Put any lights or decor up yet?

Moggycuddler Wed 23-Nov-22 11:34:01

Not till about a week before Christmas (daughter always does the baubles on the tree) and they come down on 1st or 2nd January. It's all overwith then. I'm always glad to see all the decs packed away. If it was upto just me, I would probably only display the Christmas cards and maybe a small fibre optic tree to just plug in. I'm a bit bah humbug about Christmas really.

We put our outside lights up but they won’t be switched on until December.

snowberryZ Wed 23-Nov-22 11:49:15

No.
I did think that this year I'm going to wear more Xmas/sparkly tops all through December. Just to get the wear out of them!

We hauled the base of our Christmas Village display out of the shed and into the house last week. I wasn't going to bother as we'll be on our own for Christmas but DH said 'you spent so long making it, it's for our enjoyment as well as the children'. So I'm now in the process of adding fibre optic starry sky lighting to it for a bit of extra sparkle. But it won't be fully set up till perhaps the 2nd week of December. Then we'll put the tree up, my lovely nativity set, the reindeers in the front garden and some other bits and pieces. I intended to keep it simple this year but I know once I start opening the boxes.............. The decorations will probably stay up until the kids visit in the New Year.

I’m fed up of adverts I know you will think what a grump but some of us haven’t got it easy. Ill health family issues stressful time for me and my husband. Glad when it’s over to be quiet honest

Yes. All done and they won't be coming down til 6th January. I hate the cold, dark, short days. Anything to brighten the place up and with my increasing years it takes longer and longer to sort out the lights, tree decorations etc. So an early start this year. Normally it's December 1st.

Special tree fairy today.

Too early at the moment. Not even Advent yet. Put up too early takes meaning out of Christmas for us

HiPpyChick57 Wed 23-Nov-22 12:21:10

Nah

Yahmeus Wed 23-Nov-22 12:21:13

Makes me happy 😊

Jzpap Wed 23-Nov-22 12:22:07

No but I would totally understand anybody that did want to put some lights and decs up, as you say it’d all so doom and gloom at the moment and we need cheering up. Mine will go up earlier than usual but it will be after December 1st

moggiek Wed 23-Nov-22 12:23:00

No, but going up soon, though.

moggiek Wed 23-Nov-22 12:24:54

Lovely tree!!

lizzypopbottle Wed 23-Nov-22 12:25:14

What really annoys me is that, in this time of energy crisis and threat of a hike in council tax, the Christmas lights in both Morpeth and Alnwick (Northumberland) were switched on on the 18th of this month! 😡 Surely the 1st of December is soon enough?

HillyN Wed 23-Nov-22 12:30:16

My DH bought some new Christmas lights to hang above the archway in our lounge. He just HAD to make sure they would fit and work properly. They do. He says there is no point in taking them down now..... grin
He has also bought two new curtain lights for the front windows. I expect we'll be fully illuminated soon!

labradorlinda33 Wed 23-Nov-22 12:33:25

Treetops05 Wed 23-Nov-22 12:54:55

No, it'll go up on the 7th, as my Grandson's 3rd birthday is on the 8th smile

jenni123 Wed 23-Nov-22 12:55:39

I do not put up any decorations apart from any Christmas cards I receive I hand from ribbons attached to my door. i did have a glittery father xmas in a telephone box, like a snow globe but it stopped working so was binned last year. I am disabled so would have to find someone to put up decoration and also take them down again, so don't bother, 25/12 is just another day.

jenni123 Wed 23-Nov-22 12:57:05

* hand = HANG.. why can't I correct spelling in these posts??? Guess I should read them better before posting.

DeeDe Wed 23-Nov-22 12:57:37

Even if I wanted to do any today have so much chaos around that you wouldnt see them! I am (hopefully!) going away for a few days and am surrounded by clean and ironed clothes and shoes and stuff and trying to make decisions as to what to take etc at the moment. This time of year you cant just shove a dress t shirt and trousers and a pair of sandals and it has been the most horrible start to the day pouring with rain all morning, very cold and horrible so definitely need to make sure I have jumpers and gloves etc. In my youth (many years ago!) I could get away with things and stay warm but these days cant move quick enough and need to have something warm to wear or may end up as a frozen granny ice lolly! So the christmas decorations will have to wait until I am back and will enjoy sorting them then .Am I being rather optimistic thinking of some mistletoe??
