WORST Christmas Presents Ever

Not me, but a present from my mother to my husband. A large can of brilliant white paint in a carrier bag.

My MIL, for 3 consecutive Christmas’, gave me a used bar of coal tar soap and a grubby flannel.
Needless to say she made her feelings for me abundantly clear from the start and for the next 38 years 😵‍💫
As a three times a week churchgoer she epitomised hypocrisy.

When I was about 15, an close friend of my mother gave me a clearly well worn mauve petticoat.

My then quite new husband presented me with an 'antique silver' propelling pencil he'd found in a local antique (ie junk) shop. It didn't work then and it never did work.

My late MIL used to give me an apron every yeas because as she put it “I couldn't think of what else to give you!” I think she thought I should do more housework even though I always worked full time. She did not work and her house was pristine!

I had some corkers from my MIL along with the puce cami knickers.
A nightie decorated with muddy footprints had obviously been on the shop floor.
French knickers the cami's didn't work
An electric toothbrush that had to be plugged into the mains, with a note from FIL saying please do not put this in your mouth.
A print of the town where DH went to school, not the nice one with the castle where I went.
A second-hand dress someone had given her ditto second-hand shoes and a vivid green eye shadow.
Was she trying to tell me something?.

A fabric bag to keep potatoes in from my mother. No idea what she was thinking of.

Ex MIL handed me a box of Bath cubes from Marks and Spencers . I can't use them so returned them to the shop to exchange for a nice bath soak or body spray. The staff member scanned the bath cubes and told me they couldn't offer an exchange as they were years old stock ! She was a tight ole bird who I learned exchanged and hoarded presants for years .

A pair of granny Pom Pom slippers when I was 13 from Granny complete with 10 bob ticket.

My aunt once gave my dd a sponge painting kit. She was 14

The first Christmas I was dating my darling late husband I didn't receive a gift from his parents which was fair enough as I had not met them at that point. The following year when I did get a gift it was a plastic duck shaped pencil sharpener! The following year, despite mother in laws best efforts we were engaged, so she upped her game and I got a set of napkins and a silver napkin ring as she couldn't believe I didn't possess a silver napkin ring!

One year DH received a pair of brown striped pillow cases from his Mother.

Seeding calendar from my son …..opened at Xmas lunch in front of many questioned asked ‘am I a gardener’ replied no it’s obviously a joke 🙈🙈 it wasn’t . Let’s just say his list sent was full of expensive items . So relationship bit frosty at moment.

(We all do and our D’s and GC got them as Christening presents.)

It would be about 35 years ago my mother in law gave us a set of curved bottom punch bowl glasses.

We didn't own a punch bowl.

Yes, they sadly 'got damaged' in one of our moves ie, they went to the charity shop

Haha! Thank you for this post it certainly brought back memories and made me laugh. My sister in law always buys “practical” things. One year it was a chopping board followed by a salt and pepper set.

I don't celebrate Christmas but when I was a teenager a neighbour gave me a pack of make-up ...KNOWING I never use it and still don't, I'm now 58... then they moaned bitterly when they saw me not wearing it! I was told I'm was ungrateful! I tried to tell them that I don't use it, don't agree with it but they wouldn't listen! I binned it!

Over time I was also given a hideous ornament of a bear sat on a log that came from the Poundland shop... I know it did as I saw the ugly things in there! Also binned, it was repulsive!

I was, in my 20s given a naked Barbie doll, messy hair, quite battered, that still had the 50p charity shop sticker on it....I don't collect Barbie's! Binned!

Some people really do need to get a brain!
