For me.its the grandchildren opening their presents, the shrieks of joy, playing with them with their toys etc, seeing everyone happy,

Me too. The 2nd of January.

My favourite part is when the Christmas dinner is on the table and my family are all joyfully tucking in sharing much laughter and banter. After my one glass of sherry I feel happy that i've managed to cook without too many mishaps!!!

I love everything about Christmas ?

We shall all be together this year the day after Boxing Day, noisy (and just not the GC), food, fizz and silly games.

It would be nice to see all those happy people but they are all behind private closed doors

6pm Christmas Eve when all the shops are shut and what’s not been bought really doesn’t matter.

Then Christmas morning when my family arrive and the chaos begins - lovely.

Christmas Day with my children and grown up grandchildren especially as they now take it in turns to host the day and the rest of us take a contribution to the lunch.
Boxing Day is busy for me as they all come to me for my birthday so I do have to rustle up a buffet and have to do it from scratch as I don't have any leftovers to use up.

Walks in the morning if the weather is half decent and family board or card games in the afternoon.

The thing I enjoy the most is watching people opening the presents that I bought them - (always assuming that I got it right, of course! )

When it's over!

I am 66 now but when I was a child Christmas was so very special because you didn’t get anything for all the rest of the year and the little bit you got at Christmas maybe a paint box or a little three legged red piano those things were so so special. Now I find people have too much of everything, we only used to get peanuts and oranges at Christmas! And there’s got to be something very wrong when you have to rack your brains to buy presents for people who have everything and want for nothing. I find now it’s just an excuse for people to over eat over drink and overspend but I have grandchildren so I do have to put on a happy :-) for their sakes but I am so glad I really did appreciate Christmas when I was a child:also we didn’t have weeks and weeks of Christmas preparation, about two weeks before Christmas we started getting excited, my brother and I used to write a Christmas list and set it on fire and put it up the chimney, I am very thankful for the times I grew up in, I don’t envy my grandkids growing up in this world today. Anyway seasonal jollifications to you all ?

When it is over....

When I was a child it was waking, in the dark, and feeling my Dad’s army sock with its crackly contents lying on my feet. The excitement of unwrapping the small presents from Father Christmas, who had actually been!
When my children were younger it was decorating the tree with them and feeling their growing excitement. Ah! happy days when we were all together as a small family unit
Now, I find it difficult to muster much excitement. I enjoy the simple things - opening cards from friends and hearing their news - and, I have an advent ‘calendar’ this year filled with mini wine bottles which gives me great pleasure ? ?

To switch on TV and not having to endure the cringing xmas ads that seem to have been going on for ever.

henetha Sun 15-Dec-19 11:12:24

I don't want to be an old Scrooge, but I don't really like any of it much and always look forward to 2nd January.
But when I had my family around me I always liked Boxing Day as we could all relax, no more cooking, shopping etc.

Gingergirl Sun 15-Dec-19 11:17:14

Another one who isn’t a fan of Christmas. Its a time to see family...,but we would see them every so often anyway. GC really have everything they want so although it’s nice seeing them open presents, it’s not an enormous deal. We are also grieving this year....so actually, Christmas feels like a hurdle to get over. Looking forward to the new year.
