Why does reading these threads make me depressed?
I think it is because it is still November...

Sorry, but I did say next month which is December. In 4 days' time.
It was meant to suggest a thread for keeping on track with Christmas preparations. And hearing how everyone is organised. And being prompted or reminded if anyone mentions something on the list we'd forgotten. Or just something interesting. Like a sort of group countdown.
Sago reminded me, a gift for the gardener. And also money in a card for the postman.

It is almost December 1st.. Advent. First Christmas dinner for our family. Menu planned, shopping done, wrapping done, linens changed, table to lay and food to cook.. all coming along quite well.

Would that not be depressing to people who compare themself to others and like to keep up. I cannot think of anything worse.

I already volunteer all day every day, just can't take on anymore, but will contribute when I can sorry [tear]

I've got more or less everything either bought or on order, with the exception of the fresh fruit & veg and chilled perishables. There's far too much of it, as we're a retired couple with no families and spend the whole "holiday" alone, just picking at what we fancy. We'll still be eating "festive" food in mid-January, I reckon. So it goes. All the best to everyone with family they can share their Christmas with.

I’ve bought M&S tins of Belgium chocolate biscuits for the doctors & all staff at our GP practice and for our wonderfully helpful independent pharmacy below us. Both have gone above and beyond this year for us and we are very grateful.

Time to write a few lists. 😯

Gosh everyone seems very organised! I love the build up to Christmas and all the decorations. Mr W has just built a platform at the front for the outside tree to stand on (our front garden is all stones and slopes downwards) and I've cleared the last of the leaves up so will put the lights up tomorrow if it's fine.

We've brought all the boxes of decorations out from the storage apart from the trees - I was banned from putting anything in the loft when we moved here 4 years ago but luckily we have this huge outdoor store cupboard that I filled up instead ! Every year I'm told not to buy anything else but somehow always manage to have more boxes! I will start to put them all up at the weekend - Mr W keeps well out of the way as he can't cope with the mess!

I've bought a cake this year with the intention of feeding it but so far haven't taken it out of it's wrapper!

We took the family cards and token gifts with their money wallets inside down south a fortnight ago - we won't be seeing them as they're all working apart from the day itself. We'll have to send money over to our other son in NZ next week - can't send them cards as they are in the middle of moving and so far don't have an address plus they're going to Oz for Christmas. I haven't written any other cards yet - a task I used to look forward to but it gets later every year now!

I've bought a few bits for the freezer but we are having the day on our own this year (our choice - we were invited out but decided to stay home and slob in front of the tv for a change) so will just have a scaled down lunch but still with all the trimmings but lots of chocolates!!

I was just getting on track to start my Christmas then on Tuesday had a fall. I landed on my face, no time to put hands out and now have 2 black eyes, one fully closed, a taped up nose and eyebrow, bruises in places I forgot I had and my daughter threatening to take over my decorations! She's very good, very artistic and her heart's in the right place but she doesn't do it my way, if you know what i mean? Poorly maintained pavements! I should have been at a Christmas market tonight!

I would love to spend the festive season volunteering, what do people do? I have a current DBS certificate.

Delivering food parcel and meals to people who have no one or cannot do it themselves. Serving community lunches. setting up the room/tables and clearing up. Cooking the meal, and everything connected with giving the less fortunate a good time during Christmas. Transporting attendants to and from the community room where the lunch is served. You can even volunteer from home, telephone people who request a Happy Christmas call and chatting to them for a while, you may be the only one they speak to that week. I have now volunteered for 10 years every Christmas and volunteer full time every day. I love what I do. When you volunteer you get twice back what you give in terms of job satisfaction, enjoyment and self respect. You meet lots of people and make loads of friends. What is not to like.

Can anyone recommend a good Christmas-y candle? Pref Christmas tree smelling, rather thanspicy cloves. Not over-powering.. Thanks.

Not tried, winterwhite but looks interesting.

I have been knitting and crafting to get ready for Christmas. Got one set of outdoor Christmas lights up and set on timer so the house is looking bright and cheerful.

I bought this one yesterday in Sainsburys for only £7 instead of £17. It's called wrapping paper pine. I haven't lit it yet, but will report back on the smell tomorrow.

I’m with Martin Lewis as far as Christmas is concerned. We've agreed only to buy presents for closest family and children. Now that the family has grown, no-one a) has enough room and b) wants to do all the cooking, so we now use the money we save on unnecessary presents to eat out together on Christmas Day. It’s great not to have the stress of buying umpteen presents which probably won’t be needed or appreciated.

That is very admirablewin and glad you are fit enough to do so much to help those who are less fortunate. I make tablet every year which I give to family and friends. Money to the adult grandchildren and books and toys to the young ones. No tree or decoration up till around 5th December. Christmas cards are written, stamps on but not posted yet. Been out for a Xmas lunch with my Xmas jumper on. Maybe too soon but others were dressed festive too so I wasn't alone. A few small presents bought, but not all. Time is going so fast
