Manic, sorted or just wish it was the 1st of January ?

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 20-Dec-24 15:32:15

ayse! Get well soon. It all sounds so painful.

M0nica Fri 20-Dec-24 16:02:56

Running a bit late, because I am a bit low on stamina after a nasty respiratory infection but have revised the spread sheet and everything will be done and ready for the Big Day.

I hate hate HATE last minute panics and rushes, and exhaustion, so avoid them at all costs.

I think you meant Ziggy62 Friedgreentomatoes? 😊.

I’m just about done, I’ll be collecting the meat from the butcher on Sunday (they’re open that day rather than Christmas Eve).

All the other shopping apart from getting a few perishables is done.

We didn’t buy gifts for most of the family again (this was agreed a couple of years ago), which removes a lot of anxiety and pressure.

My OH’s gifts are wrapped. So, it’s relax and enjoy time now.

So sorry to hear about your fall Ayse. It sounds very painful and incapacitating. I hope you will be mobile reasonably quickly. 💐

To all of you feeling “meh” , exhausted or completely fed up with it, I wish you well and hope that you can have some “me” time to do just as you please. Take care. 💐

I'm sorry, I've just watched the Salvation Army advert and really feel quite ashamed of myself. I have a lovely home, fridge and freezer full of food, presents under the tree, family fit and well even if they are all living away
Sometimes we have to be thankful for what we have
Merry Christmas everyone
🎄

Oh we've still got some of the food shopping to do and present wrapping. Some really big boxes, but at least they're regular shapes. We've bought our young grandson a golf bag, it's in a box which is good, easy wrapping. My OH has been taking him to the driving range and he's bitten the bait, well for the time being anyway. He already has his own cut down to size golf club and he's getting another one for Christmas, a 5 iron I think. Granddaughter wants money, but I've bought her some bits and pieces to unwrap today and popped into our M&S for one of their chocolate/orange Panattones, we were offered a small one the other day at friends and it was delicious. I wanted to venture to our catholic church whilst we were out to see what time the masses and carol services are, but on Friday, it seems there are wall to wall funerals sad a lot of mourners gathered so we didn't go in. Other than that house decorated, cards posted and Christmas bedding on the guest beds.

Chasing my tail a bit at the moment. So I'll say manic.
Tried out the battery operated knife sharpener I bought, but it was useless
Still searching for a gravy boat that doesn't look like Aladdin's lamp.
Local cards need delivering.
Missed the postman earlier to give his tip.
Food shopping, and turkey collection on Monday.
Apart from that, everything else is ready.
I ❤️ Christmas too. 🎄 🤶 🌲 🧑‍🎄 🎄 🤶 🌲

Happy Christmas to everyone on GN.

HousePlantQueen Fri 20-Dec-24 16:44:26

Sorry to hear of your accident Ayse and your flu Roses, my best wishes to you both.

hulahoop Fri 20-Dec-24 16:45:32

Oh you poor thing Ayse hope decision is made soon.
I've been low with having cold and cough can't get in the mood I will have to give myself a shake .

GrannySomerset Fri 20-Dec-24 16:46:20

No family till teatime on Boxing Day and am out for lunch on Christmas Day so will shop on Sunday and hope for the best. Very unlike years past when I would be running hard to stand still and in some ways I am relieved, in others feel cheated. There’s no pleasing some people!

Casdon Fri 20-Dec-24 16:55:57

Not very organised, but getting there. We have been out for a festive lunch today, and I’m going to visit family three hours away tomorrow, so wrapping their presents now. Plenty more to do still, but I’m not stressed, it will all be fine - and if I’ve forgotten something it’s not a big deal, as my crew are forgiving, and will pitch in to help.

Pantglas2 Fri 20-Dec-24 17:01:11

I’m another sorted but not yet finished…I’d be lost without my lists! However I am mindful of the old Jewish saying, Man plans and God laughs…

Smileless2012 Fri 20-Dec-24 17:03:02

So far so good because it's never easy with DS in Aus. and being estranged by our youngest 12 years ago on Christmas eve no less.

Last of the food shopping done today. Our home looks beautiful inside and out and we've several social engagements to look forward too, beginning on Sunday.

fancythat Fri 20-Dec-24 17:10:20

Some guests already here. So sorted!

Allira Fri 20-Dec-24 17:12:29

ayse! Hope you don't need the operation and a leg brace will work, but sending best wishes whatever the decision after they view the X-Ray results.

It’s just Sod’s Law
It is, isn't it! One moment all is tickety-boo, the next moment you're flying through the air, landing and damaging some part of you. I do empathise.

Hope you get well soon.

fancythat Fri 20-Dec-24 17:14:41

I have guests until 4th Jan. Continuous. One group leaves after Christmas and another arrives.
17 for Christmas Day lunch.
I dont like to think too much about what it all entails. Best that way!

Allira Fri 20-Dec-24 17:16:42

RosesandLilac

Absolutely no interest, not helped by having a dreadful cold/flu bug that put me in bed for three days.
I made DH write a few cards and post them, I have Ocado delivering a few bits and that is that.
It’s my birthday tomorrow and I honestly couldn’t care less.

Oh dear, it's a horrible virus. I've missed a few Christmas do's as well.

Stay warm and drink plenty (not alcohol!), hope you feel better for your birthday tomorrow.

crazyH Fri 20-Dec-24 17:22:24

ayse sorry to hear about your fall - hope you get well soon. Merry Xmas to all GN members and also to GNHQ 🎄🎅xx

B9exchange Fri 20-Dec-24 17:25:20

I had to get everything done super early as had PIP joints on my left hand replaced on 10th. A bit taken aback by the pain, a bit easier now, and can discard the splint from time to time. We won't be able to get to Midnight Mass as DH cannot drive in the dark and I am out of action for three weeks.

But I have to confess it is rather nice to just sit back these last few evenings, in a decorated house, with no last minute food prep. Who knew that you could freeze a whole fully marzipanned and iced cake!

Poor you Ayse what a terrible thing to happen. You may well spend Christmas in a morphine induced haze, I wish you a really successful recovery.

garnet25 Fri 20-Dec-24 17:44:21

Firstly Ayse so sorry to read about your fall. Is there any chance that you could still get to Bristol?
Sadly Our 2nd son died at the beginning of December in 2007, since then Christmas has not been our best time however we were blessed with a granddaughter 9 years ago and from then on we have spent Christmas with our Son DIL and GD which has been been a huge help as it is wonderful to see her joy .
Wishing all Gransnetters a peaceful and joy filled Christmas.

rafichagran Fri 20-Dec-24 17:44:52

All done, I love Christmas. Last card written today. X

rafichagran Fri 20-Dec-24 17:45:11

Sorry the x was a typo.

Allira Fri 20-Dec-24 17:52:54

😁
Don't worry x

Grannynannywanny Fri 20-Dec-24 18:13:40

So sorry to read of your fall Ayse. I hope you’re not in too much discomfort. Wishing you a speedy recovery 💐

I’m expecting my Son, Dil and 2 youngest grandchildren and big daft Labrador to arrive shortly for the weekend. I filled the dog’s water bowl expecting her to be thirsty on arrival after the long car journey. Then I remembered when they arrived a few weeks ago the dog was so excited she jumped on the bowl of water and sent it flying. So I’ve emptied it again till they’ve arrived and calmed down 😆

I feel like I’m just going through the motions this Christmas and my heart's not in it . My best friend of 40 years died suddenly earlier this year and I miss her so much. She’s very much on my mind and I’m thinking of her husband and family facing their first Christmas without their lovely mum and gran.

ayse Fri 20-Dec-24 18:42:40

Thank all of you for your kind wishes. Six weeks minimum but I’m not sure what they are doing yet. It’s not too sore and may have a special splint.

Was it Rose who has the flu. Poor you and hope you are well soon.

Happy Christmas to all at Gransnet 💐💐
