Friends living in Yorkshire have reported it's mince pie season. Better start this year's taste testing!

Mince pies in Iceland today too.

I’d be like the side of a house if I started scoffing them in September!
It’s solely because of the tendency to sheer piggery* that I make my own, starting only on 1st December. Or the beginning of Advent, if that comes first.

*and not just my own, dh can almost inhale a batch of a dozen within one day.

M&S mince pies - sell by date end of October!

Samsara1 Tue 08-Sept-26 15:47:25

M and S in Stamford had many variation of mince pies, puddings, cakes and chocolate- didn't but any I am on a mission.

Ah, now this is very much my kind of thread😄
Last year I went a bit mad with mince pies, tried them from every store possible then hated the withdrawal symptoms I had in January when I couldn’t get them any more🤣
Sooooo, I must resist the siren call of them too early this year and will rely on the good judgement of posters to direct me to the best ones from October onwards.

We’re having Christmas cake when we have visitors later in the week. It has been in my freezer since January.

Ecclefechan tarts sound delicious.

Love Tesco’s ‘luxury’ hot cross buns. Eat them all year round. Yum toasted with butter and marmalade.

I think that you can find fruity buns all year, though the hot cross buns usually have more of a glaze. Mince pies are pretty common too - I love them both, though since I'm trying to lose weight I try to avoid them!

Halloween and Christmas alongside each other today in M&S. Crazy! Couldn’t decide what to buy!😄😄

Love mince pies but don't like shop bought, just too sweet for me.
I begin making them in batches early December

There is a Christmas thread on here 'Christmas' and I reported seeing mince pies in M and S last week. I've also had lots of Christmas emails from online stores.

I spotted them in Co-Op along with Christmas chocs and sweets. Are there actual folk who buy them and put them away for Christmas? If so I salute them, not my Tribe but how admirable.

I saw mince pies in Sainsburys last Saturday.

Nannan2 Wed 09-Sept-26 11:11:14

Yes already had some last wk from Morrisons(Lancashire)😁

MawsRosie Wed 09-Sept-26 11:25:44

Aren’t they just along from the Hot Cross Buns and chocolate eggs?
(Now that Halloween has been cleared away grin

I wonder what the "use by" or "best before" date is, on the mince pies currently in the shops.......

Presumably you are supposed to put them in the freezer, which wouldn't work for me as I would hear them shouting "Eat Me, Eat Me" everytime I went in the kitchen. They only take very few minutes to unfreeze (so I've been told wink )

Lovely. I will be buying the first ones I see in Sainsburys or Aldi when I return from my holiday, I love mince pies with squirty cream any time of the year. I'm always really sad to see them go off the shelves in the New Year.

Oreo Wed 09-Sept-26 17:02:56

In the microwave for 30 seconds and served with ice cream makes a quick delicious pud…you may need two each😊

I've done an asda online shop today, and went to amend it to include mince pies.
Alas! Only fancy Mr Kipling ones, when I don't like all that unnecessary stuff.
I'm mince pie less!
