I do like the Tesco one but have only seen that and the M & S one so far.

We enjoyed "Home Fires" too Jalimal. Wasn't it disappointing the way they ended it? I don't really enjoy drama programmes much but when I do enjoy one they cut it!! angry

BlueBelle Mon 13-Nov-17 05:20:01

So sorry Gracesgran I thought threads were about everyone offering an opinion whether it was in agreement or not

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 13-Nov-17 02:32:58

Hi Jalima Hope you're well! grin

RAF that's a great video! wink

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 22:59:17

I like it because it's Tan Hill Inn. Been past it more often than we've been in it.
We nearly bought a guest house on the Pennine Way north of Tan Hill. We decided it was a bit too remote.

Was that the series about the WI that ended on a cliff-hanger and then they never brought it back?

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 22:28:33

I might be more attracted to it because the music sounds like the music from "Home Fires" which I really liked.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 22:20:49

Just seen the Waitrose Ad. I like that one.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 20:47:13

That is just your opinion of Christmas BlueBelle. Mine is not having an argument about the meaning of Christmas in the middle of a harmless thread that some are enjoying.

You just do it your way. No one will stop you.

BlueBelle Sun 12-Nov-17 19:28:44

gracesgran what goodwill is created by spending copious amounts of money to entice people to spend more copious amounts of money when the whole meaning of Christmas should be about love, and giving in a dignified and modest way I really don’t see where it has anything to do with my family, it’s just my opinion only and I stick by it
I d prefer to see the razzmatazz start in December and I d like it to be a competition for the best advert for the least money then I could actually applaud some ingenuity instead of the huge over the top reaction or how about open it to students studying media advertising and see if they could come up with something wonderful on a small budget Nothing I ve seen so far has made me want to rush to a particular shop has it anyone I buy where I see something the receiver would want I don’t watch an advert and think now I must go shopping in that store for all my presents ...do you ?

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 18:56:53

Have you seen the Waitrose one, getting snowed in at the Tan Hill Inn? Good place to go in the Summer holidays, but you need warm clothes and snow boots any other time of the year.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 16:56:17

RAF, that's lovely. Thanks for putting it on, even if JL didn't commission it.

Jalima1108 Sun 12-Nov-17 14:30:56

On second thoughts, I will not say bah humbug.

If Cromwell banned television and Christmas adverts as well as Christmas and anything else jolly, then I am all for Christmas adverts, telly and a very merry Christmas.

Jalima1108 Sun 12-Nov-17 14:22:51

Wilma Hello! smile

RAF Sun 12-Nov-17 14:01:23

John Lewis chose the wrong one, they commissioned more than one, and should have done with this one! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZyjJtBIlow

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 12-Nov-17 12:15:54

It was driving me mad trying to work out who the man is in the Debenham's ad and it turns out to be Ewan McGregor. Lovely voice - he should do audiobooks!

Christmas is as commercial as you want it to be. It's a personal choice that should be respected like any other.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 09:45:12

No television or adverts when Cromwell was around.

loopyloo Sun 12-Nov-17 08:00:25

Bluebell, Totally agree. Cromwell had the right idea. He banned Christmas. Mind you, perhaps that's why we had the restoration of the monarchy. Some of it is fun.

Shirleyw Sun 12-Nov-17 07:32:09

I like the m&s and JL ads but really I think they should be advertised and play Christmas music in their stores at least till after Remembrance Day....gets earlier every year...

DanniRae Sat 11-Nov-17 20:47:10

I've finally seen the M and S Christmas ad and I loved it!!

goldengirl Sat 11-Nov-17 11:11:12

It's already out on Twitter from a Changing Places campaigner but spreading the word in other ways - even just amongst friends or writing to your nearest store - would raise awareness

GracesGranMK2 Sat 11-Nov-17 10:53:22

I can understand your feeling about where the money goes goldengirl. Is there someway GN posters could let John Lewis know we would like them to do that?

MissAdventure Sat 11-Nov-17 10:44:57

Not watching them doesn't mean I can't express an opinion on them. I find them gross.

Nanny123 Sat 11-Nov-17 10:40:54

Whilst I like the adverts I do think some of them are out far to early, but for me the thing that I cant get over is the money that these cost. I have heard that the new JL one cost 7 million.

goldengirl Sat 11-Nov-17 10:36:19

The cost of these adverts is what piques me. JL for example wants us to spend in their shop but they won't shell out for a Changing Places facility [far less cost than an ad!] which provides a hoist and changing bench for adults and children who need more than what's on offer in the accessible loo and who would also like to shop in JL.

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 10:34:58

There's an obvious answer - don't watch them. Watch BBC instead.
I saw the JL one last night, but didn't worry about whether I liked it or not. Plenty of other things in my mind at the moment without being overly concerned about Christmas ads.
It's the same answer I give to those who complain about the politics threads on here. If you don't like them, don't read them, and definitely don't respond.
