I’ve heard it all now. An online jewellery auction described a piece of gold jewellery as having ‘ nine carrots’. Made me laugh.

My Mum had subtitles on for Wimbledon.
It said there was booze around the court (boos)

Probably the dreaded A.I. mis-transcribing. I’ve seen quite a bit of that on FB clips.

In one of the James Herriot books about his veterinary practice in the Yorkshire Dales, James recounts a message left for him by the practice secretary. Apparently a farmer had called about Smiling Harry Syphilis. (Turned out, when James called the farmer back, he had meant swine erysipelas. This is a skin infection that affects pigs.)

I was once sitting next to a police constable, giving a slightly embarrassed statement about underwear being stolen from our garden clothesline in Oxford.
I watched him as several times he wrote 'nickers' for knickers.
- and managed not to giggle!

My pet hate is spelling mistakes is cafes etc offering paninis on their menus. It is panini only in Italian. The singular is panino.

We saw "Stupid Eggs" in Spain (stuffed), also "Boiled Prams"& "Spicy Pork with Mice" in a Thai restaurant which was prawns and rice. I often see "discusting" instead of "disgusting on SM. Punchers instead of punctures.

Is it only in English that we can get these hilarious misspellings?!

@#£%%&

In German, I can't think of any. Spelling mistakes are quite common, though, and they drive us mad. Even the local paper is not immune. It's even worse when the mistake is in the headline!

DH being a retired Latin teacher and thus by definition a pedant, despairs at the decline of language awareness.

Our town council offers a varied programme of activities for pensioners. One annual event that we take part in is a "rally" to find things around town, usually historical inscriptions, carved door lintels, architraves, sculptures, etc. It's a lovely idea to get you out and about and to look more closely at things you walk or drive by every day without otherwise noticing them. However, the pamphlet is always littered with misspellings. Once, it was so bad I rang the lady responsible to point it out.

Her reply: "It doesn't really matter, does it?"

Since then, though, I notice that they have reduced the written part and stuck to just printing the photos. (A small victory for us boomers who did enjoy a better and more rounded education.) Now - how to tackle the folks at the newspaper....?

My friend's mum asked him to put a dildo rail up in her living room and told him her friend had just had a detached rectum!

Best wrong pronunciation was my friend's mum telling us she'd just watched the
Grand Pricks dancing championships and couldn't understand why two 13yr old girls couldn't stop laughing. We didn't tell her lol.

As a young scientist starting out in Pathology, I took dictation from the consultant describing a histology specimen. I wrote 'skinny lips' instead of 'skin ellipse'. Apparently this was a common error and became almost an initiation process for newbies.

People sending elderly parent for rest bite.

I often saw this on a forum for carers of people with dementia, which was a lifeline for me at the time.
But even a fully paid up grumpy old pedant like me couldn’t get too worked up about it. The poor things were desperate for a ‘bite’ of ‘rest’.

Lots of posts about the trouble UK is having with its boarders.

I’ve seen flower ‘boarders’ more than once in estate agents’ blurbs, along with the usual shower cubicals.

When I was a young typist in the office of a dairy company I had to type up an advert to go to the printers for a thousand leaflets to be printed. It was for Cream by Post. But I typed
Dream by Post. Luckily someone noticed before the leaflets were printed.
