Good morning from Malta where it’s going to be sunny and 32°C.

Took myself for a drive to the shops yesterday and stopped for a coffee before coming home to watch a very disappointing tennis match.

The heat got to poor Jannik Sinner who was on the point of winning in three sets then felt very unwell but carried on only to lose in five sets. It was painful to watch.

The heat brought out the first cockroach of the year, another of DH’s jobs that I now have to deal with myself. I don’t like killing anything, it can’t help being a cockroach, but neither do I want my home infested so he had to go.

I have my hair at noon, no doubt I’ll find out when my hairdresser has to go for surgery. She’s so brave to keep working, but will obviously have to stop for a while.

Hope you all have a good day, best wishes to all.☀️

grandMattie Fri 29-May-26 05:40:31

Good morning from an overcast Bristol. It is a lot cooler and very tolerable.
It’s so sad about your hairdresser, bellas, life can be so unfair. I hope that your DH, MD, is starting to respond to treatment and that you are feeling a bit better.
Nothing much yesterday except that I didn’t go to DD’s last evening, going this evening to dinner. She was busy with work stuff - a PCC meeting , I believe.
A bit of a drama in the morning. As my front door doesn’t get the sun until the afternoon, I leave it propped open. I got an urgent “can you help” shout from a neighbour. I dropped everything and rushed out to find that a resident had fallen up into to little community bus and couldn’t get up. The driver was panicking big time, the lady who called me is tiny and rather frail, also panicking.
I don’t panic, managed to pick her up and sat her down in the bus. The driver then told us she couldn’t take this journey and had to go home.
I remembered a redundant wheelchair, fetched it, got her to go backwards into it, and wheeled her home. Once safely home, I left her to it. She refused to call anyone out, but I decided that the manager should be told, and probably visit her.
The t’ai chi class was mostly sitting down as everyone was flaking out in the heat; it was still relentlessly sunny and hot.
Today, no Spanish as it’s half term. I’ll bake things like flapjacks and fruit cake.
This weekend ends half term, so it’ll be busy for many. May they enjoy it and start again feeling refreshed.

Good morning from Sheffield
I’ve been awake since 2.30am
The husband has twisted his foot and needed painkillers . Why he can’t do this quietly I don’t know. He can’t find any, then needs full illumination to see the packet then my water bottle that I take to bed then needs to sleep on his back so loudly snoring.
I mean I’m sympathetic but there are limits 🙄
I am now up ready to clean the kitchen, goodness knows how I’ll feel later.
At least I’ll have a quiet evening as he is playing golf. His foot is going to miraculously heal itself by 5 o’clock
I do love him really
Take care everyone flowers

WhiteSwan63 Fri 29-May-26 06:11:12

Good morning from the East Coast we have another glorious day but with a cooling sea breeze.

I need to leave for my DDs in an hour as she has to leave for work at 7-30 dropping off DGD2 on the way at nursery. I’m bringing DGD1 back to ours for the day. She is going swimming with grandad later this morning and I’m going to meet them after at the club for lunch. She can chill and watch a movie this afternoon if she wants and we’ll go and pick her sister up from nursery ready for mummy coming home. DH is out with his friends tonight so I’ll have a prawn salad for tea and I’m going to watch Gone with the Wind which I bought on Prime.
I’m listening to it on audible and loving it. It’s hard to hear the language of the time in relation to the black slaves though and I cringe a lot but I’ve carried on with it and I’m glad I did. My DDs lovely husband is half Nigerian and I’ve chatted about it with her and my struggles with the language. I’m working my way through the classics on audible. I’m even considering War and Peace narrated by Thandie Newton the actress.

Hoping everyone has a lovely day with moments of joy🌼
Thoughts to those struggling with worries, stress and illness.💐

Good morning from a much too hot corner of La Sarthe! We have not slept well as a result.

Mick: I think you are one day behind with the date as it’s the 29th today. Thank you for starting this friendly thread each day.

What a good thing you were on hand, grandMattie and strong enough to help the poor lady! Well done!

It can’t have been much fun for you in the night, Melanie61, but it amused me to read your account, especially about the miraculous healing!

DH has just told me it will feel like 39 later. Yesterday evening we opted to eat indoors because the flies are such a nuisance. The price we pay for living near farmland.

Stay well and keep cool, if you can, everyone. 🦩💐☀️🥰🦩

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-May-26 06:29:35

Good morning everybody from Málaga where currently it is 21°C and will rise to 34°C today 😎 Lovely. I’ve just looked out at the Mediterranean as I put the kettle on for TiB and it looks a beautiful pale mint green with the sky above a soft pink wash. Adjacent on the horizon it looks very calming before the sun climbs higher in the sky.

I plan a ‘quiet one’ today with no socialising. I will toddle over the road for a delicious café con leche (under €2 unbelievable!) then nip into the supermarket with my trusty shopper on wheels - so handy for getting the heavy 5 litre bottles of water. I cannot believe the price out here for one of those either … 69 cents! 😁 Some things here in Spain are incredibly cheap.

So it’ll be gardens for me this afternoon time to choose a new novel, then pasta for my tea. Someone said I’m recharging my emotional batteries out here and after all the anxiety and sadness of last year that’s a very good description. I’m grateful I have this little place to be able to do this. No calls upon my time whatsoever. It’s a very holistic setting.

grandMattie Fri 29-May-26 06:36:13

I’m so pleased for you, FGT, that you are finding the quiet so soothing and healing. Just what you needed after the recent anxiety and sadness. Abrazos.

RosesandLilac Fri 29-May-26 06:45:40

Good morning, a lovely cool start here in south Glos, thank goodness it’s cooler!
I did smile at your post Melanie, they just don’t think, do they?
Yesterday evening we went to watch DGS1 at a cycling track cycling event near here, a very enjoyable few hours. I haven’t seen him at a competition before, he loves racing. The speeds that they get up to is scary! He’s only been cycling competitively for a few months, this was his second race.
it was really good to seeing them both, DS and DDIL both encourage the boys to do sports.
DGS1 does cycling and athletics ( he represents his school and Richmond Borough), DGS2 is a very good at swimming, he’s representing his swimming club and he’s also a fast runner.
I am immensely impressed and proud of both of them.
Today it’s housework, and much gratitude that the weather is more bearable.
Best wishes to all 🌹

brook2704 Fri 29-May-26 06:52:03

Good morning everyone from Pontresina in the Swiss mountains where it’s another gorgeous sunny day
Enjoy your day today fgt it sounds lovely. We could do with some of those prices here, it’s really expensive!
We arrived yesterday afternoon after an easy very scenic train journey from Arosa. We’re here until Monday so have a few days to explore. Today the plan is to get a cable car up the mountain, there’s supposed to be a cafe and a few walking trails at the top - will see!
Well done to both your DGSs roses it sounds like they’re very talented, well done to them both
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-May-26 06:52:42

Good morning it’s 18° here in S E Essex, we have showers forecast.

Off to the gym first thing, then who knows 🤷‍♀️

Sounds like Malaga is being kind to you FGT2 🌞

Thinking of Marudoll 🙋‍♀️

Susan56 Fri 29-May-26 06:53:33

Good morning from Shropshire. Its much cooler this morning.

Back to the surgery this morning for a blood test.

It is a lot cooler today thankfully. We are looking after DGD’s little dog and she has struggled with the heat. She is no bother but the heat has made it difficult dog sitting this time.

We will go to get bedding plants later then a relaxing afternoon. We have a busy time from Sunday so will make the most of the next couple of quiet days.

I’m glad that your time in Spain is healing for you FGT.It sounds just what you need.

I hope Marydoll and her DH had a better day yesterday and that things are moving in the right direction 🙏🏻

Thinking of our absent friends and all with worries and struggles.Wishing you all the best day possible🌷🦩

Gagagran Fri 29-May-26 06:58:03

Good Morning all from a thankfully much cooler central south coast. We even had a light shower early evening which cleared a bit of dust and pollen.

So glad you are enjoying your time in Malaga FGT. I think it was me who said "recharging your emotional batteries" which felt like the right description. Happy it resonated!

Yesterday DH got the car full of cardboard to the tip and also visited the store which had tried to charge a delivery charge even though the item was not delivered! He said the lady on the customer counter was really helpful and efficient and he got his refund with no problem. She told him that the online customer services are frequently failing to help customers and head them off to the store to sort things out.

I heard from a choir friend that the rehearsal on Wednesday evening was cut short when our MD felt dizzy and had blurred vision and the accompanist was also overcome by the extreme heat. I am so glad I didn't go!

Thoughts are of MD and her DH and all our GN friends with troubles, worries or struggles of any kind. May the day bring some ease and comfort to all.

Marzipan22 Fri 29-May-26 06:58:32

Good morning from Cornwall where it's a tiny bit less warm, phew. In fact it's looking overcast. Yesterday I did lots of shopping, buying new shoes which were badly needed but as my favourite independent shoe shop only had what I wanted in white I'm painting them teal and jade. Found some cooling, floppy patchwork trousers at the hippy market stall, patterned with toadstools and flowers. After that 480 decaff Cornish teabags for my Scouse son-in-law who I'll see next week, factor 40 suncream, a replacement watch battery and a mini deskfan completed the shopping list following which I rewarded myself with a pot of tea and cake in the shade at a riverside café.

I'm at a prayer meeting this morning and then, if the temperature permits, I'll take a bus somewhere for a jaunt as I've been confined to home for several days and fancy a change of scenery.

Apologise as to dare error ,

Gelisajams Fri 29-May-26 07:13:11

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy Morecambe Bay. Weather normality is returning thankfully.
Yesterday’s meet up with my friend was most enjoyable as was the lunch. We have a put a date in our diary for our next meet up so it doesn’t get too long. It was over eighteen months since we had seen each other. I got home to a very bare house as DH had moved as much as possible ready for the carpet fitters who are coming shortly. I’m surprised he found places to put everything. He even emptied the ‘little’ freezer into our main one and had squeezed it into the garage. You can’t usually move in the garage for his clutter.
We are intending to leave them to it and go out in the camper for the day. Walnut Island beckons.
Well done keeping a level head to sort out your neighbour Mattie
Thinking of all with problems and worries. flowersTake care. 🌸

Grandmabatty Fri 29-May-26 07:18:56

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 14° and very cloudy and windy. GrandMattie well done for not panicking. I hope your neighbour is ok after falling. Susan I hope the blood test goes ok. Marzipan it would never have occurred to me to paint shoes. What a good idea.
Yesterday I wanted to buy strawberry tarts for the nursery staff but there were none to be had, so chocolate éclairs and raspberry donuts it had to be. They were very much appreciated by the ladies. Then I did half an hour in the school library before heading home. I didn't do much the rest of the day but pottered in the house. Dd sent me photos in the evening of dgs1 ready to go to his school disco. He looked ridiculously grown up for a 7 year old. The Lynx era is fast approaching 😂
Today I have a quiet morning then I'm meeting my ballet buddy and another friend at the garden centre in the afternoon. Im looking forward to that.
Have a good day all.

baubles Fri 29-May-26 07:20:50

Good morning from slightly overcast South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday was pleasant, it was the middle child’s school sports day which was actually a circuit of various games involving beanbags, hoops, balls, and sacks. DGD enjoyed it very much. We had a lovely view over the water to the Bass Rock.

I’m doing a shift in the charity shop today, not my usual shift but they are struggling with a lack of volunteers just now.

Wishing everyone a good day, thoughts as always to those with troubles.

BlueSapphire Fri 29-May-26 07:24:53

Good morning everyone from a cooler overcast Northampton, but it will be a dry day, so I have just put a load.of washing in the machine. Trying to get things done as I prepare for my cataract surgery on Tuesday.

Went shopping yesterday morning to get a few things in, had coffee and cake in Costa, and really did nothing much for the rest of the day.

Planning on batch cooking a curry this morning using a very old recipe given to me by a Malaysian friend we met when we were living in Cyprus (40 years ago!). It is just.called 'Monica's Curry'.

Bellasnana I too hate cockroaches and have had to deal with them whenever we lived abroad, Singapore, Cyprus and Australia - in Australia we had to have the whole house fumigated every six months, which caused much upheaval and emptying of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, a real pain.

I need to find time to go and get a new pack of my usual eye.drops in case of irritated eyes next week. I may go early before rugby tomorrow and hop off the bus at Boots, a couple of stops before the stadium, then I'll just walk the 10/15 minutes to the ground.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Jaxjacky Fri 29-May-26 07:31:18

Morning from S Hants, cooler at 15, still sunny.
That shower Gagagran started just as family arrived for bbq, big fat rain as we sat down outside. We laughed and carried on, played UNO until food was ready, lovely few hours.
Solace for the soul FGT
It’s a miracle Melanie!
Sounds idyllic brook
Off to the local tonight, now decked out with World Cup bunting.
Have a pleasant day all

Redcar Fri 29-May-26 07:34:45

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Dry at the moment, showers are forecast for this morning. We had a shower yesterday evening after dark, just enough to make the road wet, but not much good otherwise.
I need to do some ironing this morning and I hope that DD2 will call in this morning too.

Goodness grandmattie, a dramatic start to yesterday! What a good thing you were able to help your neighbour.

fgt enjoy your quiet day today, recharging your batteries in such a lovely place.

marzipan a very successful shop for you yesterday. I hope you have a good bus journey this afternoon!

Hoping that those who are struggling today find some relief.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Gingster Fri 29-May-26 07:35:38

Good morning all and it’s overcast , warm with no breeze at all here in Essex. That lovely cooling air has now disappeared 😢.

Yesterday I took DH’s hearing aids to the audiologist at Specsavers. She said they seemed ok but any more problems she’ll send them off.
Of course now one of them has refused to charge again!
They only have Thursday appointments in our town. 😤.

I went to the station to catch my train, only to hear they had cancelled it. Another half hour wait until the next one .😤
Anyway I had a lovely few hours with my old school pals and was back home by 4.

Not sure if we’ll go to meet our Friday friends. Dh said he doesn’t want to but having had offers of lifts, I’ll try to encourage him. He’s really just happy at home.

Take care all 🌺

Greyduster Fri 29-May-26 07:39:30

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is cooler today - set only to be in the low twenties. It was hot walking yesterday, even in the woods and everyone was flagging.

I picked GS up on the way home and we set to putting new screening on the back fence. It was a difficult job as all the plants in the flower bed are now a decent size and we had to work around them. It was a heavy job. We did get it in place but it needs further work to secure it. That will be a job for another day. He then got the mower out and cut the lawn for me. We freshened up and went to the pub for tea. I offered him the pick of the menu. What did he have? Fish and chips🤷‍♀️!! Could have had those at home! He was a cheap date last night😂!

Today is a rest day. He will go home later as he is playing golf with his father and uncle. I don’t intend to do a lot after that. Everything hurts today! I have to get another quote for getting the guttering cleaned, and carry on researching cordless mowers🙄!

Have the best day you can, folks.

Greyduster Fri 29-May-26 07:45:25

They used to call the cockroaches in Singapore “the great leveller” as everyone suffered with them, from the lowest right up to the High Commissioner himself. They were everywhere and we hated them!

Grammaretto Fri 29-May-26 07:48:54

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's sunny.

I arrived home after a long hot journey by car, train and bus from the North of Scotland to find some of my seedlings had shriveled. 😕 But my yellow rose has flowered.

It was a very nice few days away staying with my friend. Peaceful and relaxing. I can see why she lives where she does. Picture is Dornoch beach with not a soul on it.

Back to work this morning and I must keep my house acceptable in case I get viewers this weekend.

One of the houses I liked has a closing date of noon today. I shall speak to the agent but it's probably not going to be possible to bid.

I hope that Marydoll is getting the support she needs with DH health.

Have the best day possible, everyone.
