Heard the Jonah Lewie song ‘Stop The Cavalry’ on the radio this morning. I remarked to DH that it was one song I didn’t like at the time, and still don’t!

Is it the tune, ‘du du, dududu, du du ….’ the words, the singer?

Don’t know, but certainly not in my top ten.

Oh! Liked!
My phone and my fingers and my brain are all working against me...

Mistletoe and Wine is my absolute worst - it’s ghastly.

My favourites are traditional carols sung by proper choirs, not by pop stars with breathy/screechy voices, who muck them about with extra twiddly bits and try to put ‘expression’ into them. ?
I’m fond of a few pop style ones, though - Wham’s Last Christmas is one that comes to mind.

I believe in father Christmas by Greg Lake is the one I almost like.
Is he from Emmerson, Lake and Palmer?

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 16:03:43

I can't stand Santa Baby..

Lincslass Mon 06-Dec-21 16:05:40

Love Slave, Wizard, Cliff, what’s wrong with Christian rhyme anyway, seeing as it is a Christian celebration, now, yes I know about the pagan bit. Only one I can’t stand is anything by Carey.

All of them.

Casdon Mon 06-Dec-21 16:13:32

I’m not keen on any of them from the sixties onwards, although I’m too young to remember them from the time I prefer ones from the forties and fifties. Let it Snow is my favourite.

FarNorth Mon 06-Dec-21 16:14:09

"Christian rhyme", along with the mistletoe and wine and whatever other twaddle he has in that song, just sounds so twee.

I like Away in a Manger, it reminds me of when I was very little at Christmas.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Dec-21 16:19:27

I quite like ‘Wish it could be Christmas every day’ but that’s about it. No slushy stuff. Love hearing carols.
I wish Frosty the bloody Snowman hadn’t been mentioned, can’t get it out of my head now.?

Yes. Greg Lake died.

Just thought of a Christmas song I do actually like, "Fairytale of New York".

Severnsider Mon 06-Dec-21 16:25:22

'I'm dreaming of a White Christmas' - no thank you. The country comes to a stand still at the slightest fall of snow!

Yes, I know - it was all about New England not us.

I can't stand Santa Baby.. shock shock shock falls over with shock

Whaaat? You can't stand that one? Even when it's sung by the fabulous Eartha Kitt? You heathen you MissAdventure!

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 16:32:29

Thank you, calendargirl
Well, I rather like that song, it's quite mournful.

Oldnproud Mon 06-Dec-21 16:33:52

St Winifreds school choir - grandma

Clive Dunn - Grandad

Mary’s Boy Child by Boney M. Awful!

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 16:39:13

I'm not a fan of cheery songs.
Merry Christmas by Shakin' Steven is another horror.

Trisha57 Mon 06-Dec-21 16:41:40

Mary's Boy Child by Boney M always makes me feel a bit cringy!!

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 16:41:42

Nope, not even Eartha can make me like that song, Chewy.
All that hurrying down chimneys, it's not right!

Trisha57 Mon 06-Dec-21 16:43:33

Step into Christmas by Elton John always makes me feel cheery and festive...it's so upbeat.

Calistemon Mon 06-Dec-21 16:51:23

rosie1959

Can’t stand Fairytale in New York The Pogues so depressing or Driving home for Christmas Chris Reah
Love Last Christmas Wham and Stay another day East 17
But it’s not Christmas without Slade and Wizzard

Love Last Christmas Wham

Have you seen the film, rosie1959?

Not of Wham singing, but the film called Last Christmas.
I will say no more.

honeyrose Mon 06-Dec-21 17:14:31

Mistletoe and Wine is rather cringey, but I’m not a Cliff Richard fan anyway. Love love love All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. I love all Christmas carols especially Oh Holy Night. The first time I heard that was on the Home Alone film.

TillyTrotter Mon 06-Dec-21 17:20:11

Fairytale of New York, The Pogues. I don’t know why I don’t like it as many others name it as their favourite, but I don’t,

Grannynannywanny Mon 06-Dec-21 17:31:39

I dislike almost everything mentioned so far apart from Fairytale of New York which I love. I also like All I Want for Christmas is You and enjoy dancing round the kitchen to it with my grandchildren.

Top of my dislike list is Little Drummer Boy.

Parumpapumpum ? Please make it stop!

Flossiebo Mon 06-Dec-21 17:39:22

Oh bums. I like them all ?

Just make me feel Christmassy, .......although Mistletoe and Wine.....?
