Lilyflower I am trying to be fair ..... We have no idea what went on between him and his mother. Were you there? I wasn't. Perhaps he was horrible, or they were both horrible, or both too alike? It was said that she didn't like his husband, which is a story we often read here on GN. Apparently they were reconciled for several years before she died.
I'm sure he does have a flamboyant and difficult temperament. Many creative people do.
It doesn't take away from the fact that he has talent, he must have put in years and years of piano practice which I know I couldn't personally be a*sed to do, he has written musical, not only pop songs, and in giving his name to this advert, he has raised money for charity.... that's the £5 million you mention that you "can only suppose" has gone to him. You're wrong. And as mentioned before, in 2004 he gave $43 million to charity so he's a pretty generous kind of guy whatever you think of him personally.
I find I am defending him on here when I never thought of myself as a huge fan, but I do like some of his music, especially "Your Song", I do think he's a showman, and I do like the advert. I don't envy him his wealth or feel the need to make snide comments. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and this is mine.
