai Wei wei exhibition was beyond amazing and it’s been wonderful to spend the afternoon and evening with our Yorkshire Lass and husband.

We’ve enjoyed a delicious Lebanese meal
and drinks (BYO)

They are in the bedroom now, tired especially after their drive over with a major incident on the motorway.

I’ve had a marvellous day I’m sure I will sleep well tonight
A happy mum -
Most of you know that grateful feeling I’m sure

Here’s a pic I took of them at the exhibition. The war heads in the background are life size made from LEGO -
In black white and grey pieces - they took 11 months put together by a cohort of volunteers.

Hello kitcheners. I don’t pop in much these days but just wanted to remember our dear Soop today as it would have been her birthday. She was the kindest, loveliest friend even though we never actually met, and is much missed by so many. RIP Soop 💐🐈‍⬛

Grandmabatty Sat 08-Aug-26 06:39:30

Well said Bellasnana. RIP Soop.

Charleygirl5 Sat 08-Aug-26 08:36:03

corner you have set my birdbrain thinking I shouild visit the dentist. My teeth are my own but I have a feeling he may have different ideas.

Also, if your new car is smaller, in theory the insurance should be less but age plays a part. I have no idea how a hybrid works so maybe I should stay on the bus.

I am definitely acclimatised having closed the door yesterday and the T was 25C. Duvet at night.

fgt and Grannysomerset take care of yourselves.

Jaxjacky Sat 08-Aug-26 09:01:37

soop 🥂.

Septimia Sat 08-Aug-26 09:08:35

It'll be a hard day for Mr Soop, so remembering him as well on Soop's birthday.

Kind thoughts to all those missing loved ones.

Yiayia4 Sat 08-Aug-26 09:20:34

Happy heavenly birthday dear Soop we all miss you.

A quiet week for us DH had his scans on Sunday we will now wait a few weeks for results. He’s not in too much pain and manages to get out and about on good days.
I got through my cardio stress test (just about) IV with a drug to to speed my heart while being hooked up to echocardiogram and riding a stationary bike great fun not! having severe arthritis did not help but I completed it.
Sorry that’s my moans for today.
(Nannytopsy) very sorry to hear of your brother 🌹

Hope the hip is improving Jax

The grounds here are so dry Spiros comes in covered in dust having a lot of white fur he looks a very dirty cat.
We have the family here tomorrow. Will definitely be a BBQ it will be 31°
Enjoy your weekend all.x
