My OH got me a retro railway style clock with a thermometer on the other side. It not plastic and looks like the real thing. I chose it! It will look nice hanging on the wall outside. All my other presents were lovely too.

I was lucky to receive lots of nice things, an afternoon tea voucher to use in a nice New Forest hotel, a L’Occitane box of goodies, Liz Earle goodies, some gorgeous organic facial care from my daughter in New Zealand, a delightful photograph frame filled with pictures of our family in New Zealand that made me cry, pink sheepskin slippers, a sweatshirt, a beautiful candle holder, and much more. I was a very lucky girl. However my very best present was spending Christmas Day at my son’s house with all my family around me, apart from our daughter who’s in New Zealand, and elderly mother who’s just too immobile to leave her care home now. And the bonus was the Boxing Day buffet at our house for the same people. Last Christmas we both had Covid and on January 1st I was admitted to hospital, So my best present was definitely my family.
Our youngest granddaughter was hospitalised with pneumonia and suspected sepsis 4 days before Christmas, she was very poorly for a while and we were beside ourselves with worry, discharged on Christmas Eve and on the mend now. Best present ever! ❤️
I too love(d) my 2 bronze hares that stand (stood) on the mantlepiece. But DGS aged 5 had "a little accident Granny" and now there's only one. It looks rather lonely on its own!
I got a nice comfy sweater and wine from my family!
I’m obsessed with hares too - I’ve them on my favourite China mug and have a bronze statue of ‘boxing’ hares. Very pleased at Christmas with 4 bottles of Obsession perfume from different people - will last me all year.
Apologies for spelling!
DH bought me a lively 100% wool tartan rug made in Yorkshire! I tend to be a bit cold when watching TV so I can wrap up in this. It smells wonderful too. Also some friends gave us a lovely framed photo of Dh and me taken at a special dinner we had with them a while back. I have very few photos of us together so this was a lovely thought.
My present go myself was a bristle hairbrush as I lost mine! I’m convinced it improves my thinning hair!
A sitting fox ornament from DH I have quite a few little ones but this is quite big it’s for the summer house. I love foxes and have been collecting fox ornaments jumpers etc for years. Rather eccentric really but it’s what I prefer rather than boxes of chocolates gift sets etc.
Being able to spend Christmas Day with my son and his family at their house. It was the best day as they live quite a long way away from me and visits haven’t been possible.
DH surprised me with a subscription for flowers to be delivered once a month for 6 months. Very pleased with that as I love flowers.
For only the second time in nearly 50 yrs DH surprised me with a present rather than my knowing exactly what I was getting.
A pretty heart shaped necklace
Bikergran yes, we are thinking how useful it will be for all kinds of outings, with picnics and the like.
I can still walk between market and car, but it is hard work and I have to take everything back to the car immediately before going back to the town centre to do the rest of ofthe shopping because it is bulky as well as heavy. Now I can just use the trolley and save myself some time.
Monica I bought my mum one of those shopping trollies with butterflies on, oh she would trot off to Tesco and Morrisons she loved it.
Mums not here any more, but I kept her shopping trolley and when I go to the beach etc with dd and gsns we pile the towels, spades, sunshade and eats with ice packs in it and it's great.
A shopping bag on wheels, patterned all over with butterflies.
I have started buying my veg in the local market, but it is a quarter of a mile back to the car park, so a long slow walk, especially on the weeks my shopping includes 5lbs of potatoes and 3lbs of onions, or else DH needs to come with me. Now veg shoppingwill be a doddle!
All children here Hetty apologies if not for you…
A blueberry plant from my daughter, a hygrometer, soft socks, long night shirt (for going away, never wear at home), new mirror for handbag..more, but, the best, GC’s on our bed at 7am Christmas morning.
Congratulations 62Granny ??
Having the family to ours Christmas Day, as we had a few years apart due to work etc. Then books I received as gifts. I also got a lovely scarf.
I am still a kid at heart (unlike Hetty58 who is far more grown up by the sounds of it), and my favourite present, although I’m very slightly embarrassed to admit it was a pair of Peanuts pyjamas that my daughter gave me- I love them, I was obsessed with Peanuts as a teenager and they bring back such happy memories,
Two presents have been favourites....one is a book from son no. 1 about neurological disorders (I like that kind o thing) and the other from son no. 2 is a very thick book of puzzles, conundrums, quizzes, to keep the brain active. As I'm recovering from a stroke (July), both are useful.
The extended family only buy for the children. Mr. B and I buy each other around half a dozen carefully thought out gifts each, none of them madly expensive. We have so much stuff already, and it’s much more fun this way.
My favourite is this wonderful book, 365 Days of Creativity. It’s designed to inspire you and ‘help you carve out moments of self-expression and unlock your creative potential.’ The last few years have been challenging for me, and not just because of Covid. I feel as though I’m turning a corner now and hope this will help me move out of my shutaway ‘world of the invalid’. Look out world, I’m coming for you!
A bottle of “ Another Oud” by Juliet Has a Gun and a voucher for dinner at Grantley Hall.
The real joy though was having our two sons and DIL staying.
We watched the grandchildren 150 miles away opening their gifts on FT.
I only got one which was a food hamper I will keep it until we can celebrate with family
We don't do presents for adults. It's all about the kids - and we grew up!
My favourite present, a little book I remembered fondly from my childhood, The Dawn Shops.
Opened our gifts today while all the family were here. The box that I hoped contained a Ninja blender/soup maker, turned out to be a ĺarge cushion with arms for reading in bed, a bottle of Kendal mint cake liqueur and a box of Turkish delight.
All very lovely, but I was more than a little disappointed.
