Reminds me of the last time I hosted Christmas - pretty sure we had got through two bottles of champagne before lunch! Thankfully my turn only comes round every three years and 2020 it will be my turn again....

I always cooked the turkey for the family until my husband and I went to Spain for the winter. Christmas afternoon we found a phone box (no mobiles in 1977) to see how they got on. DiL said She prepared the turkey as per my instructions, put it into oven on automatic but failed to switch it on.
In those days you could not get turkey in Spain.

I'm on Step 6, but just have to go and put the rotatoes in to poast!
Mind you, I am unexpectedly spending Christmas on my own instead of with the family, having developed mumps ... and there was I thinking you couldn't get them more than once but, despite suffering at Christmas more than 60 years ago, it seems that once again I get to enjoy them. Lucky me!

Absolutely hilarious!! Made my day.

Helped serve crew with their Xmas dinner today but no wine was opened for their lunch. Work has to go on for those working on board so no imbibing until later on for them. Pity - it might have made their jobs just a bit lighter!

Senior officers' dinner tonight but I'm sure a little bit of wine will go down well, except for those who have to return to their posts. (It won't do to have staff staggering at work - the sea does enough to our gaits!tchconfused) I hope chef cooks up a storm down in the kitchen!

CHEERS!winetchsmile

Greetings to everyone from the seas of south New Zealand.

Wonderful Maw. Just how I would do it if I were at home. We have opted out this year and have everything prepared for us at a wonderful hotel in Wiltshire. We arrived yesterday and leave on Friday. Everything you could wish for including a surprise christmas stocking left by santa outside of our door.
Enjoy your christmas everyone and for those who are on your own or feel sad we are with you in spirit. Lots of love from Carole and DH.xtchsmile

Love it! Our Christmas always starts with a drop of whisky in the first cup of the day, so ahead of you there!

A few years ago I had a terrible cold, the sort where you don't want to bother with anything. As we had visitors coming, I staggered into the kitchen. Put the oven on to warm up, prepared the turkey, threw it in the pan, threw the pan in the oven. The oven went bang and packed up. Electric element gone. No way to cook the turkey. I opened the bottle of sherry. Happy Christmas!
