Heard the Jonah Lewie song ‘Stop The Cavalry’ on the radio this morning. I remarked to DH that it was one song I didn’t like at the time, and still don’t!

Is it the tune, ‘du du, dududu, du du ….’ the words, the singer?

Don’t know, but certainly not in my top ten.

What's that one that goes 'last Christmas I GEV you my heart.......' It's not GEV it's GAVE!!! For goodness sake.
As for Mistletoe and Wine,,,no, no, no. Cliff, whatever were you thinking? Christ-i-an rhyme......ye gods.
Slade? Used to love it but now I hate it.
No, they are all terrible.
How do people who work in retail put up with having these songs on a loop ALL DAY? I once said to a girl on a checkout in Tesco 'how do you put up with this all day?' She replied 'Oh, I love it!' I must be just a grumpy old grandma.

When a child is born.
Actually, I dislike all of them.

You and me both,
Have yourself a merry little Christmas is like dirge.
Specially dislike jazzed up version of silent night.

I think Carols are quite nice but loathe the “Xmas songs”
But then I am a bit Christougenniatikophobic

I know, I know, but I can't bear tuneless songs from children. No way would I listen to that Grandma/Grandpa whatever it is by Clive Dunn we thing. Carols sung by proper choirs only. My Dad sang in the choir of St John's College, Cambridge so perhaps it's a genetic thing. My excuse anyway.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Dec-21 18:51:33

sorry 'we love you' thing. Ghastly!!!

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 18:59:23

I have to say, though, the mere hint of a school nativity play reduces me to tears these days. blush

Dislike most Christmas songs, especially Mariah Whatsit.
Oh Holy Night is my favourite - we have a busker in Newcastle outside M&S some Wednesday’s - he sang it last week and I saw several people dabbing their eyes - could have just been a bit of grit!
I’m appalled that Sky Sports is using Little Drummer Boy on their advertisement this year. Perhaps their ad team is too young to have heard of the Moors Murderers?

I'm not too young to have heard of the Moors Murderers, Georgesgran, bu what's the connection? I must be missing something here.

Greg Lake was also in King Crimson if anyone remembers them?

ayse Mon 06-Dec-21 21:14:08

I just love old fashioned Christmas carols, the ones that were sung in pubs before they migrated to churches! Also the very old carols that are barely know these days.

To answer OP. Anything that is more modern than the above especially White Christmas and Fairy Tale of New York.

Oh no - missed out the h!

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 21:28:24

I certainly remember the band name, kadinsky.
I seem to vaguely remember a kind of manic rock-a-Billy type song by them?
Perhaps it's all in mind though

Most are awful Little Drummer Boy and Mary's BoyChild are the worst. Cliff is too awful for words. Favourite is Shepherds Farewell.

Maggiemaybe Mon 06-Dec-21 22:31:14

The Moors Murder trial heard that Brady and Hindley played Little Drummer Boy as they tortured and killed Lesley Anne Downey. I have to switch it off whenever it’s played.

I hate Mistletoe & Wine & Marys Boy Child, not over fond of Wham’s last Christmas. The ones I love….Fairy Tale of New York, Chuck Berry’s Run Rudolph Run & Darlene Loves Marshmallow World. Favourite carol at school was Once in Royal David’s City.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 23:02:05

We wish you a wombling merry christmas is up there with the bad 'uns.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 06-Dec-21 23:21:13

Most Christmas Carols are fine but most Christmas Songs are dire. The Greg Lake one (Emerson, Lake and Palmer) is beautiful. George Michael’s Last Christmas is wonderful. The lyrics are bland and ridiculous but his voice…
