Oh how my heart sinks although I have to hold my hands up and admit that in years gone by I used to write one “sharing” the exploits of our AC and the arrival of the DGC.

Apologies all round . ( Lucky escape you might think).

So this year as I don’t have a printer I thought I’d send it to you instead.

It’s Chrimbo, guys! Peace and goodwill and all that.
Sorry if you had to go to the Post Office and pay a fiver to collect this, but hey, have you seen the price of stamps? Bet you still think it’s worth it though to hear all about me
I probably can’t read your news as I’m currently, well, not at my usual crib. It was a bit tricky when the cannabis lamps overheated, blew all the fuses and burned the house down. Landlord not too chuffed so I’m keeping a low profile sofa surfing at Sid and Noleen’s for a bit
The kids are great though. Darryl should be out soon, thanks Sir Keir but I don’t know what he’ll say about the little ‘un as he’s 2 next week and Darryl went down 4 years ago. Ah well, cross that bridge when we come to it
Hermione and her kids are doing great. Tonya hasn’t been excluded from her school all year and moves up to Year 1 next year. Well done her! The triplets are a right handful but we let Fluffy the pit bull keep an eye on them so they don’t get up to mischief.
I got a new job last March, didn’t like it much though so I’m going to do another course at the Tech so they don’t stop my benefits Can’t choose between Nail Technology and Nuclear Physics. Reckon the Nail Technology will be the better earner when I finish the course so I’ll prolly do that.
Better get a move on and get out to the shops. As it’s the festive season I’m not going shoplifting at Tesco as per usual, thought I’d go upmarket and go to Waitrose.
Cheers big ears !🎅

I love receiving a letter in my Christmas card giving me all the news from the sender. At least they have bothered to sit down and think about people while they write it. I send letters in my card and I hope they are well received. At least it is better than a scrawl which you can hardly make out because obviously the writing of cards is such a chore and best to get it over with as soon as possible.

Sorry to hear your news Celianne
We used to get several of those Christmas letters. Some were funny but usually boring and boastful. I nearly sent one to Simon Hoggart.

I went off the main offender until one year there was no letter. The following year was a handwritten explanation: Her DS had been arrested, her DH had left with her best friend and several other calamities. At last I felt sorry for her and began to make contact again.

Funny!! Ive never sent one and only receive one a year now which I quite like reading as the third person tense is quite strange and out of the ordinary these days.

I received one letter yesterday which was full of information about the author and her family's ailments and recent operations, including grandchildren. Sadly, this follows the pattern of some of my friends who revel in discussing their health problems. I am just impressed by how much care, attention and time they are receiving from the NHS.

Great post Maw. We only get one now and I dread that all about their golfing 'wins' and skiing holidays, post and numerous photos on FB about their latest long distance travel. I used to really like this couple but its their only contact with us now we havent been selected for a visit or a phone call. Its all a bit 'Look at Me, Don't look at me'.

I send one every year and receive a few. Some I look forward to reading, while others cause me to groan inwardly. I hope mine are of the former variety. I know some friends have said they look forward to hearing my news. I try to include some humour and try not to brag. Though I'm proud of my adult children's acheivements I try to just stick to the facts. A few nice photo's so not too much text to plough through.

My late father in law used to write one which was torture to read. He was very interested in classical music and he and his wife sang in choirs etc. He would detail every concert they'd attended all year with details of the works performed whether as performers or simply in the audience. I can't imagine anyone wanting to read through 4 sides of typed A4 on such topics! It showed a serious lack of sensitivity to think that anyone would be interested including us!
