A different hot weather question.

We are looking after my grandsons while DS and DIL are having a few days away. The youngest is 11, in his last year at junior school and my son is forwarding on any pertinent messages from school.
We got one yesterday to say that today and tomorrow ice pops will be on sale at break at the cost of 50p each. No worries, we popped today’s 50p in a little cash bag in his rucksack. But it got me thinking - hopefully an 11 year old won’t lose his 50p but what about the littlies who either forget or lose their 50p’s? Are they to stand by and watch the others enjoying theirs?
May not be relevant but this is a small Catholic Ofsted rated excellent school in an affluent area. Surely from the Cash & Carry ice pops would cost a few pence each and could, in this extreme weather, be given to every child regardless. Not very inclusive to my mind.
We don’t have many dealings with school but would it be very out of order for me to contact them and say we would happily pay for every child to have an ice pop tomorrow. Or is that acting out of turn? Perhaps I’m over-reacting but I was once that little child who lost their pennies on a school trip and had to do without.
What do you reckon? Would you do it?

That's really nice of you.
I have no idea if they will except this but it's worth a phone call to ask.

I think that is a generous and thoughtful thing to do. I'd contact your son to ask if he'd mind you doing it first and if he has no objections ring the school to make your offer.

I agree with PP. A kind and thoughful gesture. But as OP says ice pops from a cash and carry would be very cheap for the school to fund. And such an unexpected treat for the kids whether rich or poor. Hopefullthe PTA will step in with some dosh.

How thoughtful!
Yes - I think that would be a lovely thing to do and I wonder how the school will respond.
Please do let us know the outcome.

If that happened at the school I taught at, someone would step in and buy all an ice pop. We wouldn’t see anyone go without

You would hope a Church school would respond positively to this. Our Parent Teacher Association are missing a trick selling theirs at 20p. I think it is a lovely idea of yours. I have a mental image of one child, without an ice pop, standing on their own, watching all the other children enjoying theirs. sad

Thank you so much for your thoughts.
Hopefully JamesandJon33 that was the case today and no child has had to go without.
I have contacted my son, he says it’s not my place to have to do anything but to leave it with him. He said that all the parents have an account with school through which things like school trips, lunches, etc are paid for and that no money usually changes hands between the children themselves and the staff.
I will see what comes of it.
