I'm with a different supplier. So far there's been no communication from them regarding the solar eclipse.

I think it is to try to avoid firing up gas stations, which makes sense I think. Octopus is giving its customers an hours free electricity on Saturday in exchange for the effort.

I have received that message from Octopus, I use little electricity during that time anyway so have not taken the offer up.
When I have received the free hour or two during the winter I have found the amount saved is minimal, not looking a gift horse in the mouth or not trying to be green,just realistic.

I agree with Utbb the last time I saved I think 3p. I have agreed to saving tomorrow evening because I want the free hour's electricity on Sunday, Being greedy, two hours would be better because my washing machine takes more than an hour but the quick wash on my dishwasher is 29 minutes so that will run.

I always take up the Octopus offers, but tbh I think they’re a bit of a gimmick. When you read the small print, it’s only free electricity over and above what they calculate you’d already be using. Like UTBB the usual hour saving is hardly worth it and Charleygirl quotes a saving of 3p for the hour. In the Winter months, my only way to save a few coppers would be to sit in the dark with the tv off (or go out) which I’m not prepared to do.
I’ve been with Octopus for years, had a couple of major incidents, but resolved and I’ll be signing up again next month for another year. I just wish they’d add these odd hours together to make a more practical offer. Isn’t it British Gas who have/had a 4 hour free session on Sundays, which Tom Daley used to advertise.

I always opt in. Laundry is done in the mornings anyway at at the moment it's salad after salad dishwasher only half full.

No Octopus offer here either.

We don’t get an eclipse here - is it a solar eclipse or a moon one - I assume solar as you are talking about sunglasses? I looked at one once and I would say, don’t ,because my eyes suffered and I had macular holes a bit later on etc , whether as a result of this I don’t know .

I regularly get the usual opt in emails and have the app already, just not see anything on Wednesday yet.

During those hours I will be using next to no electricity anyway. no cooker, no hot water, no, at this time of year no lights on, no tv on, I will be outside watching eclipse, so no digital personal appliances on. Fridge freezer will be on, but that is all.

What is there left to turn off?

We’ll be having a bbq’d for 2, but won’t be outside for ages in the expected 31 degrees.

So am I 😊 I've been with them since I started livingbon my own and like them as a company. They kerp me informed, I have used their saving offers as they co.e up and will make goid use of my free hour on Sunday. My supplier to my holiday home in Spain, give points every month for low consumption, using online bills instead of paper etc and I usually earn enough to get €5 discount off each monthly bill. Also the government there have put a cap on the charges and they are lower than UK. But as I said Im very happy with Octopus and also with my wifi supplier, Plusnet, who have been cheaper and much easier to deal with, if needed, than BT! Funny that they are a subsidiary but have much better customer service 😉

Britain’s National Energy System Operator (neso) has asked all energy firms for extra capacity this evening between 6 and 8pm. This is due to the eclipse reducing solar generation at peak usage time.

I always sign up and then whatever points I get I donate to their chosen Charity it is St Mungos at the moment (possibly/maybe)

We have solar panels and a home battery to store surplus electricity until we need it.
We are signed up with a company that will tap into our battery and export power to the grid when the system is under pressure. We are paid £1 per kWh exported, export events happen about once a week.
We will be exporting about 5kw over the two hours of the grid event tonight. We then top up the battery, charge our car and heat the water overnight at 9.5p per kWh. So we will be paid £5 for electricity which we can replace into the battery for less than 50p. Very happy with our system.
During the summer we have been exporting anything we can’t store or use at 12p per kWh. Our total energy bills have been negative figures since April and the surplus we are building in our account should cover the colder months when we need to use the gas heating.

I've not received any communication from Octopus about any problems with the eclipse.
