Xmas trees...traditional, stylish or trendy

Do you remember when xmas trees had red bows? Then it was white xmas trees. In 1960s my mother had a tiny silver tree. In shops and garden centres at present the style seems to be mostly pink. A few years ago there were black trees. Then there is fibre optic ones. Which type of tree do you prefer? Do you stick to traditional green and red or do you like your tree to be stylish with all decorations co-ordinated?

I don’t do Christmas trees, but if I did it would be a traditional green one with red and gold decs.

A real tree with a mix of decorations, a lot of them with family connections, no colour theme.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-Nov-24 10:13:15

We have a real tree in the sitting room this is either decorated all red, all gold or a mixture of both depending on how I feel. We have green imitation spruce in the dining room, which is silver and Swarovski snowflakes which have been collected over many years.

The play room will have an imitation tree, not sure of the theme yet.

As you can probably tell I absolutely love Christmas 🎄

Should read is decorated with silver, the tree is definitely green 🎄🤣

We have baubles collected over 38 years .....one when each of AC were born and GC born....baubles from loads of countries we've visited....certainly not colour co ordinated.....but a lovely trip down memory lane every time we dress the tree ....we have coloured lights ... no tinsel on tree

I live alone so don't bother much at Christmas. One year I knitted a tree complete with decorations so I still add some lights and stand that on a shelf in a corner.

A real tree with ornaments amassed over the years.
Never a false tree.

I’ve had the same large green fake fir tree for the past 25 years. Probably more sustainable than a real tree.

Cabbie21 Wed 06-Nov-24 11:05:57

Fake tree here, green, with various decorations of all colours acquired over the years. In my local garden centre fake trees are mostly white or silver.
I have recently redecorated, which included moving a shelf. I had to get the tree down to measure its height. The shelf did not go back up as it would have been in the way of the tree. Priorities.

I have a traditional real tree, I use red, silver, and white plus plain glass ornaments to decorate. I love my tree.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 06-Nov-24 11:23:11

Quite right, too , Cabbie!
I enjoy the tasteful coordinated trees in hotels, but like the happy chaos of collected- over- years stuff on my tree.
A friend is planning to buy all new baubles this year to match her newly decorated sitting room. This astonishes me.

After years of renting a tree, we have succumbed to a prelit, artificial for the lounge. It's decoration depends on whether I can stop who ever is here from throwing everything at it! It is supposed to be tasteful!

We have a white branch in the hall with glass and pink and purple baubles. We also have one on the 'glass corridor' which is probably visible from space.

Me too!
I love my (real) tree and the old (and newer) baubles and trimmings.

My fairy is a mouse. Hand made and missing her tail now.

We have two trees - both traditional. One real, one artificial.

My tree is getting too big now. When we first had it about 6 years ago, I bought special little ornaments, but it needs normal-sized ones now. I have reported it once but maybe it needs it again.
By the way, a living tree doesn't shed needles.

I can't manage putting a fake tree together nor carry home a real one, getting it straight, etc. Four years ago I bought a tiny real tree from the supermarket which has been repotted twice but is still manageable. I am hoping that if I don't repot it again it won't grow too much and will see me out.

A 'proper' tree with a hotchpotch of decorations. Many old and tatty but made by the children over the years, some souvenir decs of happy days and holidays in a kaleidoscope of colour. We don't follow the trend here.

I've done pastel pink for the last couple of years I was given a white tree after Xmas so I am looking forward to using that I have been collecting quirky glass decks where I can x

A fake tree that has been in use for nearly thirty years and still going strong. It does tend to be a bit colour co-ordinated, purely depending on what I fancy when I'm dressing it.

We have loads of baubles that we have collected or been given over the years, some from holidays, that we get out every year and reminisce over as we're decorating.

We once put a small real tree next to the front door under the porch. Things kept going missing and from it and we once saw a squirrel sitting in it trying to eat a (fake) fir cone. Then a cat playing with one of the baubles. We took it down after that.

We have had a black tree for the last twenty years. I loved it, because the colours of the decorations and lights really stood out against the blackness.

Because we're in the process of moving, I gave it to our daughter. I'm still looking for a smaller black tree but haven't yet found one.

missdeke Thu 07-Nov-24 13:49:08

I live in a very small bungalow with no room anywhere for a tree so I can't have a normal sized one. I also have a cat who can't resist anything that doesn't belong to him, consequently my tree is one my mum gave me, it's 3 inches tall, made of gold metal and studded with coloured glass. It's sits on top of the door frame well out of the way of the cat.

Nanato3 Thu 07-Nov-24 13:51:02

Fake fir tree here, green with snow capped branches.
I have lots of baubles that I've collected over 47 years .
No colour scheme, though I do like red and gold.

knspol Thu 07-Nov-24 13:55:51

Have a fake, pre lit, 'twig' tree in the hallway and then have a 7' artificial, green tree for the sitting room but haven't put that up for the last couple of years, too many memories with all the decorations we bought in different places we visited and ones we bought together , even still a couple that DS made at school donkeys years ago and ones given to us when we were first married over 50 yrs ago. Seriously considering putting this one up this year but not sure if it will upset me even more.

GrannyIvy Thu 07-Nov-24 13:58:06

We have a tall fairly thin artificial one in the lounge with decorations collected over many years and lots of memories . I put a small real one in the conservatory as well and we have a real one in a pot at the front door that is decorated up. Last year I hung extra large baubles from a tree in the front garden.
