Do you like a routine to your day or week, or are you someone who prefers to be spontaneous?

I like routine. I like to know how my week is going to shape up, with several fixed points, but still allowing some room for flexibility. I get more done this way, whereas if I have several consecutive days with nothing planned I tend to just waste time. Once something is planned I might struggle if somebody changes arrangements at short notice, especially if meal times are involved. I like to know the details of plans rather than going with the flow.
For example, next Saturday I am going to a wedding service ( not the reception) at 1 pm, which means leaving the house by 11.50, so either I eat some sort of brunch, or go hungry until after 2 pm, or 3 pm if I wait until I get home. This doesn’t really suit me but because I know in advance, I can plan for it, though I prefer my meals at my normal times.

The downside is that if it’s a nice day and I fancy going out somewhere, by the time I have got my head round the journey, the meal times, it might be too late!

I know we are all different! What works best for you? Why?

We have a few fixed points Wed and Friday golf then some U3A groups on different days and weeks. The rest is for us to play around with some R & R some visits, meals out all sorts. We ae 3 fixed meals a day sort though.

I like having a routine but I go rogue when it suits me. The routine helps me to plan meals, when we will be in, when we'll be out. But apart from hospital visits for DH very little is set in stone so if the sun shines and we fancy going somewhere we will.

I like a routine , more and more as DH is now disabled , I just find planing things or having certain things on certain days helps keep us focused more.

What's routine? I try but within a few days it all goes to pot and somehow I can't get back into the swing of it.

Cabbie you are describing my day-to-day perfectly.

I prefer routine .
I'm so easily distracted by things which I love doing.
I have a friend, who is always late and lives in total chaos .
She makes me feel tense.

I am new to the site today. Hmmmm routine. I like my own flexible routine with what I call my big rocks. But I really struggle when anyone else tries to get me to commit to their routine. For years at work, I had to keep to time. In my retirement I want a quieter more flexible life. That to me is pure freedom and luxury.

I need to have routine to book classes or I miss the slot plus friends are as busy as me so we need to plan meet ups!
I keep Fridays and Sundays totally free for spontaneous ideas! Works for me
