A place you know you won’t visit now but would have liked to

I would have loved to go to the East and West coasts of the USA - Hollywood, Boston - all so different in character. Also Canada looks amazing. Travel is so expensive now so it's doubtful I'll be able to go.

When and if I get too old and infirm to travel any distance, I’m going to get a virtual reality headset and subscribe to whatever is needed to travel the world from my armchair!

I'm with SpinDriftCoastal. I have visited several parts of the USA, and this area was on my wishlist. However, the double whammy of COVID, followed by the election of Mr Trump has taken me past the age that this seems feasible.

I have always wanted to visit Jerusalem, with the current situation in the Middle East cannot see that happening any time soon.

The Greek Islands. I had the chance to go [Mykonos, where a friends family was from] in the 80's but money was short and I was bringing up 2 sons. No childcare.

Love all the blue sea and blue and white buildings. I think most islands are more commercial now than it was then though.

I did get to Cyprus though in the 90's. Enjoyed it but not outstanding.

Dislike airports/getting to the airports/travel in general/silly flight times both ways/documentation/delays etc. Staying in this country now.

Like GrannyGravy, I would have liked to visit the Holy Land. Not likely now, but hoping and praying that peace will come to that troubled region.

I'm glad that DH and I travelled a bit in our retirement, before his health and mobility deteriorated. On our last cruise in 2019 we were due to visit Santorini which we both longed to see, but unfortunately the itinerary was changed due to '"operational difficulties". We were so disappointed.

I, too, dislike the whole airport experience now. My sisters and I enjoy shorter European breaks, long haul days are over!

Australia - the only continent I haven't visited and I have an Australian son-in-law who would have liked to show us round but health issues got in the way.

North East Canada.

Australia is wonderful and so many different climates and scenery. I am heavily biased, though! 🦘🇦🇺

I used to have a yen for Iceland, but no longer.

As well as living overseas for years, Dh and I have done a great deal of travelling all over, and it sounds really old and boring now, but I no longer have a yen for anywhere. At least part of the reason is an increasing loathing of airports, planes and particularly jet lag, though I would still fly across the pond to visit a sister in Cape Cod.

My husband used to work all over the world but became increasing irritated by airports. Now he doesn't want to go anywhere outside the UK which is disappointing for me.

The Antarctic! We are past going to South America and getting on ships, too far for us now but I would have loved to see all the ice and wildlife and that other world we know nothing about.
There are other places,too. I have never been to Canada, I would love to see a wild bear. Where would you like to go ?

Western Canasa is amazing. From Vancouver Island to the Rockies at Jasper and Banff.

When I was a very small child I remember the wireless being on as my mother and grandmother got on with the housework - a much more laborious thing in those days. I remember even then being enchanted by the music of Edmundo Ross and his orchestra. Music from Latin America. Although I have travelled a bit, I never got to my dream destination, Argentina, to see the tango being danced and hear the music in its homeland. I don't imagine that I will now either. But I soak up anything to do with it on television and I still practise my Spanish, which I learned .... just in case.

Japan and India are two countries I would love to see. But I've travelled a lot so can't grumble.

Machu Picchu, Antarctica, Jerusalem/Bethlehem, Moscow.
Had a trip to Jerusalem booked but had to cancel because of even more unrest a few years ago.
Planned on Antarctica as our next trip but DH too ill, don't think I'm bendy enough anymore to get on and off those dinghy type boats so will have to give that a miss.
Did get as far as St Petersburg but never reached Moscow.
I've been very lucky and travelled to a huge number pf places so don't feel I'm missing too much.

Can't be 100% certain but think a trip to Syria is off the cards.

Uzbekistan and Georgia.

Done lots of travelling but now stick to W Europe. Can't really complain.

I should have gone to Cape Town when I was more physically able .My mother was born there and I have cousins and a very old aunt whom I would love to see again and the spectacular scenery. After retirement DH wouldn’t fly so all our holidays were driving in Europe which I loved . I was planning it after DH died, but Covid struck, then I needed a hip replacement, now need another and at 76 think I have missed the boat!
Love watching all the travel and wildlife programmes on TV though , I think armchair travel is the way to go for me now but some regrets.

I went to Iceland a couple of years ago and had a wonderful and peaceful trip. The flight is about four hours, its easy to walk round the centre and everyone speaks English.

I would have loved to have gone to Japan. I have always been fascinated by the traditional existing alongside the ultra modern that seems to be the hallmark of Japan. Also the people seem so polite and civilized. Sadly, age and personal circumstances make it impossible now. Maybe in the next life...

Rio de Janeiro!

I have always wanted to ride the horses and sleep under the stars in Argentina. Maybe it’s a possibility next year if I can still get up onto a horse.
Travelling the silk route through the Stans has been a dream of mine for many years. Now that I can afford to do the trip I’m finally planning to go next spring.

South Africa and Israel. Every time I tried to go to Israel the area was too politically unpredictable to go. As a practising Christian I would have loved to have seen all the biblical sites . Don’t think it will ever happen now.

There are still several European countries I think I will manage to get to hopefully in the next few years.

Like you MissChateline, still hope to visit Argentina, plus Chile, and the Stans, but not on horseback!
Had to cancel Costa Rica earlier this year, but hopefully next year.
However, I was planning a trip to Russia - St Petersburg, Moscow & the trans- Siberian express just before covid. Now, that's impossible to contemplate.
Also, some parts of US - Grand Canyon, Yosemite, New Orleans - don't think I'll ever travel there now.

I have been to Israel in the mid '80s and went all over the country, it's quite small, including frequent visits to Jerusalem. I'm glad I did it then, I wouldn't want to go now. We wanted to go to Egypt from there, but were told we couldn't go back into Israel if we did, so we didn't. If the world were a different place there are whole swathes of the Middle East I would love to have seen, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.

I had relatives who lived in Tehran pre revolution, a bit like Paris back then I'm told. My father, during the war was in Libya and Algeria and parts of those are interesting, Morocco as well. I wouldn't be too bothered about seeing more of the Far East, other than Japan. I spent a week in Singapore visiting Malaysia on the way back from Australia. Since watching Race Across the world, "the Stans" look really interesting, I'd add those to my list of places I'd like to go to, but won't now.

I've done a lot of the US, both east and west coasts and Canada, didn't go to the French part though I would still like to do that. South America and Mexico have been my favourite long haul destinations, I loved Buenos Aires and the Iguazu Falls, less so Rio. I'd love to see more of that continent though. New Zealand was on our list, I feel daunted by how far it is, it took may ages to get over the flight to Australia and I was years younger then. I love going to new places, but of late I hate flying. My last flight was to Jersey 31 mins from Gatwick, Yay! I can just about deal with that
