This is the foolish British couple who, despite strong advice to the contrary, insisted on visiting Iran during their motorcycle journey from Europe to Australia.
Their family apparently pleaded with them to not include Iran, and advice from the government is of course that Iran is not a safe country to visit.
Despite all that, they thought they knew best, and have been imprisoned on espionage charges.

When the Foremans went to Iran it was before the war and it was possible although against FO advice.

According to the BBC, they were given visas, had a tour guide and an approved itinerary.

I know people who have gone out to other countries as aid workers and been captured by rebels, on organised expeditions and run into trouble in different ways. This couple ignored advice but their punishment far exceeds any 'crime' they may or may not have committed.

No matter how foolish these people were they do not deserve this ! Tuliptree were you born unsympathetic or did it take practice!?
Silvershadow is corrrct beyond the pale indeed. Tuliptree you appall me . What a horrid and despicable thing to 'say'
Your comments have made me feel sick, although I understand that how I feel is beyond your ability to understand .

Over the top post. These people were arrogant, stupid, and selfish. They were warned and chose to ignore it. Also I read that they could have endangered the Iranians that helped them.

I have no sympathy for them and judging from what I have read neither do alot of others. To be frank alot of the public do not care. I did not know they had been on hunger strike. Far too much is going on now. Nazanin ZR was different and I fully supported her release.

Referring to someone as a Bitch however it was written is disgraceful and that person loses the moral high ground. I don't think Tuliptree is spiteful she has a opinion that's all. I have read threads that Tuliptree has posted on and don't always agree with her but I would disagree without being personal.

"Nazanin ZR was different and I fully supported her release."
Yes, me too.

With tensions high in that area, I can't see their release happening at the moment.

I disagree with tuliptree very frequently as I am sure she disagrees with me grin She was not spiteful on this thread, having a different view point doesn't make someone spiteful or whatever other insults people want to throw out.

They are a very silly couple who are just making things worse for themselves. Unfortunately the Iranians won't care one jot about the hunger strike but they will care about the media leak which is why extra was added to the man's sentence.
They have brought this upon themselves but having said that I certainly don't wish them any harm and hope for the best for them.

Tuliptree

I don’t feel the slightest bit sorry for them They are utterly stupid and selfish and clearly do not love their children and other family members I really don’t care one jot about what happens to them but feel for those who love them

Who’s being nasty now!
They have just been incredibly naive & daft to think they would be safe in a country like Iran 🇮🇷
I hope if they get the hell out that country to safety. Probably not likely though with the current situation.

Thank you Plevey, I appreciate that. I feel sick to my stomach not just because of the horrendous predicament this couple are in but because of the attitude of some people on GN. Would they feel so vindictive if it were their loved ones incarcerated in Iran and suffering the barbaric regime there ? Do these people have the slightest idea of what is happening to this couple. If they do but dont care it beggets belief!
I can scarcely bear to think of what is happening to this couple- foolish, yes , stupid for ignoring government advice,
Yes!! We know that. I am wondering if Tuliptree and others with the same opinion are more concerned with voicing their righteous indignation than thinking seriously about what us happening to these people.
Have they no compassion !?

I haven’t got any loved ones who would be so stupid and selfish. I’m not thinking at all about the conditions they’re being kept in. It’s nothing to do with me and I have no responsibility at all for their predicament. It’s nothing to do with righteous indignation either.

You've made your point Tuliptree....time and time again. You always have to have the last word ....with constant diatribe about your perfect morality, due process etc etc etc. it is more than tedious No idea what you think you are achieving. I'm not sure you know....that might be your saving grace.

Oh I see it’s the thread police is it? If posters keep posting posts mentioning me then I’ll carry on coming back whilst I can be bothered or is that not allowed? Btw due process was in another thread and god knows where the perfect morality bit comes from. Following FO advice is about being sensible not about being moral - well maybe a bit in that it’s not very moral to waste FO resources but there you go. If you don’t want me to post in this thread anymore than stop criticising me. As for what I’m achieving- well annoying you clearly 😂

Very patronising post. I certainly don't have righteous indignationand I agree with Tuliptree, plus other posters who have said they feel this couple have bought it on themselves , are we all the same.

I also know from written articles that alot of people feel the same. There is so much tragedy in the world where people are going through horrendous things that they did not bring on themselves. I have sympathy for them.

Plevey, you state about Tuliptree having to have the last word, are you not doing the same? I would not describe her posts as diatribes either. I don't agree all the time with Tuliptree, but she has the right to her opinion.

I don't want this arrogant couple to rot in jail, but they did not think that the Iranian people who helped them could have been in trouble in this harsh regime. I have to say this but alot of people outside of Gransnet feel the same.

There's a GoFundMe for Lindsay Foreman currently standing at £22K if anyone is daft enough to wants to back up their emotional support with financial support 😏

Plevey08 Tue 11-Aug-26 21:29:45

That's good to hear OldFrill. Brilliant £22K. Thank you for the update. 😊

What's FO Tuliptree....or should I use my imagination? They are a bit tedious acronyms! A bit like using a comma instead of a letter 🤣

If you can’t understand FO in the context of what I posted, that explains a lot. As for thinking using an acronym is equivalent to calling a poster a bitch, well again, that speaks volumes

ruthiek Tue 11-Aug-26 22:01:53

Falling star perhaps we should be more like other countries . This couple were warned not to go into the country but they did and fell foul of their laws , so suffered the consequences .

Jenni - my guess is she knew and just wanted to use that point to be able to hopefully raise a cheap laugh at my being called a bitch.

Thank you JenniRen.

This expression was used, and yes not by you, sorry for the confusion, but the rest of your post was very personal and it felt like an attack. Disagree with Tuliptree by all means but no need for it to become personal. All our views are valid to us, and that's why we discuss.

^ Disagree with Tuliptree by all means but no need for it to become personal.^ would that be the same as when she replied to a post of mine as 'utter rubbish'? My opinion/view was utter rubbish in her eyes, not different to hers but absolutely 'utter rubbish'. Isn't that a bit personal and very dismissive?

Tuliptree Wed 12-Aug-26 06:18:01

I’ll accept that utter rubbish was harsh and I’m sorry but quite honestly to compare that to the vitriolic posts directed at me by some posters is really apples and pears . Are you also fine with the word bitch being used. I think the personal attacks on me on here are out of all proportion.and you thinking that they equate to the phrase ‘utter rubbish’ is simply not fair. Also calling a post utter rubbish or anything else is not the same as attacking a poster and you know that.

sunglow12 Wed 12-Aug-26 06:53:04

I agree with all the opinions here and Tulip Tree you are brave to say what you did and that is your opinion . Feel sorry for them but also think they are a pair of twits .

I fear that this couple were mistaken if they believed that a hunger strike would trouble the Iran authorities at all.
