3 x small-ish, just-little-pictures Advent calendars for the Gdcs.
They went down very well last year. Wanted to get in early so as to have enough choice for 3 different, but equally appealing.

I have made an early start too. I won't see my Yorkshire daughter this side of Christmas so when she was down last weekend she took back the money wallets and gifts I had got together for the Northern contingent and she brought her presents for family this end of the country. I see Smyths have a good toy sale on so I might have to get cracking there before they get snapped up. Result of all this. I don't need to spend time in packed stores during December.

Started, buying bits when I saw them from about June.
M&S food order opens next week too.

I used to be well ahead. Now when I see folk buying for Christmas in September I already start to feel a little overwhelmed.

Hidden the 10s of Advent Calendars away. Purchased the 2024 bauble. Purchased more inflatable tat for Santa's grotto and hold downs.

No other progress.

in my shop a craft and gift shop i was worried I was jumping the gun but people are busy buying but I guess that if you are making things you need to buy early.
I am busy knitting for my shop window in December so far a snowman polar bear santa elf and doggy fairy all courtesy of my fave Jean Greenhowe more to do so will crack on!

I annoyingly normally make a good start, as I have this year.
But my busiest months for others things in my life, personally, are Sept and October!
By the time I emerge from them, I am no longer "ahead of the game".

I start in September only for small things to wrap we give ours money. The GC get plenty of time to write their Christmas wish list.

Mollygo Thu 19-Sept-24 17:40:14

We bought 4 small gifts last weekend. Things family have admired or wished they had. The bonus was that as it’s end of summer 🤣 they were 75%off. Not that we’ll be mentioning that.

Searching everywhere to no avail for the beautiful UNICEF Christmas cards I bought last January in the sale. I wonder if I’ll find them in time for Christmas. Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea after all!

Moonwatcher1904 Thu 19-Sept-24 17:53:25

I've got all the ingredients for my Christmas cake. I made one last year and you could've fed the 5000 with it and there's only 2 of us. So half the ingredients this year. Christmas presents and cards have dwindled over the years so not much to spend there.

LindaPat Thu 19-Sept-24 17:53:50

Just a thought lamusica - did you perhaps put them away with the Christmas wrapping paper , or your decorations? Hope you find them! xx

I have lots of stocking gifts for the GC

Have started putting Christmas food treats in the cupboard.

Sago Thu 19-Sept-24 18:36:45

Half way through the gifts, got some wrapped yesterday.

I love Jean G 🎄patterns, have made a lot of hers. Do please post some pics of yours!

Oh dear, I don’t usually even think about Christmas until the 24th December. By the time I’ve worried about what I’m going to do it’s over thank goodness. This year I’m away backpacking through Sri Lanka until a couple of days before.
My family get presents as and when throughout the year and I refuse to add to the overload of tat that constitutes this consumerist fest. A cheese sandwich on top of a forest of Bowland fell is my idea of Christmas avoidance bliss.

Sara1954 Thu 19-Sept-24 19:59:29

I’ve made a start, but I always think the earlier I start, the more I spend, because I go shopping nearer the time and can’t resist buying more things

M0nica Thu 19-Sept-24 20:02:24

Started buying Christmas bits and pieces at Easter. I have a range of stocking presents tucked away in a drawer.

Jaxjacky Thu 19-Sept-24 20:56:13

Six festive baubles ordered, cranberry sauce x 2 stashed, I won’t really start until we get Christmas wish lists.

Jaxjacky Thu 19-Sept-24 20:59:46

Oops, just remembered, I have had a turkey chat with my butcher friend!

So glad I opted out of xmas many years ago. It saves a lot of hassle, expense and anxiety,

Sara1954 Fri 20-Sept-24 06:15:50

My oldest two grandchildren get a small bag of gifts and money, easy.
The two little ones are fun to buy for, the hard ones are two mid teen girls who give me detailed lists from specific shops in the form of spreadsheets.
I prefer to get specific instructions as I can’t begin to guess what they would like, but they’re always so last minute, and I struggle to find what they want.
My son always has money, and I enjoy buying for my daughters.
I quite enjoy it all, I like to spoil them.

Hi LindaPat. The chest with all the Christmas stuff was where I looked first. Any more suggestions would be appreciated! xx

The trouble with me is I try to be organised but…

Sweets bought early get nibbled, ditto Christmas cake!

Presents bought early get put away in hiding, never to been seen again until 5 Christmas’ later grin

Life is too short for guilt (unless somebody is getting hurt.) smile
