a note of caution if you use mouth wash

My dentist said don't use it. Not sure why. She said it's better, if you use good quality sensitive toothpaste, spit out, wash mouth, rub a bit of toothpaste back in.

Presumably if you need mouthwash for medical reasons, there will be a prescribed brand?

You should not rinse at all after brushing your teeth as it washes away any benefit from the toothpaste. I can see that rubbing a bit back on would be a good idea.
As for ‘rinsing then spitting’ into the toilet bowl?
What a strange idea! Presumably it has water in it and is cleaned regularly with a good toilet cleaner?
And if you must spit into it then surely a quick flush would deal with it. Toilet bowls “see” a lot worse!

Why not cut out the spitting and keep the toothpaste that is already on your teeth 🤷‍♀️

I do unless there are bits of vegetables or nuts and so on in it that I really have to spit put and won't budge witout a rinse..

Use a water flosser before brushing. It gets rid of all the bits of granola, seeds of blueberries, raspberries etc in my breakfast.
Then brush with toothpaste but don’t rinse. I don’t use mouthwash now.

I don’t know about the loo - I used to spit it down the sink - but Corsodyl stained my teeth!

I do this too, but don’t use mouthwash until needed to wash out those annoying bits which seem to get stuck.

I also read you should either rub a little toothpaste back in or simply not rinse with water

They're really good but it took some practice not to flood the bathroom when using it!

My dentist said to use Corsodyl antiseptic mouthwash or warm salted water for a few days after I had a tooth extracted. Otherwise both he and the hygienist said not to use mouthwash. Looking at the instructions on Corsodyl it says not to use it for more than a couple of weeks.

My dentist says a water flosser is.no substitute for flossing with thread I use both and it's true, you still get bits out with floss even after the water treatment. I still like to use it as it massages the gums and just feels nice.

I have never used a mouthwash, although I sometimes put a drop in the water flosser.

There have been several threads on this subject sometimes called mouth irrigation or dental irrigation.

Well, I cannot use Corsodyl because I am allergic to it. I also do not use a fluoride toothpaste because of some of the ingredients. used in main stream toothpastes, but after cleaning I use a non-alcoholic mouthwash, which I spit into the sink and wash down with the remains of the water in my toothmug. I have been doing this for about 30 years without harm.

I have tried the leaving the tooth paste in my mouth as recommended by dentists. It left me gagging with my mouth feeling as if I was till recovering from a bad hangover.

Toothpaste has fluoride in it and I wouldn’t be leaving it in my mouth . Our water is fluoridated and that is enough, don’t want an overdose ! I don’t use mouthwash but I use dental floss after brushing with an electric toothbrush .

It was TMI and a bit gross.

I was told to use corsodyl by the hygienist but I didn’t know to use it for a short time. Feel very stupid as I now have brown teeth

Corsodyl is known for staining the teeth, which is why you are usually advised not to use it over along period.

Just realised that it’s Corsodyl toothpaste in the current toothpaste ad featuring the woman in the mirror. I’ve been seeing it for ages without noticing what it was advertising.

Why would you spit mouth wash into the toilet ? Just seems a strange thing to do.
