Good morning from a dry and mild Herefordshire.

I didn't get a chance yesterday to say how beautiful that card was made by hollysteers. I wish that I could draw like that.

Yesterday was a very settling day. Started off with a gentle yoga class then my cousin came round for lunch, a healthy homegrown salad with fish. In the evening I got so engrossed in reading that I forgot to watch Traitors. Will have to watch it on catch up today.

Today's plan is to practice a yoga flow at home before I set off to the local shops to pick up food for the weekend. DS and his partner are visiting tomorrow so I want to do some marinated chicken that they can grab from the fridge as and when.

Happy Friday to all.

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a still dark South Yorkshire. We can expect a wet day apparently. Yesterday I enjoyed a good long walk in the woods. It’s beginning to look and smell very autumnal, with lots of fallen chestnuts, and fungi appearing. I think the walk leader got rather frustrated with people stopping to pick up chestnuts, and slowing the group down. It’s the small things that make these walks enjoyable, and stop them being a route march. I had to wait for DD to come back from the hairdressers yesterday before we could have lunch, but spent a pleasant time chatting to one of her elderly neighbours who is still a keen gardener. On the way home I called in on my niece to catch up with family news.

A short session at school this afternoon and then a general tidy up. I’ve neglected the house a bit this week. Hopefully DS will be here tomorrow.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from a dry Bristol. The weather seems to be back in relentlessly dry conditions. If rain there is, it’s very light and for a very short time.
I always feel very sleepy after my T’ai chi class, and had a nap after lunch. I woke up thinking I’d slept for about 90 minutes but soon realised it was for some 20! It was very refreshing though.
In the afternoon, I planted out my pots. As usual, while planting out, I changed my mind about the mixture I had originally planned! The only thing that remained the same were the gaudy primulas underplanted with daffodils.
Bus to DD’s where unusually, everyone was around. Iris was describing what her body brace would be like, as her mum had been away on a course, and it had been her dad who’d taken her for the measuring. Apparently, 25 measurements were taken!
She was very excited by the appearance of the birthday present I brought her. Her 14th birthday is today. I had wrapped it in a piece of horsey fabric - the family doesn’t like using “wasteful” paper, so try to use fabric, which she wanted to keep. Not part of the plan, but Ok..
It was a very pleasant evening; no tantrums. Iris was pleased with her presents, one of which was two sample toothpaste tubes! She is wearing braces and needs to clean her teeth at school, so the 10ml tubes are very useful.
Today is my empty - I need to change the towels, do the laundry, finish the Spanish homework, make marmalade….
May your day be full of contentment. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning everyone from Lancashire where it's still dark and DH has left to get his bus into the office.

Yesterday's trip to Whalley Abbey was a big success. The weather was beautiful and the grounds were looking lovely and autumnal.
The little chap loved walking along the stone outlines of the old rooms, looking up the fireplaces up to the sky, splashing in the puddles in his wellies and mooing at the cows in the field across the river.
We had lunch in the cafe. The menu was very limited but the chef kindly made beans on toast specially for him, otherwise he could have shared my baked potato.
The only potential problem was a lack of changing space so I might have ended up changing his nappy on the back seat of the car, but fortunately that wasn't needed.

This morning we might go to the toddler group based in our church. We'll certainly have a walk out somewhere while we have this lovely weather to enjoy.

Wishing you all the best day possible and hoping that those not well are feeling at least a little better. 🌻

Good morning from Sheffield

I had an enjoyable day yesterday. We don’t pick the two youngest GC up anymore as my daughter has changed work days. As Thursday is our only weekday off it has been taken up by school pickups for 20 years. Our oldest GC is 22. To have a free afternoon is bliss. I kept looking at my watch to check the time for school and then realising I didn’t have to. I think we have done our bit now. Although they do all come for tea still. But it’s lovely to see them.

We had a wander around the Range and B and M. Does anyone else find it impossible to not buy something in these kind of shops?
The only commitment was to be back for the dishwasher repair man. The door would only open to 45 degrees. He has put a new door on. Thank goodness for the maintenance agreement.

A working morning for me, my friend for coffee at lunchtime and then a relaxed afternoon
Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from Malta where the high today is 27°C and the low 19°C. It’s a lot more comfortable than the sweaty weather we had in the past few months.

I watched the tennis yesterday morning then went back to bed as I’d had such a bad night.

My treasures arrived in the afternoon and I had them until 6pm while DD3 ran some errands. Much easier for her without the boys in tow and joy for me to have their company.

Now it’s cooler they are enjoying playing outside in the playhouse again.

I have my hair today then a quick trip to Eurospin and to the petrol station. Thank you for your kind comments on my nails.🤗

Friday again! I am really alarmed how fast the sands of time are slipping away. It scares me.😰

Glad to hear Iris enjoyed her birthday. 14 is a tricky age at the best of times but the poor lass has had to bear so much on top of the usual teenage problems.

Wishing you all a good day whatever you are doing.☀️

Glad you had a good evening, GrandMattie. I hadn't thought of using fabric as gift wrapping.
I always unwrap paper carefully and try to reuse if possible. Gift bags also do the rounds between family and friends. We all agreed years ago that was a good idea so noone is offended.

bella, I showed Iris the photo of your nails. “Wow”! Was what she said…

Good morning from s somerset, there was a little rain in the night but nothing much expected today. It will be nice in the house with sun streaming in

I did make that new ITS pattern Andorra and it is eminently suitable as the layering top it was designed to be. The fabric I used was grossly difficult to sew, far too thick, I almost gave up and binned it but it was a good test of the method and pattern. I will wear it and see how it goes. Soft on the outside but bobbly scratchy on the inside, I will make it again for next year but in a nice soft and suitable fabric

It was a frustrating morning for sewing and there was mess everywhere, I spent a long time cleaning up and tidying yesterday.

I went through my wardrobe again as it is october and I will carry on with the swapover today but it is not so easy while the weather is warm enough to wear a T shirt indoors and out. I have decided that the only things I will sew for a while are various jackets and vests with pre-quilted cottons, all in beautiful colours and patterns and who does not need colour right now

I have started the washing for today and using a colour catcher means I can cut down on the different washes. Other than that I do intend to have a quiet day with some walking outdoors and I have a lot of bias binding to make

I was saddened to hear about Monica yesterday, she has now joined the club that none of us wanted to be in

Good morning from Morecambe Bay. It sounds wet and windy out there although I haven’t actually looked. My oracle has forecast thunderstorms today. DS2 is off shift so is coming for a couple of days so I’ll have to work out how to entertain him if it’s too unpleasant out to go somewhere. Maybe the bird reserve at Leighton Moss. The bearded tits are active at the moment and are fun to watch as they gather grit so they can change their diet from insects to seeds. If it’s wet we can watch them on the live video in the cafe.
DH got the results of his MRI scan which don’t look good. The physio has referred him to a neurosurgeon. He says it’s marked urgent but could be some time…..
I’ve had a couple of trips into Cumbria to meet friends this week . Similar times and distances but the motorway was completely different on the two days. Wednesday I had the road virtually to myself both ways but yesterday it was very busy.
Wishing everyone well. Take care🌸

Good morning from a clear skied S E Essex.

The Imp has just woken up, so I will be making pancakes soon, he has requested them with strawberries and blueberries.

I a, giving the gym a miss this morning, DH has suggested going into Chelmsford. I need a new air fryer (the last one was thrown out mid summer) so we will have a look in Lakeland as well as a mooch round John Lewis (I have a gift voucher from friends from my birthday, hopefully o can find a nice sweater)

Think we will wander down to the Turkish restaurant for dinner tonight.

Have a good day 🙋‍♀️

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a still very dark morning with not a sign of the tree visible, here in North Yorkshire. I think the request for someone to knock me out may have to be made, as even with lovely clean and sweet smelling bedding I have still had a horrible night, little sleep, and now for some reason I cannot fathom,my right leg has decided to add extra aches and pains from the groin area. Dont think I have done anything particularly stupid to warrant it but there it is.

I had a somewhat busy but good day yesterday, as it was this day of the older person thing, with various groups and people having stalls and information at the library. consequently I managed to get the bedding washed and on the line, with the aid of the yellow peril, but had to leave rather a messy kitchen and various bits and pieces landed on the floor, which I couldnt bend down to retrieve. So , it had to be fingers crossed, that the cleaning fairies would arrive and work a bit of a miracle on the home front.

I set off in enough time to arrive at the beginning , with a thought that I might see enough in time to go across to the yoga with the womens group, which I had been sorry to miss. Another painful and exasperting trip in at the back way of the library, and once parked up I had to hobble to the lift and go down in it as it was all on the ground floor.

Well it was well set up with all the various groups and places of interest set out with their own stalls and all the information about their timings and what they did. It ranged from the Mens Shed - who do a get together and making things which help other groups. They showed a really posh hedgehog shelter that they make from old pallets and I collected their leaflet, for myself and to pass on to others, as could see that it was very well made and quite a posh version, which in the future I can see could be a very useful and appreciated present by many friends and families who are also very interested in wild life, so that was a tick. Then there was the U3A ,and several other different things, including "incredible edible" gardening group , who try and make small gardens in various places to both grow things like peas and raspberries and encourage people to come along and learn some good gardening tips. They also do a lot of work in the Secret garden. I was pleased to meet the lady who set this up, and explained that regretfully due to my back etc, I wouldnt be able to do much these days, but she said that they could really do with someone to be a sort of buddy / guide to beginners and so I plan to go along and see how things go. If it works out, it will be good to share some gardening knowledge with beginners and encourage them to grew things and pass on a few ideas. They also had the curling group there and I had a couple of goes enjoying being the knocker out of others rather than a good point scorer, but it was another chance to practice it sitting in a chair, There was also two men playing instruments and singing with a group, so all in all , it was a good morning and I never left to join the yoga. We had a group of young people there helping out and someone had made a very good cake to celebrate the years the library had been there to help groups etc. The librarian just had a quick moment to tell me that she had good news on the library front and would get in touch about that later, so all in all a very good time was had by all and a successful occasion.

I then beat a hasty retreat home to see if the cleners were still there , but they had worked their magic and left everywhere looking cleaner and tidier with the floors cleaned and all pens knives and bits and pieces removed. So had a hasty sandwich and then off again on the yp down the town to do a few things and to collapse in a heap in a quiet Cafe Nero, where I ended up with a good complaint , that it felt almost too warm near the window as the sun shone well and the promised rain was nowhere to be seen.

So after all that and a quiet simple meal, I just sat and tried to sort out some paperwork and get rid of out of date things, and was happy to watch Downton Abbey as a finale to a good day, but yet again I fell asleep in the chair, and missed half of the programme and woke up about 2.30am chilly and creaky, and of course by the time I got to bed was wide awake! Even the lovely sheets didnt lull me off to a good sleep.

So here I am trying to loosen up and then it isback to the library this morning for the proer bocca session at 10am, where I hope the curling stuff will be out and in use.I should be able to see the librarian and get up to date on any news she has on the ramp front, and how she felt that yesterday had gone from the libraries point of view.

I really do have to get on with trying to sort out some irritating hassles with various people this afternoon and look through my car details to check up on times due for MOT and tax etc. I have got rather slapdash about keeping up with my usual checking on such things and need to get back in charge of things. Then I also need to contact the eye people to learn more about the pros and cons of the procedures that the hospital talked about and work out what I need to do (wish that the answer was nothing!) It would have been good to have a decent nights sleep to help matters along but there we are , will just have to plod along.

Hope your trip today goes well Mick and that you hear about the MRI scan soon. Greyduster I am on the side of the conker and chesnut gatherers, The joy of a walk at this time is to look and see all the signs of autumn coming in and enjoy it all, rather than a route march to whereever. They might have to devise two different groups , the countryside enjoying lot and the steady paced walkers, GrandMattie , I smiled at your version of an "empty" day , sounds like some of mine. Hope you get chance to sit down for a little while in the middle of all that. Latedecember that looked a lovely trip out for you. Melanie I hope you manage to now keep those days free and give yourselves a break and enjoy them. Bellasnana I am with you in noticing how the world seems to be spinning faster and faster as another week rushes by!

Well talking of which there is now enough daylight to see the outline of the tree very still and calm at the moment, no sign of squirrel nutkin or the early morning pigeon visit. Time to get the coffee on, and sort out clean clothes to wear while the ironing mountain continues to reproach me for lack of effort. That will definitely have to figure in the next couple of days.
Enjoy what you can of today, and store up lovely memories of the autumn colours etc to have things to look back on for later. Wishing you all a positive day
