Miriam Margolyes (some may not like this)

Yesterday, I went to our local Theatre, and spent two wonderful hours listening and taking in this woman’s extremely well educated thoughts on our humanity and world, and her extremely interesting and full life.

Bad language aside, and it doesn’t offend me, it was in context and it was, in the main, highly amusing.

What struck me the most, aside from how very eloquent and beautifully spoken she is, was her compassion and kindness and concern for the whole of humanity.

It wasn’t the show I was expecting, it was well thought out, yet not stifling or stuffy.

She was accompanied by Ed Byrne (Southern Irish Comedian) and most of the second half was audience questions, which she answered openly and honestly and with humour.

The first half ended with a request from her, to join her singing “Daisy, Daisy”, a song which reminds her of her mother and the second half ended with her reciting a piece from Shakespeare’s Little Dorrit.

I liked her before, I absolutely understand she’s not popular with many, but she spoke from the heart, with humanity, in some ways with humility, and with concern about her country, no longer being the United Kingdom, but the Divided Britain.

She urged us all to be neighbourly, to live and love with kindness, compassion and justice.

Yes, she can be rude and completely “un-PC”, and has few filters, but she was a thoroughly charming lady and we had a couple of hours of fun and amusement and came away a free hardback book and lots of thoughts to mull over.

As we left the theatre, after a drink, she was being picked up in a pretty normal but large car. She waved merrily to to us all. thanks

Cossy you are incorrect.
Ireland is divided into North, South, East and West.
Ed is from Co. Dublin which is in the East.

I’m married to an Irishman. He comes from Rush, just outside Dublin.

He and his family always state that they are from Southern Ireland.

I completely understand what you’re saying about how the entire island of Ireland is geographically split.

I am surprised to hear that Miriam Margoyles was funny and entertaining.
In The Real Marigold Hotel, where celebs were being themselves, not acting, she was selfish and unpleasant. Since then, when I have seen her, it has only reinforced my negative view of her.
Her recent racism towards Andi Peters was unacceptable.

Ed Byrne is from Swords.
My husband's family are from Skerries.
Most live there
My husband states that he is from Skerries and that it is near Dublin and in the East of Ireland.
If asked if he is from the north or south of Ireland, he says he's from the East, just to make people aware.
The south would be Cork, Limerick and Waterford.

I listened to the Andi Peters debacle and yes Miriam was out of line which she later realised and apologised for. And Andi Peters has every right to feel badly about it. But I very much doubt there was an underlying prejudice there, Miriam’s lack of a filter is well known.
Though am by no means seeking to dismiss Peter’s feelings on the matter.
