My grandmother’s name was Thirza never heard that name since..

I’ve seen that before, almost certainly in an old novel. I have a feeling that it’s Cornish but am probably wrong. Does anyone know?

Apparently Thirza is a Hebrew name, a variant of Tirzah.

On a teachers ‘pincushion’ could have been colloquial for on a teachers bottom for all I knew

Agree Oreo - though I had to look-up the meaning of gnomic smile
