DH and I have taken our decorations down today.

It’s so nice being able to draw the curtains without knocking over the candle bridges on the window sill, and just being able to move about more freely round the room.

Like to see them go up, but relieved when they come down.

Only 158 shopping days until Christmas. Our Crimbo-obsessed neighbour will no doubt soon be covering his house and front garden with with lights plus illuminated Santa, Rudolph and Snowman. "Bless" him. Bah, humbug!

I’m pleased someone has mentioned sprouts, like the late, very much missed, Victoria Wood, I never put mine on until September.

I think September is the month for making my Christmas cake.
It will be "well fed" between then and Christmas.

My C Cake is in the oven. To be honest, it will probably be scoffed asap, and I will have to make another grin

This has just landed in my inbox from a well-known yarn company!

"It’s never too early to start preparing for the most wonderful time of the year. Beat the festive rush and get your projects underway!"

Lots of craft companies have "Christmas in July" sales.

I was thinking it will soon be time to make the Xmas pudding and then the cake

First, finish the Nativity set.

😁

Why are we discussing Christmas, it's July!!

Perhaps Helen is Australian?

They have Christmas in July over there - the shops are geared up for it
🎄
Start preparing, not long now! 😁

They also have Christmas in July on QVC. 😉

😲
So commercial!

Foxygloves if you're celebrating Christmas in July then yes, probably.
They won't be mushy enough.

Have I left it too late to get my sprouts on? envy (sprout)

I hadn't heard that but that is interesting, mumofmadboys

Interestingly Ukraine who have always kept the Orthodox Christmas on 6 th January are moving their Christmas to 25 th Dec to distance themselves from all things Russian.

Wreaths recycled. Happy birds.

Tree to be recycled and baubles boxed on the 7th.

Lights in garden to stay up. Children's outside fun pack up.

Mamardoit Tue 03-Jan-23 12:10:28

Ours are all boxed up now. A few days early I know. Last year I cleared out the cupboard under the stairs and stored them there. So much easier than messing around with the loft ladder. I have cheated again with the small tree. It still has all its decorations but is covered with an old cot sheet for storage.

The plain led lights are all still out in vases. They brighten the place up a bit on dark evenings. I'm off to the garden centre tomorrow ad hopefully they will have some mini daffs in pots.

What has happened to tradition? The twelve days of Christmas used to be the period of celebration and until recent times decorations were put up not before Christmas Eve and taken down on twelfth night. I sort of stick to this as I do not bring in the Christmas tree early as I like the smell and fresh leaves at Christmas not on 1 December and not be sweeping up dead needles on Christmas Day. But each to his/her own. It is commercialism no doubt that has changed things. Also lots of my cards only arrived a couple of days ago, a shame to bin them so soon!
