Oh how my heart sinks although I have to hold my hands up and admit that in years gone by I used to write one “sharing” the exploits of our AC and the arrival of the DGC.

Apologies all round . ( Lucky escape you might think).

So this year as I don’t have a printer I thought I’d send it to you instead.

It’s Chrimbo, guys! Peace and goodwill and all that.
Sorry if you had to go to the Post Office and pay a fiver to collect this, but hey, have you seen the price of stamps? Bet you still think it’s worth it though to hear all about me
I probably can’t read your news as I’m currently, well, not at my usual crib. It was a bit tricky when the cannabis lamps overheated, blew all the fuses and burned the house down. Landlord not too chuffed so I’m keeping a low profile sofa surfing at Sid and Noleen’s for a bit
The kids are great though. Darryl should be out soon, thanks Sir Keir but I don’t know what he’ll say about the little ‘un as he’s 2 next week and Darryl went down 4 years ago. Ah well, cross that bridge when we come to it
Hermione and her kids are doing great. Tonya hasn’t been excluded from her school all year and moves up to Year 1 next year. Well done her! The triplets are a right handful but we let Fluffy the pit bull keep an eye on them so they don’t get up to mischief.
I got a new job last March, didn’t like it much though so I’m going to do another course at the Tech so they don’t stop my benefits Can’t choose between Nail Technology and Nuclear Physics. Reckon the Nail Technology will be the better earner when I finish the course so I’ll prolly do that.
Better get a move on and get out to the shops. As it’s the festive season I’m not going shoplifting at Tesco as per usual, thought I’d go upmarket and go to Waitrose.
Cheers big ears !🎅

Somewhere on the shelf I have one of Simon Hoggart's books, if anyone needs a bit of help with their Christmas letter-writing, I can thoroughly recommend

I have never written "round robin" My friends who live away are all different types of people and have a variety of hobbies, it is so lazy not to write individual letters, not at at friendly.

Romola Wed 11-Dec-24 12:18:11

Well, I'm someone who for the last 30 years has sent a round robin. And so do many of our friends whom we see only rarely. We love getting their news and they say they like hearing from us - well, just me now. So there!

GrauntyHelen Wed 11-Dec-24 12:19:30

Brilliant -the first time ever I've enjoyed a Christmas letter

sodapop Wed 11-Dec-24 12:22:18

Each to their own Romola I don't object to round robins per se. Just when people use them to boast about their families and themselves without showing the slightest interest in the recipient.

sazz1 Wed 11-Dec-24 12:22:28

Never received one or sent one. Think I may be alone on this but perhaps a good thing lol

Tenko Wed 11-Dec-24 12:25:43

That’s hilarious RosiesMaw2 . I can’t stand round robin letters, they portray a perfect happy family with no negatives . I also find them impersonal.
I tend to write a personal note in cards to people I don’t see often .

rocketship Wed 11-Dec-24 12:59:50

LOLOLOL ~~~ Good one!!

* Don't expect any Christmas letters or cards from Canada. Our postal workers have been on strike going on four weeks now.

I will be sending a lot more e-cards this year! [maybe a blessing, eh!! ]

keepingquiet Wed 11-Dec-24 13:04:10

Perfect antidote to these annoying letters which I'm glad to say I no longer get.

Speaking to someone yesterday who said she still sends one to family friends even though she hasn't seen them since she got married- which was 30 years ago!

Bonkers.

leeds22 Wed 11-Dec-24 13:10:27

Great letter but relieved your not my next door neighbour grin

meddijess Wed 11-Dec-24 13:15:01

Replying to RosiesMaw2: Love it!!!

KateW Wed 11-Dec-24 13:19:50

That's brilliant!

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 11-Dec-24 14:54:38

I read a book based on the idea that a harassed mum, exasperated with given yet another task, composed a missive sharing her real thoughts on other family members, including the in - laws, before starting on the official one.
As you may have guessed, the "wrong" one was sent, with many ramifications..

ajp46 Wed 11-Dec-24 14:58:50

Brilliant. Oh, if only I was brave enough to do that 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Have a great Christmas to all Gransnetters 🎄🥳🎅🍾🥂

knspol Wed 11-Dec-24 15:03:20

SuzieHi

If I still sent cards think I’d be tempted to copy your letter & send it on! Ha ha!
(We usually receive at least 2 ‘ bragging type ‘ news letters).

Love your idea!!! If only I dare...

Secondwind Wed 11-Dec-24 15:31:56

Brilliant!

I only get one now from G. It’s the sheer arrogance, really, of thinking that all the recipients are interested.
I wonder how many G gets…

Jules59 Wed 11-Dec-24 15:36:44

Intriguing …. Do tell !!!!

Gannyannie Wed 11-Dec-24 17:29:31

That's great I'm so tempted to copy it !

albertina Wed 11-Dec-24 17:32:41

I was going through a very difficult time some years ago and so was a friend of mine. A mutual friend always sent one to those "perfect family" letters in her Christmas card and both of us felt it was time to send her up a bit.

We co wrote a letter about our children, mentioning amputations, prison sentences, theft, etc. It wasn't well received. In fact her husband rang me up and bellowed down the phone.

Granjeanne Wed 11-Dec-24 18:17:36

I'm afraid that I like getting them and always send one. No boastful, just factual. I can't see the point in getting a card from someone you never see, without any news. A card without news tells you that your acquaintance is still alive. Nothing else. I send 60-70 cards by post and hand deliver about another 20. I couldn't possibly write letters to them all, so a "round robin" is the solution. I keep it to one A4 side, including photos. Most people say they look forward to it and enjoy reading it. For me, sitting down with a cup of tea and reading everyone's news is part of Christmas!

Luckygirl3 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:11:12

We used to get one every year from a friend and it detailed every tiny ting about their lives - it was hysterical. Their children had always excelled in every way possible!

My DDs did a spoof on it one year, standing pretending to read it out, and containing such gems as: "You will be thrilled to learn that Susan has gone up one bra size." etc. etc. ........ It was very funny.

Celieanne86 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:25:54

What a laugh, do they realise just what they are writing.
My husband died 19th December last year just as Christmas cards were arriving with the usual messages.

Think about you a lot and hope you are both keeping well, then news on children, g.chikdren, etc,

After Christmas my daughter, bless her, took my Christmas card list had some little cards printed with the news of my husbands death and sent a card to each name on the list.

So far this year I have received 10 cards 7 of which were addressed to Mr and Mrs, 3 wishing both of us a Happy Christmas and 4 Hoping we are both keeping well and have not had Covid or Flu and similar greeting.

I haven’t written any cards yet but I’m very tempted to write from Celie still living and dear husband wherever he might be. and by the way we’ve had two more great grand children and another one on the way and Bailey died.

Let them wonder who Bailey is, I’ll tell you was he our lovely little dog.😥

Farzanah Wed 11-Dec-24 19:53:15

I would have thought that these letters have been such a source of jokes and parody over the years that nobody with any sense of shame would ever write one again.

pinkprincess Wed 11-Dec-24 20:00:03

My DH had a cousin who used to send us a boasting letter at Christmas. We had a good laugh reading them, it made our Christmas Day.
RosiesMaw2 thank you, you describe my family as well. They are not saints but never boring.
I do not watch soap operas anymore as have my own in real life.
