Freespiritflowers Christmas is a difficult time for us too and I agree about all the adverts, they get on your nerves after a while don't they.

There's only me and DH. I have 2 DD one will visit for a day before Xmas and the other might or might not visit at all. We don't put anything up until about the 1st weekend in December They all get put away again on NYD.

Christmas hasn't been the same since all the family left home, especially as three of them are in Australia. I go to my daughter's for Christmas Day, but will leave soon after all her friends arrive, to party, in the evening. Last year I got stuck with someone's deaf old dad, and didn't have the heart to leave him all alone. I didn't get home until almost midnight. 🤨

I can't be bothered to decorate the house, when I probably won't have any visitors. The cards will go up, and the Nativity stable that the children gave me, years ago, but that will be all. I'm not really bothered about Christmas any more, though I enjoy singing with my choirs at all the concerts we do at this time of year. I sound a right miserable old git, don't I, but I'm not really!

When my children were small i was a hard line 24th December to 12th night person but I have mellowed with age 😂 my daughter and her 3 boys are now living with me and we are putting the tree up today 😂🧑🏻‍🎄🎄

Missiseff Wed 23-Nov-22 13:45:30

No!

Judlespoo Wed 23-Nov-22 13:46:41

Thinking of not bothering this year. We have a huge hospital bad in the lounge, somehow it spoils the Christmas effect.

Summerfly Wed 23-Nov-22 13:47:30

Love this Nanna8 😍

Soniah Wed 23-Nov-22 13:59:44

Certainly not. For those bemoaning how dull it is why not fill your house with colour all year, at least some bright cushions, a few plants (an Orchid isn't expensive and flowers for months, I have some that are 7+ years old and they still flower every year), a nice colourful lamp, save Christmas for nearer the time and keep until 12th night

Beau1958 Wed 23-Nov-22 14:04:59

No much too early possibly mid December
My daughter has already put hers up doesn’t look right to me

Alison333 Wed 23-Nov-22 14:08:37

All the Christmas soundtracks playing in the shops are really saying 'Give Us Your Money'.........

Froglady Wed 23-Nov-22 14:31:52

My best friend put up her decorations about 2 weeks ago!
Anything I put up won't be going up
yet - and that will probably be just cards on strings down my doors.

Chuck some tinsel and lights around it! x

No, I never decorate until after my birthday which is on one of the last days of this month.

I have started the pre-Christmas cleaning, washed down the six upstairs doors and door-frames and cleaned the three windows. That will do nicely for today. I also have just brought the advent box out from the attic and intend to make my advent wreath either tomorrow or Friday.

I don't intend to put up many Chirstmas lights this year, if any, except battery run indoor strings, as we have been asked to continue to save as much electricity as possible.

I shall stick to old fashioned paper stars and the like.

For the first 30 years or so that XH and I were together he loved Christmas and made it absolutely wonderful.
Then he changed and decided he hated it, but after about 10 years of this he upped sticks and went to live in a far-off land. His new bed-mate is financially dependent on him she’ll go along with his wishes but ………. he’s coming here for a couple of weeks & oh dear the chemo makes me SO VERY weak (I’m actually fine) that I may just have to ask him to get the decorations down from the loft, and who knows? One or two might escape from their boxes. We’re going down to DDs for the weekend and her decs are all up in readiness for him. Bah humbug? No, just family teasing him the way we always have.

Janetashbolt Wed 23-Nov-22 15:24:27

Not having any this year, gave them all to daughters and charity shop

kevincharley Wed 23-Nov-22 15:35:14

They go up at the end of the month so they're ready for the switch-on on 1 December. Or at least, that's theplan.

Rosiebee Wed 23-Nov-22 16:13:17

I always decorate the conservatory for Advent. We have a small white pre-lit twiggy tree from which I hang little red felt numbered boots, each with a chocolate inside. When the GC were young they'd take it in turns to take a boot off the tree and replace it with a red bauble. They're grown up now so DH and I eat the chocolates instead. Cushions are replaced with Christmas patchwork ones I made the year I started sewing again in retirement. There will be a slimline tree in the corner always decorated in gold and red with favourite baubles. The lounge usually gets done about halfway through December. No room for a tree here so focus is on the fireplace and side table that holds the Nativity set. DGS used to love moving the kings and shepherds a bit nearer to the stable and always checked that "baby Jesus" was in the drawer ready to come out on Christmas Day. He still does although he's now 22. He know how to soft soap me. hmm

I will be this weekend! Got visitors the weekend after so need to get organised. Feeling very Christmassy

Theoddbird Wed 23-Nov-22 16:44:28

It is November...why would anyone? Christmas Eve used to be the time to do that. Still is for me...if I decide to put any up of course....
