I do like the Tesco one but have only seen that and the M & S one so far.

I LOVE Christmas and look forward to seeing all the Christmas adverts. I don't care that it's only November - I say bring it all on: The adverts - The shops with all their amazing decorations - The towns all lit up with Christmas lights - all the plans for Christmas get togethers - I LOVE it all!! grin

I love the run up to Christmas with all the music, decorations etc. Just wish it would all start at the beginning of Dec. It's not the same in France, much less hype. I enjoy the ads but I am beginning to feel a bit like BlueBelle that they are spending such large amounts of money which could be put to much better use. I'm definitely not a bah humbug person but I am feeling uncomfortable about using all this money on an advert.

BlueBelle Fri 10-Nov-17 08:21:44

Have just seen the Mand S one which made no mpact at all I m afraid
Did I read that the JOhn Lewis one cost 6 million if I heard that right then its blooming disgusting when so many people in the world are starving and is this really what Christmas is about who can outdo everyone else It’s a horrible concept and if you all think I m a miserable old so and so I ll take it on the chin
Now if John Lewis gave 6 million to some time charity for Christmas I d pop in their shop in a heartbeat

I love the M&S one with Paddington and the carrot one, can't remember who that was but I think it could be Aldi. It is a bit early but we still have John Lewis's to look forward to.

Not seen any ads yet, I rarely watch TV so I usually see them on YouTube.
I had the oddest moment this evening though when I popped down to my local Spar and they had a Christmas song playing; I turned to the woman next to me and was just about to comment that it's far too soon for that when I realised that I was actually about to pay for sellotape and Christmas wrapping paper!! blush
Now I have backache from bending over on the floor, but most of the gifts are wrapped and ready to go!

But the and M and S one with paddington and the burglar ?

Caro1954 Thu 09-Nov-17 22:24:46

We usually record ITV etc and fast forward the adverts. Till December anyway ... They won't influence me though.

rafichagran Thu 09-Nov-17 20:06:49

I like the Marks and Spencer one too, but it is a bit early though

W11girl Thu 09-Nov-17 18:34:14

I avoid Christmas ads where possible. Always seem to be out of the room when they come on. Last year or maybe the year before, M&S flogged "Fly me to The Moon" to death in a christmas ad, I can't listen to what was once one of my favourite songs any more.

Judlespoo Thu 09-Nov-17 14:01:13

We don't appreciate all the adverts till December, but by then we're fed up of them. I have started Christmas present shopping already so quite organised really.

Legs55 Thu 09-Nov-17 13:55:56

Caught a glimpse of both M&S and Aldi, not really watched them. I've bought most of my presents, cards are ready to write next week ready for posting 1st December. I will then wrap presents. Tree & decorations go up around 1st December (everyone here puts their's up around then).

I refuse to buy Mince Pies before 1st December although I love them.

sarahellenwhitney Thu 09-Nov-17 13:30:46

The top of my list are Anchor's' best present ever ' 2016
.and 'I will outlive you all.'2017.
How many of us as some time haven't come across some one like this in our midst.?grin

sarahellenwhitney Thu 09-Nov-17 13:10:23

GracesGranMk2
I have seen the Tesco xmas ad. 'All welcome'
Am not impressed.
Their point being?

kooklafan Thu 09-Nov-17 13:09:46

The animated one for VERY is quite pleasant.

paddyann Thu 09-Nov-17 12:31:51

I dont mind them but then I worked in Santas grotto for a few years and heard christmas carols from mid November until Christmas eve ...when I was all christmssed out! I did make a batch of mince pies last week though especially for my OH who saw some in an ad and salivated ..three types were produced ,mincemeat, mincemeat and apple and mincemeat and apple with icing

MinniesMum Thu 09-Nov-17 12:13:51

Haven't seen any of them yet - I must really be out of touch. I have bought an artificial tree this year from JL for the first time ever. I will never forget getting the very heavy pine tree out of the house last year and I am still finding little heaps of pine needles in corners which have been hoovered lots of times - I'm sure they are breeding! DH hurt his back getting the darned thing out of the house.
Its the mincepies that get me - resisted so far but ......
Sheilasue - I now have all the fruit etc so my Christmas cake will be started soon. I just don't feel Christmassy yet though - does anyone else?

Craftycat Thu 09-Nov-17 11:58:34

Thank you for the link Shysal. I don't watch ads on TV as I record commercial stations & whizz through them so very glad to see them even if far too early.
I hate to admit it but JL one made me cry- I am such a sucker for cute furry animals.

Cambia Thu 09-Nov-17 11:40:17

Don’t think they make any difference to people spending with them, so a waste of money! I would like to see them compete with each other by donating to food banks at Christmas instead but I suppose that is a bit idealistic.
I think we should have a law that doesn’t allow anything Christmassy until the 1st of December anywhere. Heard my first Christmas song yesterday in Superdrug and was very pleased that I am now going to Greece and not coming back until two weeks before Christmas!

quEEEniE Thu 09-Nov-17 11:30:11

vq thanks for the laugh it really made my morning. Unfortunately (maybe) l have not seen the adverts so can't comment.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 09-Nov-17 11:23:44

It is a bit early and I try not to take too much notice of these ads. However, it's too late to influence me as all the presents have been bought and are wrapped up at the back of the wardrobe.
I find Kevin the carrot rather sweet, though in RL I'm not keen on carrots - or brussels sprouts for that matter but that's a whole other thread.

hildajenniJ Thu 09-Nov-17 10:49:18

I happened to see the piece Phil and Holly did about the M&S advert. I thought it was very juvenile indeed. I never watch This Morning but DH was home and had it on the TV. I haven't seen any of the new Christmas adverts, mainly because I usually watch BBC or Netflix.

grannytotwins Thu 09-Nov-17 10:41:34

Any Christmas advertising whether on tv or in the shops in November makes me less inclined to spend money with them. I hate this commercialised hype for one day with a roast dinner and some presents.

Sheilasue Thu 09-Nov-17 10:34:25

Love the Paddington bear advert.
Well I have started anyway, have my fruit soaking for my cake. Small stocking presents are in bag tucked away. Looking for a few more.
My d and gd love Xmas and although my son who died 10years ago loved Xmas we make the best of it for their sakes.

MawBroon Wed 08-Nov-17 18:42:31

Well I tried but you ignored my comments.
PS having just seen the Aldi one, it’s not setting the world on fire either is it?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 08-Nov-17 18:24:40

Would you like to leave me alone MawBroon and talk about the topic of the thread?
