This year's is kind of cute although still seems too early for me. But isn't it a re-run of something, I recall the story of a dragon who caused trouble with his flames and was then hired at the bakery when the oven failed, was that a children's story I read to my children, Denis the Dragon?

Well, I'm sure the society for the protection of dragons will have something to say about the blatant mistreatment of dragons. And I had to watch the ad several times before I noticed just one person of colour. The trans support groups will be up in arms because they're not represented (although I suppose there might have been gender neutral toilets in the town square?) smile

I think it is lovely and as always I love the song .
I don't know who it is, I will have to Google it.
I watch very little tv so won't be fed up with it by Christmas.

Just had a quick to look , definitely got the ahhh factor.?

Just texted my DD to show my little grandson, he is being a very brave little boy at the eye Hospital,
I'm sure it will cheer him up and he will probably watch on a loop.

I liked it - its sweet and I thought it was inoffensive until I read Gaunts post wink

EllanVannin Thu 14-Nov-19 09:29:24

That's some advert. No wonder the cost goes into ££££billions

Dottynan Thu 14-Nov-19 09:34:12

Yes I thoroughly enjoyed it until I read Gaunts post. Didn't realise I needed to analyse and critique it to decide if I enjoyed it.

Auntieflo Thu 14-Nov-19 09:57:32

I saw it this morning, and thought it very sweet.
Why can't we just enjoy it at face value and not over analyse everything? ?
Is there a "tongue in cheek" emoticon?

I think it’s cute but surely there are better ways to spend £7 million (that’s the approximate budget according to the Guardian).
Maybe they should spend £1 million on a cute advert and donate the other £6 million to Crisis at Christmas or another useful cause. Presumably there are many JL customers who would appreciate that equally.
(I am now ready to be told I am a misery-guts)...

Oopsminty Thu 14-Nov-19 10:04:47

Not my favourite

elasticatedslacks Thu 14-Nov-19 10:12:25

I thought it was over sentimental tosh and pretty dull - I think the last one I enjoyed was the one Lilly Allen sang to.

Americanpie Thu 14-Nov-19 10:12:32

Not seen it and probably will not. We tape anything with adverts and fast forward to the programme. It suits us.

annodomini Thu 14-Nov-19 10:30:53

In the past, I think Waitrose has advertised separately from JL. This year, the ad is for the partnership which presumably saves on the budget.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Nov-19 10:39:47

I agree with you Nortsat that money spent on such advertising would be better spent on the children whose Christmas is marred by poverty.

Cherrytree59 Thu 14-Nov-19 10:51:38

Well I'm sure whatever JL and W spend on their Christmas advert, it will have come out of their yearly advertising
budget.

The £££s will easily be recouped over the festive season. dragondragondragon.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Nov-19 11:00:13

Well, I suppose. If this country's rich enough to send China £7 million to help families there to reduce their salt intake ( I kid you not ) then why should we worry about an advert costing millions ?? Except that I always thought that charity begins at home.

NfkDumpling Thu 14-Nov-19 11:02:59

I quite like the Sainsbury’s one.

glammanana Thu 14-Nov-19 11:28:29

Edgar the Dragon will certainly be popular this year with the little ones, requests for him in to be in Christmas Boxes for sure he is so cute.
Personally the Aldi ad is my favourite up until now.

Ellianne Thu 14-Nov-19 12:04:14

Dottynan I agree, who would even notice what colour or sexual persuasion the actors are? I liked the advert, one of their better ones for quite a while.

Gonegirl Thu 14-Nov-19 12:27:37

The other thread is much better than this one.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Nov-19 12:44:33

I agree Gonegirl but then I’m probably not woke enough for this one!

Good point though EV who’d have even known that?

Bodach Thu 14-Nov-19 12:53:28

Gaunt47 - are we the only two people on here who appreciate irony?

Gaunt47 Thu 14-Nov-19 13:25:19

Bodach - I guess we are wink

merlotgran Thu 14-Nov-19 13:52:35

Your post made me chuckle, Gaunt
