RNLI fundraiser for 'Flying Farage' hovercraft jumps £5,000 after far-right thugs attack hero volunteers. The total now raised is £336,000.

This social media satirist lives close to me.

He fundraises, for great causes, but in a very “un-pc” politically motivated fashion.

He’s a “normal” dad with young children, and at least one of them is neuro-diversive.

He took to posting in our local area, on social media, after someone shouted at his autistic son in the park, and his popularity just grew and grew.

He uses “political satire”, for want of a better expression, to raise cash via gofundme for good cases.

As the headlines suggest, his latest fundraiser is for an another RNLI hovercraft type rescue boat.

Anyone else know of him?

On fb as ManBehavingDadly and Instagram as Man.Behaving.Dadly

His name is Simon Harris and I think he’s brilliant!

"There must be a way to donate to charity in these straitened times, but blowed if I know what it is..."

Dickens, have a look aat the Charities Aid Foundation. (Sorry, I have banged on about it before, so you may have had a look and perhaps it doesn't suit you).

You set up an account and pay anything from (I think, though it may have gone up now) £5 per month into your account. They collect the Gift Aid, if appropriate, and pay it into your account and take out an admin charge. Then you can give the money to any of their registered charities, which is a lot of them, including all the big ones and the Disasters Emergency Committee. You can donate anonymously, which means that you are not pestered to keep donating or donate ever more. You can also donate just once to a charity for a particular reason or keep a list of favourite charities.

The website is slow, but if you are patient, it works.

Thanks for that info Wheniwasyourage. I've heard of CAF, but never really looked into it.

I understand why the website is slow and clunky, but this will definitely put off people from donating.

We need a system like the Nordic Giro system which allowed effortless bank-to-bank transfers using basic reference numbers, bypassing faffy DD set-ups, or the sharing of sensitive info.

I know we have the 'JustGiving QR codes' and 'Tap-To-Donate' contactless terminals, but these lack a unified infrastructure (our banking system is fragmented across dozens of individual apps).

I think there's also some, understandable, donor-fatigue now people are having to tighten their belts sad.

I have a DD set up for all my charities. Children, RNLI and then I give as and when to individual causes. I find that best as I don’t have to remember every when ever.

Can somebody explain the word “attack” in this context because I can find no evidence of any RNLI volunteers being what I call “attacked”.

I speak as somebody who was born and raised yards from the sea and whose ancestors were lifeboat men.

Casdon Thu 10-Sept-26 07:57:03

Two reports from BBC News yesterday.mif you type RNLI abuse into your search engine, there are a number of reports.

I don’t think it’s a “physical” context, in the main, but attacks nevertheless they are.

I don’t feel that people who out their own lives on the line every time a co boat is launched and who spend hours being trained and who can be called upon at a moments notice, should be anything else other than applauded. All this bravery and hard work is pretty amazing, add to this that these people are “voluntary” and it becomes something very special indeed.

No one in public service, whether voluntary or their paid profession, should be subjected to any kind of harassment, verbal attacks and certainly not physical assaults.

People who behave this way, in my opinion, are pretty hard of thinking!

Casdon Thu 10-Sept-26 09:32:24

It does actually say in the report from the Chief Executive that there have been physical attacks, as well as online abuse and threats. I can’t think of a single excuse for anybody attacking people who are some of the bravest unsung heroes we have, who volunteer their lives to help others in danger. It’s unforgivable.

I follow Simon Harris - I share his views on Fuhrer Farage so will happily donate to his fundraiser - I definitely think the "outing" of RNLI volunteers by convicted criminal rabble-rouser Danny Thomas, Farage & Cohorts & Tommy (Ten Names) Robinson has backfired spectacularly.

Well done sane British Public - well done indeed!

I donated to this yesterday - it's a wonderful idea, and I hope that the RNLI donations increase hugely as a result of the publicity .!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Job well done by Simon Harris and all the donors. I give to RNLI and I think the thugs and morons who abuse volunteers should be prosecuted.

The migrant boat which arrived on Sunday was refused landing permission at Portsmouth and Southampton.

It eventually was brought to shore at Eastney Langstone Harbour.

I wonder why the harbour authorities denied it.

The boat refused landing, were the RNLI lifeboats which had picked up the migrants at sea. (NOT, the illegal mega-dinghy that had set off from France).

The reason given, was that there was no provision in place to handle the large number of migrants.

Read the excuses

RNLI volunteers have been doxed; their names and adresses posted online; with the accusation "Traitors".

That's intimidation; threat of retaliation at their home or on their family.

<https://www.security.gov.uk/services-resources/gsecs/security-education-and-awareness-centre-seac/campaigns/doxing/>

"Doxing as defined by the CPS involves the malicious publication of personal identifying information, such as home addresses, with the intent to harass, silence, or threaten individuals. This can form part of a broader spectrum of harmful online activities that can stem from misinformation and disinformation and lead to other forms of malicious communication."

TiggyW Thu 10-Sept-26 15:30:29

Illegal immigrants should be rescued then sent straight back to France or wherever they came from. If I were to do something illegal I’d be prosecuted. What’s the difference? Perhaps I should try going abroad without a passport.

albertina Thu 10-Sept-26 15:47:15

What sort of a country do we live in when brave volunteers are targeted by morons in balaclavas ?

Betony Thu 10-Sept-26 15:53:47

'I hope the RNLI has a boost in donations after the disgusting amount of abuse its volunteers have suffered (again) over recent days.'

Quite agree with what you say Wheniwasyourage. I think it is shameful that successive governments have been using the RNLI, as an arm of the emergency services for several years now. They are a charity, manned by volunteers! The fact they risk their lives every day, particularly for boat people, and for no pay is just taken for granted. Keeping them afloat (sorry for pun) with donations should change to them actually being paid
properly from government funds.

Momac55 Thu 10-Sept-26 16:31:06

I’m not commenting on the views of some people about the taxi service, I agree that the brave lifeboat men can’t let people drown but I think it is pretty clear to them when they are picking people up whether they are people/families etc in difficulty or young foreign men on dinghy’s , the issue is not they’re rescuing them it is the fact that once rescued they are then taxied to hotels rather than being detained and ultimately returned. It’s not the rnli at fault it is the government for not dealing with the issue of small boats carrying invaders to our country

westendgirl Thu 10-Sept-26 16:37:53

Hardly invaders, Momac55.

If there really have been physical attacks on lifeboat volunteers it would have made headline news.

Well over a year ago I posted on here about a friend of mine who volunteered for several years as ground crew getting the lifeboats ready for the next shout. A very important job.

She also raised a lot of money for them organising fundraising events. After a lot of thought she decided to resign because so many people were telling her that they had stopped donating because of this idea that it was a free taxi service for migrants. She said she could not, hand on heart, disagree with them. Other volunteers felt the same but I do not know if any others resigned.

Maremia Thu 10-Sept-26 18:06:46

Obviously not, as there are still plenty of heroic volunteers.

So it’s ok to attack them verbally then?

Casdon Thu 10-Sept-26 18:19:14

This report gives more detail.

Police investigations are ongoing, so unless an individual RNLI crew member comes forward, we will have to wait to see if there are any prosecutions.

You needn’t try to preach to me as my ancestors were sea farers, fishermen, lifeboat men and before that sea fencibles in the early 1800s. Family members are still working as Coastguards.

Menopauselbitch Thu 10-Sept-26 19:57:33

Attacks?? So why no arrests?
