After the New year I will be going on a much waited diet to get myself trim for the coming spring.
Welsh Senedd Election - PR in action. This will be interesting!
Is it going to be bread and dripping - to recover from the expense? Or a New Year detox?
Or are you counting on leftovers? If so you have clearly never entertained my 6’4” nephew who has hollow legs or my eldest GS who is rapidly heading the same way! No leftovers when they visit.
Perhaps you already have a freezer full of “other” food? Or will it be macaroni cheese/pasta and tomato sauce/gnocchi with the same?
My post Christmas resolution is to eat up the assorted things I have no idea exactly why I bought - the duck breasts, stewing lamb, side of sea trout and ALL the bags of frozen veg -(those may become soup.)
And I will try not to be sidetracked by all the incredible reductions and yellow stickers on “Christmas” food.
After the New year I will be going on a much waited diet to get myself trim for the coming spring.
Well, we have eaten the christmas cake already!!! I made another one last saturday which remains in the box.
When I was a child we always had the meat leftovers with good old fashioned chip pan chips and pickled onions. Infact it was my third favourite day of the year after Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
This year we will be having similar if there is much left! Might even make some bubble and squeak with the vegetables.
Back to SW for me after January holiday - another half stone to lose before grandaughter's wedding in June.
After Christmas - from 27th onwards - same as any other week through the year.
The whole family is vegetarian - so no biggie!
I’ve not gone overboard with Xmas food having previously wasted so much. So we’ll eat all of the leftovers throughout Xmas week before jetting off to Lanzarote on an AI holiday for New Year.
Turkey dinner on 25th Gammon salad 26th Roast beef 27th pot luck 28th Venison casserole 29th Chippy tea 30th HaggisHogmanay and Steak pie NYD Plus own bodyweight in cheese and cakes
Well done maw it describes it well.
On the first of Jan. in our house,
It will be Gaviscon,
We hope by then there's been a mouse,
And all the goodies gone.
Bought a Turkey Leg from Tesco’s back in November and popped into freezer. That was under £3. Getting a lump of boiling bacon today. That will be £3:50 to £4:50 depending on where I buy it. Then stuffing and sausage meat. All for the many sandwiches I’ll want from Christmas Day afternoon onwards
I love turkey leg as well Mallin much tastier than breast meat and lovely gravy
yummy.
I overbuy and reheat or freeze all the leftovers. Curry, soup, sandwiches etc...
Scrambled egg and smoked salmon on Boxing Day,
cheese toastie with salad the next day - favourite things!
Any meat left over will be sliced and frozen, then we'll use it up through January. It's so great to have things in the freezer and not need to go into a shop much for a while.
Tesco's are doing all sorts of veg at 15p with a clubcard so I picked up quite a lot this morning. That'll freeze too!
I'm going to my youngest DS on Xmas day. I'm buying the turkey crown and beef joint. He'll carve off all the cold meat left and I'll take some home with me for turkey sandwiches and I'll make him a beef curry. I'm going up to see eldest son on 27th for the day then on to MiL on the 28th-29th. I'll get home on the 30th. I've got joints of beef, pork and lamb I've bought in last couple of weeks on very good offers in Morrisons. I'll be taking shortbread, tub of chocolates and cheese board and crackers with me for my elder son. I'm doing the cooking Xmas Eve a gammon ham and New Year's Day beef and a lamb and I'll be catering for 10 plus vegetarian DH. I'll be offering buffet food a couple of times definitely Boxing Day buffet and possibly on Jan 2nd before my visitors go home. I'll be sending most of remaining chocolates and shortbread over to younger son who will eat some and take rest to work to share with colleagues.
I had to replace under counter sized freezer since last Christmas and sadly there is less space in them nowadays as they adapt to higher insulation standards. So there will be less stashed in there to work thru. Always nice to be able to stay out of shops and survive on leftovers.
I'm not sure, is the answer. I'll be leaving the purchase of a turkey till Friday or Saturday, confident that there are always plenty left and I've got a leg of lamb in the freezer as a backup, just in case. I have family both days. My son and his girlfriend who are coming Boxing Day will be bringing a Daylesford hamper, crate sized, with them (work related) which contains a cooked ham, relishes and various cheeses to add to the cold turkey and salads of Boxing Day. There will probably be smoked salmon and cold cooked meats left beyond the 26th. We usually go out for an Indian meal post Christmas on the 27th or 28th. By which time it will be business as usual in the super markets.
Lots of yummy leftovers!
Turkey sandwiches with mint sauce lol
We are out for Xmas Dinner but are taking along the Gammon Ham so will have leftovers from that. We have been promised the leftover veg so DH can have his beloved Bubble and squeak!! [hmmm]
But otherwise will eat our way through everything else from Boxing Day all through January and onwards.
We buy in loads for Xmas just because we love it along with all the treats - savoury and otherwise. But if its gone on Christmas Eve then we don't replace it - it's gone!! Quite looking forward to the Baileys in the evening and the family know that there's a good chance of a meal or snack if they can't be bothered to cook - they are quite proficient at clearing out the sweet bowl when they visit!!
Normally it’s Christmas dinner day two lol but I’m going to my youngest this year so I’m planning on buying some cheap veg and making some homemade soup for the following day as my daughter inlaw doesn’t think I eat so she piles the turkey on my plate lol
I am a vegan and my DGC vegetarians so no left over meats for us but I believe in eating less but better over Christmas so we will eat treat foods and special gourmet versions but not more so there will be less waste
Whatever I fancy. I would plan to work my way through my fridge in date required order but notion may supersede that
discipline....
Living in a rural location, I always used the excuse of stocking up at Christmas as 'in case we get snowed in after'. We'll we were a couple of times! But nothing gets wasted, it just makes pleasant eating after the festivities are finished. And the Christmas cake - not enough time to ice so would be used as a Simnel cake at Easter!
Fancying egg and chips.😁
i will just eat whatever is in the fridge or freezer the same as i will on christmas day, being on my own i just eat what i want, i don't bother with christmas, it is treated as just another day.
Boxing day is our favourite day, just the two of us and it's on with the Christmas pj's and a buffet type day for us.. I put out all the lovely picky bits and we dive in and out as we want. A totally chilled out day.
