The Daily Mail - the great divide

It seems there is a great divide between those who read it and those who don’t . It generates a lot of rather judgemental comments as though it is definitely ‘far right’ and appealing to the ignorant and inaccurate in their eyes. Is this fair ?
I have never clapped eyes on it,never read it but it sounds quite intriguing really. I can’t imagine getting that wound up about a newspaper. Is it like the Volvo drivers we used to rather look down on at one time ? Is that the paper Harry tried to sue?

You have a choice of newspapers and people who go on about the Tory press forget there are quite a lot of the alternatives. If you want a newspaper that's openly left wing, there's the Morning Star. On the centre left, there's The Guardian, i, Daily Mirror, and The Times seems to have moved more to the centre in recent years. Then if you want a totally apolitical paper, there's the Daily Star.

They are doing well to survive these days. We only have 2 and they struggle a bit apparently. There are a few local ones that are free but they are mostly ads for houses in the area and local tradies. Some local stuff about clubs and schools. Nothing political. The two main ones that you have to pay vast sums for are fairly middle ground ones, one tending right and one tending left but nothing drastic. I don’t buy them now except sometimes on a Saturday - cost is equivalent of £4.50, too much.

nanna8 They may be struggling because everyone's reading the Australia tab of the Daily Mail!

Don't normally get to our local supermarket at 07:00am in the morning, just as the staff were putting out the morning papers.Said to staff member how may Daily Mails do you have to sell, they said 31 and I then asked what's the next highest seller. They said the bright in the sky at 17.
