Boxes of chocolates

I have been given a box of chocolates for Christmas, and have been sampling them this afternoon?.

They are what one would describe as modern flavours. Whilst delicious I have decided that I really prefer the more traditional flavours.

Who needs chocolates when you can get Toffifee? Chocolate, nuts and toffee all in one. Yum. Apart from that, I don't think you can beat Lindor in all forms.
Quality Street have become a real disappointment as they have pretty much removed all my favourites or limited the quantities of them. As far as I am concerned you can keep the coconut and cream ones. Give me nuts, toffee or the orange crisp.
If I were to choose a a bar of chocolate it would be a Dark Milk Chocolate one from Green and Blacks. Other than that, anything with Salted Caramel gets my vote, palm oil or not.

I used to like the toffee and hard centres best - but need to be careful with the teeth now!!!! We’ve got Celebrations. Like those and nothing too hard!!! Reading about Mars bars I could def eat one now! ??

What happened to the boxes with lovely chocolate boxy pictures?

I like the older flavours too, though I don't like any of the creams except a strong mint. And I positively LOATHE praline though I love marzipan which I suppose is a sort of praline.
All in all I think I prefer a nice slab of milk chocolate, I'm very plebeian and don't much like the dark.
@EllanVannin I remember the Terry's boxes with little drawers too and still have one of them (somewhere!). And the big chocolate boxes with just one layer and a lovely picture.

Hard centres for me; nuts and toffees. You lot can have all the creams.

I’m another lover of coffee chocolates and find it harder and harder to find them. M&S do coffee filled bars, or did, and tThorntons always have a lovely selection, but I’m now going to investigate Hotel Chocolates.

Coffee, praline, truffle - in that order. However I am an addict for Peanut M&Ms. My daughter always sends me some modern, fancy chocolates, and I eat them - it is chocolate after all, but would love someone to tell her to save her money and send me some M&Ms or Thorntons Truffles.

White chocolate is an abomination.

It seems to be assumed that everyone likes Belgian type chocolates these days. I also prefer the ones we used to have. One of my favourites was the cracknel in Quality Street but they did away with that several years ago.

Only the same rubbish news that thousands of other families have to deal with for Christmas, at very short notice, Namsnanny. I'm telling myself "it's just one day; there will be others; it's no big deal", but I'm fed up with it nevertheless! smile

I like the Orange and Strawberry creams in Quality Street. I used to love Weekend boxes of chocolates from years ago. You used to get candy and jelly sweets in them as well as chocolate one's. I used to like the green one. I also like marzipan sweets as well. Lidl sells some nice bars with dark chocolate on them.

Namsnanny Sun 20-Dec-20 11:54:34

What happened yesterday Chewbacca?

Namsnanny Sun 20-Dec-20 11:52:56

EllenVallen and half the pleasure in a Mars bar was how thick the outer coat of chocolate was.
If I want a chucky treat nowadays (rare) I have a fancy icecream with a thick chocolate coating.
OoooI might have to get one for the freezer, I dont have to guzzle it down in one do I?????tchblush

EllanVannin Sun 20-Dec-20 11:50:35

Proper Turkish Delight and not the gelatine-free muck.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Dec-20 11:49:56

I made a batch of clementine & chocolate hoky poky this morning. It was for Christmas but after yesterday's news, maybe not.

Even I’ve moved on from Cadbury’s since thy were taken over by one of the colonies.

The colonies made me laugh Wwmk2.
I agree though. Theyve ruined my treat! Its far to sweet and not so chocolatey!
I like Lindt (cant remember if I've spelt it right). Prefer home made if poss.

I was given a box of Milk Tray but found them salty. I think i will stick with a box of Dairy Box.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Sun 20-Dec-20 11:44:15

Ferrero rocher, lindor, Terry's choc orange or maltesers for me. Not keen on very fancy boxed chocs as usually too many that I'm not keen on. Used to love milk tray when much younger but not now and don't like dark chocolate. Don't mind baileys truffles but a basic bar of fruit and nut also acceptable. I usually get chocs as tell my kids if they want to get me anything I need to be able to eat it, drink it, wear it or plant it as got no room in the house for more "stuff" ?

EllanVannin Sun 20-Dec-20 11:36:33

Aussie chocolate is certainly an acquired taste, even their Cadbury's as there has to be additives in it to stop it from melting.
Their dark choc, liquid mint filled chocs were my favourite there and the jelly centred Freddo's both Cadbury.

Hershey's ? You can keep it. Yuk.

I have tried making my own chocolate covered ginger this year. Not difficult. It is called 'enrobing' I kid you not!

EllanVannin Sun 20-Dec-20 11:27:53

Mars Bars were nearly a foot long and I too remember them being cut into pieces to have during the day. 2 or 3 mouthfuls now and they're gone, plus the taste isn't the same either which goes for many things when you compare them with yesteryear.

Moggycuddler Sun 20-Dec-20 11:22:23

Old fashioned here. Milk Tray and Dairy Box. Orange cream, strawberry cream, turkish delight, nut whirl, coffee cream, caramel. Yum yum.

GrannySomerset Sun 20-Dec-20 11:15:10

DH still cuts Marathon bars in two and saves the second piece for tomorrow! It’s why he is thin and I am not.

belle60 Sun 20-Dec-20 11:08:40

What happened to the lovely Christmas boxes you used to get with beautiful pictures of the front of the box ie kittens with santa glittery hats and things.

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 20-Dec-20 11:05:47

If it's chocolate - I love it!!
