I want world peace as do many people. We dont buy each other gifts. I like to donate to local charities.

My Mum used to ask for a big bag of multi purpose compost but no one ever bought it for her.

Now I’m the age she was then I know what she meant and really regret never buying it for her!

I once asked for paint and brushes for decorating. We had very little money and wanted to repaint the children's room. I listed the paint I wanted and the brushes but got none of it. 'Not really a present is it?' I was told. I don't remember what I actually got, I suspect the usual smellies.

I didn't know I would enjoy using a slow cooker until I was given one.

We give presents to sons and GCs and give each other……..nothing. We prefer it like that, and just get occasional treats for each other now and then, not presents. Have had disasters in the past 😱

World peace apart, we only give presents to immediate family and in early November ask everyone to circulate a 'wish list'. No one gets everything on their list, and sometimes we know something someone wants or would lov that hasn't made it to their wish list, but does mean that all gifts are things for which people are truly grateful.

DH ingnored my wish list and gave me my first Kindle many years ago and I couldn't live without it.

Have you been asked this question? I never know what to say, but once - just once - I committed myself to: 'I'd love a bird table', I can't remember what I did receive, but it wasn't a bird table and I still don't have one. Whatever I did receive, I'm sure it was equally acceptable and no doubt I still have it in a drawer or a box or a cupboard...whatever it was! So, have you ever answered this question and received something you really wanted or something you never knew you wanted, but was gratefully and gracefully accepted?
