I’m having a free standing loo roll holder. It’s exactly what I want and I’m really pleased!

Christmas
What would you like for Christmas?
(109 Posts)Have you been asked this question? I never know what to say, but once - just once - I committed myself to: 'I'd love a bird table', I can't remember what I did receive, but it wasn't a bird table and I still don't have one. Whatever I did receive, I'm sure it was equally acceptable and no doubt I still have it in a drawer or a box or a cupboard...whatever it was! So, have you ever answered this question and received something you really wanted or something you never knew you wanted, but was gratefully and gracefully accepted?

A whole wheel of Stilton all to myself, no sharing.

I'm at an age where I need to start getting rid of things so I had to say to my husband and daughter, no more ornaments or jewellery please. To be honest I really don't need anything. However, my daughter in particular loves buying presents and gets more enjoyment out of watching people open theirs than the ones she receives, so I don't want to say don't buy me anything. Therefore, desperately trying to think of something as she's starting to nag. I have a birthday just before Christmas too which makes it even more difficult. Any ideas?
I Love getting a hamper, usually prefer an unusual cheese hamper or tropical fruit hamper.(Go Go fruit) It is such a treat to get some of these things that to me are sheer luxury. Other than that my favourite Happy perfume by Clinique or anything else from Clinique for that matter.
Vinador !!
I have already treated myself to a Christmas present.
My GD and I like Monica Vinader jewellery, it is classy and not expensive.
I got an email saying they had a sale so I have ordered a fine gold chain with a pendant of a single pearl.
I shall pretend my late H bought it for me.
As a coeliac I have asked for a gluten free Christmas cake just for me! I happily make a normal one for DH but having a gf cake given me really takes the pressure off me to make two cakes! Simple pleasures!
Ah, thank you for clarifying what a bird table is! We call it a bird feeder. I wouldn't mind a heated hummingbird feeder, since we have a few around our neighbourhood that do not migrate.

Peace. At home and The World.
We’re you ever a Miss World or other beauty contest contestant?? That’s what they all say, without exception 🤣
This reminded me of one of my favourite stories!
The British Ambassador was in Washington some years back. About a fortnight before Christmas he was rung up by the local T.V. Station.
"Ambassador," said the caller, "What would you like for Christmas?"
"I shouldn't dream of accepting anything."
"Seriously, we would like to know and don't be stuffy. You have after all been very kind to us during the year."
"Oh well, if you absolutely must, I would like a small box of crystallised fruits."
He thought no more about it until Christmas Eve when he switched on the T.V.
"We have had a little Christmas survey all of our own," said the announcer. "We asked three visiting Ambassadors what they would like for Christmas.
"The French Ambassador said: 'Peace on earth, a great interest in human literature and understanding, and an end to war and strife.'
"Then we asked the German Ambassador and he said: 'A great upsurge in international trade, ensuring growth and prosperity, particularly in the underdeveloped countries. That is what I wish for Christmas.'
"And then we asked the British Ambassador and he said he would like a small box of crystallised fruits."

Another Christmas 😄
For my partner to have surgery to have Bert removed.
Bert is a growth, caused by a blockage in the lymph system... think Elephant man, but in the area of his genitals, hanging down below his knees.
He can sit in his rise recliner comfortably without sitting on it, he has to walk sideways because otherwise it swings and pulls at the skin.
It's been affecting his mobility for about 4 years, causing him to take early retirement from the Foreign Office. It's affecting his continence, it's difficult to keep the area clean, which results in repeated UTIs, current one is on its 3rd different lot of antibiotics.
Just for him to be able to go to the kitchen and make me a cup of tea, or for both of us to be able to go out for a coffee would be wonderful.
I would really like a double violin case. I have to take my violin and viola together at times and it is a real faff to take both cases. My viola is ¾ sized, the same size as a full size violin, so this would be ideal.
I give money to sons a d DILs. I have told them I don't need, want anything for the past two years. Somehow tgey have figured out what I would like eg new fleecy dressing gown and an air fryer. I just can't get into all the adult presents at Christmas, GC yes. I enjoy being with one or other family on the day but usually for a week as neither live near me. That's the best present ever.
My daughter is very bossy.
I not only have to provide a list but the links to Amazon so that she can order. She also does the shopping for her sister who is too lazy and disinterested to bother and has no idea what is bought.
I save a Christmas ideas list on the computer as I think of things.
Must get around to forwarding it.
I just want my son and daughter back, and their children 😕
I always ask for book tokens. I have all the stuff I need by now and very specific tastes but I still love buying nice things for my adult daughter.
I used to tell my DDs when small "a tidy house and two smiling girls". I usually got the latter but am still waiting for the former!
My dad once told me, when asked the same as a small child "a pair of shoelaces" - and I bought these for him every year thereafter!
This year we've all had a poor time healthwise so my wish is for a trauma-free Christmas and news of a pregnancy for my youngest DD on her third round of IVF.
I hadn’t really thought about presents yet - but I may be getting better vision after cataract surgery! Best present ever. I’ve been wearing distance glasses for 59 years! I’ve spent a small fortune on glasses and eye tests in that time. Fingers crossed! 🤞
heavenlyhealth It hasn’t got a strap. As an old leather bag, one must be made for it to match the old leather. A shoe repairer is just that. A cobbler or saddler could have done it, but most don’t do that sort of work these days .
I never have any idea what I want for Christmas and birthdays. I must drive Beloved mad.
The thing is, I'm never bothered what people buy me. That sounds terrible, but what I mean is I don't mind what I get.
A few years ago, one of the grandsons, aged over 21, so not a child, bought me a block of Cadburys Dairy Milk. I was just as chuffed as I would have been if he spent a fortune.
I dread the question popping every year.
We are going to treat ourselves to some new dining room furniture, what we have was mine before we were married and (a bit like us) it's somewhat the worse for wear, rather scruffy and has definitely seen better days.
The downside of this is that DH will leave it to me to choose and there is just too much choice, particularly for a Libran who has difficulty in making decisions ... I am spending a lot of time on websites like The Cotswold Company etc. and I lose track of what I like and where it is.
DH asked me what I would like. As we’ve just bought a new to us car and mobility scooter for him, we agreed on something small.
I’ve told him I’d like some dark chocolates from either of two small manufacturers. They’re not the most expensive but a real treat for me as I don’t buy them for myself. He didn’t seem keen on the idea!
Neither I nor my adult children or teenage grandchildren actually need any more stuff. But somehow a cheap fun ( or useful) present isn’t acceptable. So I am stuck for ideas of what to give or what I would like.
However my daughter has planted about 80 bulbs in my garden for me for my birthday / Christmas so I have those to look forward to in due course.
Books books & more books then enough time left to read them all!
I can't think of anything I really want but after reading this thread I will take DH shopping for a bird feeder. Squirrels aren't a problem here but there is a very agile mouse which has worked out how to get to the peanut feeder. So it will have to be mouse proof. Our local cat lover had died and her cats were rehomed, I used to complain that they frightened off the birds but I guess they were good mousers.
I usually tell my family that I don't need a present, my huband sometimes gets me a box of glace fruits and my youngest daughter gets me something nice that I didn't think about.
My oldest son buys presents for the adults in our family and then seems to dish them out at random. Others get presents from him that we would have liked and they don't, and we get very odd things that might have suited them. Very strange.
