How many mince pies...

I managed 3 dozen from 12 oz the other day, but I do like the pastry quite thin, plus I'm putting on smaller lids than usual, since the 'lid' cutter I usually use went to dd's some time ago, for Gdd to make 'cakes' from PlayDoh.
Smaller lids are easier though!
I prefer them now - marginally fewer calories, too.

I usually get about 20/22 and they don't last too long in my house when my big Grandsons pop in after work they enjoy a couple with a and take a couple for their packed lunches the next day.
During December I make quite a few batches of mince pies.

I prefer the thinner mince pie pastry and small too. This is why I make my own as shop ones are too thick----horrible.
I get a few trays out of a mix but you have to have a serviette at the ready as they tend to collapse/crumble after the first bite ( just how I like them )

Yes, I used to go by Delia's recipe and never got as many as she did. I now cheat a bit, and buy a shortcrust pastry mix instead, and add a bit of caster sugar and orange juice in place of water to mix. I still have to mix and roll out though, but I don't mind that. I usually get 2 dozen mince pies from 1 pack of pastry mix.

They must be extremely mini mince pies! Good if you're on a diet, I guess.

I think I used to get 2 doz from said amount of pastry. But this year I made almond pastry, and only got 22
(But they are nice).. we had to test taste, as two were thin on the bottom, and could have leaked!!

That's a possibility. Hadn't thought of that! We do like a decent mouthful or two.

She must do as I only got 28 from 14oz pastry. Perhaps her pastry cutter is smaller ?
