Good morning from s somerset

Another slothful day is ahead for me, I have to get my hair cut first and will be home by 10. My measures did work yesterday and I managed to keep the living room 6 degrees lower than outside and to fulfill my part of the bargain I did nothing, apart from conserve my energy and hydrate myself

The upside is that I found a new contract for my phone, basic sim only, I went for 30GB as I only use a few GB. £16 pm and cheaper than my last contract

This extreme weather makes for a long day but so be it. 32 yesterday, 33 today and thankfully the forecast temperature for wednesday and thursday has dropped by a few degrees to 37, which is much better than 40

Just need to plod along, accept what is thrown at us and adapt as much as possible

Good morning from a bright Bristol, where it’s already rather warm.
Yesterday wasn’t unbearable until DS took me out. I turn bright pink in the face with white rings round the mouth and eyes: I hate it. We did have about 30 minutes of thunderstorm around 6pm which cleared the air wonderfully; I opened all the doors and windows to the Lee of the light breeze.
DS took me to B&Q for an unsuccessful replacement for the strip at the bottom of my shower screen. We also stopped at a garden centre where I purchased a Hydrangea paniculata rejoicing in the name of “pinky winky”; DS was appalled, I fell about laughing!😆
I’ve nearly finished my trousers; only the hem and elastic waist to put in. I’m going to make a skirt today with another of the fabrics. It is much heavier than it looks, is lovely to sew and barely needs ironing.
I agree with you , karma; there is no point revolting or grumbling if one can’t change a thing. Just keep bug..img on!
Keeps safe and cool, do as little as possible.

Good morning, the thunder, lightning and rain started at 2.50am and it’s still going ⛈️⛈️⛈️ it’s also not dropped below 18°

The Imp has slept through it, DH has also apart from waking up briefly when I have been jumpy

The road is like a river, my patio is imitating a paddling pool.

The 11 yr old has got his first full day at his senior school today, I hope he has been able to sleep (the yr 11’s left last week, so the new yr 7’s have two days at big school for orientation and getting to know their new form mates)

Wishing you all a good day 🙋‍♀️

Good morning . We had rain and a little thunder and lightning last evening. At the moment it is dry , dull and cool.
Just usual routine housework first thing for us today. Later this morning we will pick up DGS1 and take him to his fracture clinic appointment at the hospital. Not sure what this will entail but hopefully all will be well. . His mum is coping with shingles and feeling quite uncomfortable but luckily not too bad in herself.
Wishing all a good day especially those with worries or other troubles.

Good morning all
Yesterday was 17 here afternoon 22 with showers throughout. Washing eventually got dried.
More washing today Alexa tells me it will be 24 today.
Courgettes are doing well in the poly tunnel . I will be making soup from them and freezing.
Not going out today cleaning as usual.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning, a fresher feel at the moment after the epic thunderstorm here yesterday early evening. Very spectacular lightning and local flooding and trees down as a result.
It reminded me of the storm in the Dolomites when we went on a wonderful walking holiday 14 years ago.
So, besides walking the dogs very early there’s nothing here today apart from my phone consultation with the gastroenterologist.
Let’s see what he says….I’m expecting another ridiculous long wait for anything to happen.
Take care everyone, x
🌹

Gingster Tue 23-Jun-26 06:22:28

Yes GG the storm is still rumbling on. Goodness there were some loud thunder claps and the rain was torrential . 3 hours .
DS dropped the car off at 5.45 to run to the station over the road. I hope the trains are running ok.,. Dh seems to have slept through and no sounds from the dog.

Decided to get up and make a cuppa.

Today I have Bridge Club . It might be cancelled due to the heat, as our leader is a rather anxious lady and has the ‘vapours’ on a regular basis. We’ll see.

Take care all and stay cool 🍦🧊

Good morning from Malta where it is already 26°C rising to 36°C by mid-day.

I walked up to the village yesterday morning, rather regretted it as it was a lot hotter than I’d thought and there is little shade en route.

I did have a friendly encounter on the way as I got chatting to a lovely couple who I have often seen standing on their doorstep. Turns out they are brother and sister who have lived all their lives in the one house, although they have travelled a lot. We had a lovely chat which lifted my spirits.

Did my bit of shopping at the pharmacy (which was ice-cold) then went for a coffee where I also headed indoors for the a/c before walking home.

Didn’t do much for the rest of the day. karma is right, you have to adapt in the heat. It’s no use trying to carry on as normal.

Having had to deal with it for 45 years I just enjoy it.
When I first came over there was no a/c anywhere but we still coped.

Had a chat with DS and his partner yesterday. They are happy in Bulgaria and he has taken up a new hobby; making sourdough! I mentioned you karma and how you nurture your starter, he agreed it’s like having a pet, you have to feed it every day!😄

I’m going to buy a cross-trainer today. I should have bought one instead of the exercise bike which I don’t like. I had one which I used every day for years until it broke. As it was around the time of DH becoming ill, I didn’t bother to replace it.

Hoping you have a good day.☀️

Good morning from a bright and sunny NE Mids. The intense heat yesterday meant that we didn’t venture out at all but MrA has a GP appointment this morning although he should be back home long before it gets too hot. No plans to venture further than the vegetable garden and greenhouse.
Have a good day one and all!

Sar53 Tue 23-Jun-26 06:34:39

Good morning from the Essex coast where we have had a spectacular storm with torrential rain for most of the night. It has cooled the air somewhat.
My back is aching rather a lot so I shall take things easy today. A little ironing and some admin.
DGD1 passed her driving test yesterday at the first attempt, she is thrilled as are we all.
Have a good day everyone xx

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Jun-26 06:36:08

Gingster the rain is so heavy at the moment, and the temperature is beginning to rise (19°).

I am exhausted, no gym for me today.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Jun-26 06:36:44

Well done to your GD1 Sar53 👏👏👏

Cossy Tue 23-Jun-26 06:44:50

Morning all

Thunderstorms since 3:00am and still horrendous rain here in South Essex, yet still muggy and sweaty!

Enjoy your day, I won’t be leaving my house today flowers

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. The sky looks a little overcast, yesterday’s rain cleared in the evening giving us some late sunshine.

Today I’ve a nail appointment then I must finish packing, we leave early tomorrow morning. DH will take the daft dug to the dog sitter’s house this afternoon where DD’s dog will also be boarding so they’ll be company for each other.

I hope everyone manages to ride out the heatwave safely.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Jaxjacky Tue 23-Jun-26 06:46:37

Morning from a sticky S Hants, no storms sadly, 21 and rising.
Voluntary phone yesterday was averagely busy, all requests were sorted eventually.
We had more early potatoes from the garden with dinner, tasty, who knows what we’re having tonight. MrJ is playing bowls this evening if it’s not cancelled, cleaning lady here this afternoon.
Have a pleasant day if you can.

Good morning from Cornwall where it's dry and warm, following a strange day weather-wise yesterday! Talk about capricious! I hopped on a bus to a superstore as the heat rose, bought compost and a planter for my herbs and emerged from the store to discover large puddles. No rain had been forecast but hey ho, there it all was. At home my early morning books were still on my swing seat so I assumed they'd be soaked. I've never known it so hot while overcast and rainy. But when I got home only three miles away my patio was dry in full sun. Bizarre.

A jolly bus driver told me the bus was going to St Ives (it wasn't), just being funny, so I replied that I was happy to go there, but he brought me home. Maybe the heat had got to him. 😂

Today is full sun apparently. I have to wait in for a maintenence man my landlord is sending round but later will catch a bus to my son's to watch the England match. I'm expecting the delivery of a wooden bench for my patio some time this week so will be rearranging plants out there today. A lovely pottering time as the sun doesn't emerge from around the wild wood until mid afternoon.

When did I become so flipping weather-obsessed? 😂😂

latedecember1963 Tue 23-Jun-26 06:53:18

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire. After yesterday's dull start, the sun came out and we had a beautiful day.
I got 3 loads of washing dried outside.
Our garden has some areas of dappled shade so that's where I set up the little chap's water table. He also likes playing with plant pots and trays, collecting pebbles. We ate lots of melon to keep us both hydrated.

Today a friend is coming to look after him while I accompany DH to an appointment at Rochdale Infirmary. We're allowing plenty of time to find a parking space as we've not been before.

Well done to your grand daughter, Sar53. One of life's rites of passage.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. 🌻

Gagagran Tue 23-Jun-26 07:00:26

Good Morning everyone. Not enjoying this heat at all and agree with Karma and GM. No avoiding it so just have to get through it.

It is not helping as I am still suffering the after effects of my rose garden fall and have had little real improvement. I am wondering now if I should have gone to A&E but the thought of hours waiting in a crowded waiting room while feeling so unwell and uncomfortable totally put me off. Still does. I hate medical interventions.

We did have a piece of hugely cheering news yesterday when our DGD3 told us she had just received her degree results from Durham - she achieved a First (in Mathematics) So very proud of her and her determination and hard work.

Also heard from DD at her conference in Melbourne, where it was feeling chilly. She is moving on to Hong Kong at the weekend to meet her old university friend for a few days holiday there.

Take care everyone, especially in the heatwave. This too shall end. It really doesn't suit our life styles!

Greyduster Tue 23-Jun-26 07:05:51

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is a mere 15 degrees at the moment, due to rise to 32 by mid afternoon. I heard thunder rumbling around at four-ish but there doesn’t appear to have been any rain.

I didn’t intend to do very much yesterday but I cut the front lawn early and did some jobs in the house, then I tidied up the patio and cut back some plants in the afternoon, and weeded the bed at the side of the drive. Two of my new heathers are not doing very well so I must move them but I didn’t have the energy by the time I had finished. I needed a shower and a lie down!

When it cooled down a little I drove over to our local mall to collect a pair of trousers from M&S that I had ordered.

Today is school and I hope I will be able to work in the library because the alternative is a small airless room which, if there is no fan in there, I will refuse to use.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 23-Jun-26 07:12:03

Morning all from a muggy and humid Kew.

I was awake in the night due to the most amazing thunder storm which lasted an hour. I can hear it still rumbling away, but it may be the tube!

I’m not sure of my plans after dropping granddaughter off at school. I have a ticket for the Escher exhibition but I might just go to Kew Gardens.

Have’s good day everyone and keep hydrated.

Gelisajams Tue 23-Jun-26 07:15:35

Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe Bay. It’s warm and sunny already. We haven’t had the thunderstorms here. Not a drop of rain yesterday or overnight. I was out in the garden several times during the night as Crazy Dog couldn’t settle and kept woofing to go out. If he needs to go out he gives one loud sharp woof. I’m not sure if it’s the heat or a reaction to his anaphylaxis.
A fairly lazy day yesterday apart from half an hours gardening, and all books are now returned to the downstairs bookshelves.
I’m off to get my hearing aids fitted this morning, but I suspect it won’t happen as I don’t think my ear infection has cleared yet. DH may take CD out on his own and I’ll get a bit more weeding done before my appointment.
Congratulations to your GD Sar
Thinking of all with troubles. Take care.🌸

Usedtobeblonde Tue 23-Jun-26 07:15:56

Good morning from a most beautiful morning in Stockport.

Yesterday was just too hot for me.
I had half an hour under the umbrella in the garden but came in to take in the Sainsbury’s order and put it away then stayed indoors for the rest of the day.

I watched the football then came up about nine to read with my bedroom fan on high.
A very disturbed night with heat and unsettling dreams.

I hope most of you are coping but please take the advice offered here and stay hydrated and pace yourselves.

monk08 Tue 23-Jun-26 07:18:04

Good morning all from a muggy Black country.
Today DH has a medication phone review anytime between 8-1 as he never hears the phone I will need to be close at hand, he will not wear his hearing aids in the house.
A trip to garden centre later we need some potting compost and a few things from the deli/farm shop. We will stop off for a meal on the way back using another of our vouchers.
Well done to your DGD Sar53.
Safe travels anyone on the move and virtual hugs where needed, enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans ☀️.

Ashcombe Tue 23-Jun-26 07:18:08

Good morning from a sunny Torbay with a hint of a breeze. A heavy shower came around tea time last night but not a thunderstorm.

We had a good journey home with trains running on time and the air conditioning keeping us comfortable. A lovely but very busy family weekend!

Congratulations to your clever DGD3, Gagagran; she must have worked very hard. Good news regarding your DGD1 passing her driving test, Sar53. A valuable skill for life.

I’ll be glad of the coolth of the theatre today as we shall be busy putting props away from last week's play.

Keep cool and hydrated, everyone! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
