There was no need for this thread to become a spat and certainly no need for Annie to consider leaving - or anyone else either.

I feel there are some posters who forget they aren’t still in a uni debating society. This is Gransnet and a forum for advice, companionship or a bit of an exchange of opinions, thoughts etc on the News and Politics thread. This isn’t the place to be winning at all costs, to always be right - it’s not necessary.

I’ve been involved in a few spats myself and don’t deny it but it amazes me the amount of derailing that goes on, especially on the Royal threads.

There’s no need for all the sneering condescension, the sighing (how tiresome having to deal with the less enlightened) and the sarky put downs.

Live and let live. Put your point across and accept that some have a different view. It’s GN and it’s highly unlikely anyone’s going to have a drastic change of outlook in their 60’s and beyond.

I too hope you will stay Anniebach as I always enjoy your posts. Some people seem to be on here all day every day, they pop up on every thread and you can't get away from them.

Just to reiterate what others have said, please don't be driven off Gransnet, Anniebach, by the few unpleasant posters who seem unable to tolerate a different point of view from their own.

There is a cabal of posters who think they own this site and don't like newcomers or each other's points of view either.

Anybody who follows my blog, aka “The Broons” in the Sunday Post, will know it’s “Haud yer wheesht, lassie” - without lapses into what sounds to me more like fluent Yorkshire!

Who reads the Sunday Post? Maybe it isn't true Scots vernacular but the second part is certainly not Yorkshire. As I said yesterday no one can recognise or emulate the way we speak where I come from and it's not Carlile spelt that way on purpose either.

Thank goodness this thread has got back on track after the myriad (to me totally incomprehensible) diversions via xenophobia, chips in Scotland (we never had”sauce”in the Borders - it was “salt and vinegar” with our haggis suppers) politics, morals, flouncing and inevitably Meghan!

At least William and Harry should know what an ironing board is Calendargirl having been at Sandhurst. I know that all recruits spend their first few weeks at the academy ironing uniforms.

And Charles was in the RN - I'm sure he knew how to iron!! ?

Gwyneth diolch, I too think Kate is great, will she in the future be Princess of Wales .

No I won’t lemon , GransNet is my only daily contact with the outside world and there are still some posters left from the

Sorry to all for my part in the flare up yesterday, I took the bait.

William and Kate were able to develop their relationship in private when at university, that gave them time before the media piled in.

Have come late to this thread. I think Kate is great and I enjoyed her piano playing very much. On another note (excuse the pun) and from one welsh woman to another please do not leave Anniebach . I enjoy reading your posts. Sadly there are some not very nice people on here and it seems to be getting worse. I have thought about leaving myself but then that lets the nasty people win.

Going back to Catherine ‘doing’ practical things, I can remember seeing her on an official engagement with Prince Charles. For some reason, an ironing board came into it, and Catherine was seen skilfully doing a bit of ironing. Poor Charles, it was patently obvious that if he had ever seen an ironing board, he had quite definitely never used one!
