This year's is kind of cute although still seems too early for me. But isn't it a re-run of something, I recall the story of a dragon who caused trouble with his flames and was then hired at the bakery when the oven failed, was that a children's story I read to my children, Denis the Dragon?

When did the " Christmas Advert" become a thing?

I don't hate you grapefruitpip

I think the blame can be laid at the feet of Woolworths

Gonegirl Fri 15-Nov-19 14:25:24

Still got mine, even if he is leaking sawdust. I still kiss his nose occasionally.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Nov-19 14:24:25

(I googled it)

My teddy hasn't gone to landfill yet grapefruitpip and he must be nearly 70.

Good my lord, be cured
Of this diseased opinion, and betimes;
For ’tis most dangerous.

I don't hate you grapefruitpip. xx

I know when they FaceTime me Christmas morning when they open their presents she will laugh and I love her laughter.

She messaged me yesterday evening after watching the advert and said ‘he is so cute’ ?

Callistemon Fri 15-Nov-19 14:20:55

Excitable Edgar grin

Oopsminty Fri 15-Nov-19 14:16:18

annibach! I'm getting one for my youngest daughter! She's a teacher but never too old for a wee dragon! She loves the advert so that's a good stocking filler!

Gonegirl Fri 15-Nov-19 14:09:29

That's a great idea Anniebach. smile

grapefruitpip Fri 15-Nov-19 14:01:46

Haven't seen it, probably won't see it, won't be buying any landfill.

Anniebach Fri 15-Nov-19 13:53:59

Lisa, I just checked, John Lewis is selling them and you can ordered on line.

Lisagran Fri 15-Nov-19 13:45:39

Can you buy them online Annie ?

Anniebach Fri 15-Nov-19 13:43:59

My youngest grandchild loves the advert, I am going to buy her an Edgar as a present, she is at university but she is still my
little girl ?

I think maybe the message is also about how some of us are a little bit different (or a lot) and other people cannot see past the differences.

Bobdoesit Fri 15-Nov-19 13:37:11

annsixty I agree with you it's lovely and I'm sure I won't get fed up with it either. I'm about to send the link to my granddaughters in Australia, they will adore it.

I'm addicted to iced top mince pies. I can't stop myself. I'm eating almost a box a day!!!
Pregnancy craving? Someone help me.

Misses the point of the thread entirely.

Annabel7 Fri 15-Nov-19 13:17:13

You obviously do not live in a UK enclave, where Iceland and Lidl supply mince pies, but you can stock up on Turron - lovely almond Christmas delicacy

Saggi Fri 15-Nov-19 12:52:03

Pass the sick bucket!

Conni7 Fri 15-Nov-19 12:43:58

Horrible. Spoilsport dragon, disappointing all those children. What does it have to do with Christmas?

quEEEniE Fri 15-Nov-19 12:39:12

does not beat Argos, which is up lifting , makes me smile

grapefruitpip Fri 15-Nov-19 12:20:24

Phloem, I am not a Christian, despite a few attempts. I believe the message of the gospels was caring for others and the birth of Jesus symbolizes hope.

I can quite understand how offensive this spend fest is to Christians.

Camelotclub Fri 15-Nov-19 12:12:49

Song is by REO Speedwagon but it's not the original in the ad. From somewhere around 1981/2!

grapefruitpip Fri 15-Nov-19 12:11:34

Everybody hates me so here goes. When did the " Christmas Advert" become a thing?

People lying on our streets, children living in poverty, only today somebody in my area asking for childrens coats, and we worship a Christmas Advert?

*And all eyes
Blind with the pin and web but theirs, theirs only,
That would unseen be wicked - is this nothing?
Why, then the world and all that's in't is nothing;
The covering sky is nothing*

pinkquartz Fri 15-Nov-19 12:11:19

Phloembundle

It was the festival of Mid winter first.....and now again
Hence the lights and food being so important

Jan66 Fri 15-Nov-19 11:56:49

I love the advert
