Top shops. Shop didn't have an actual name it was in a small row of purpose built shops on the top of our small housing estate. Top shops differentiated those shops from a bigger row of shops about a 20 minute walk away.
The corner shop. It was on a corner. DH says his was called Uptills evidently it was up the hill and he was often asked to go up t’ill for stuff, even 😱 cigarettes!
Can’t remember what it was called but I remember going there and getting cigarettes for my Dad . You could get just 5 at a time then. Senior Service, the ones he used in the Air Force. No age limits, I would have been about 7. It wasn’t very big, sold lollies in jars for a penny each and sherbet bags with licorice sticks.
We didn’t have a shop close by. The CoOp mobile shop would visit our village pub once a week. I can picture the van now and can remember that the driver was called Jim.
