We have whittled down our Christmas card list over the last few years and this year it will be cut down again. We used to send around 80 cards, last year it was about 40. We don’t speak or see around half of the people we send cards to but ‘like to keep in touch’! Not this year though. If we have their email or phone number we will use that to send them seasonal greetings.

The only reason I think about C*******s now is that I have to arrange projects for our craft club. Apart from that December is soon enough.

BlueBelle

Nothing harsh or rude just leg pulling and horror rafiagran

Yours was Bluebelle but a couple have been condescending and nasty. Like I say I love Christmas and it starts in December but let's be tolerant and accept others views.
I was reading a Christmas thread on Mumsnet and some of the posters are starting christmas shopping now to spread the cost. I am lucky I don't have too.
One poster was very dismissive of the question.

Christmas is spoilt by starting it far too early. I will think about it around the first of December.
I'm not falling into the trap set by supermarkets to get people to spend even more money.
The financial pressure put on hard pressed families by Christmas is bad enough without starting it in August.

I love Christmas but for me it starts in December, but I know other people are different.
I honestly think some of the replies here are harsh and rude, just because some of you don't like the question.

I am so sorry if you think my comment was harsh and rude. I believe the same about your last paragraph. Surely we are allowed to state our views, just as you are.

No! There should be a ban on even mentioning ***** before the end of November and Halloween should be banned altogether. Just ways to extort more and more money from us.

Shops would not display item if people are not buying. I guess some people buy early to spread the cost??

eddiecat78 Fri 29-Aug-25 07:44:28

For goodness sake - why would anyone waste a third of the year thinking about just one day?!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-Aug-25 07:40:37

Went to a local(ish) garden centre for lunch yesterday, the main hall was cordoned off with a very large sign indicating Christmas arriving 11th September, along with German Christmas Market

RosieandherMaw Fri 29-Aug-25 06:53:45

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is wrong on so many levels, it’s still only AUGUST!
Nobody’s business but their own how many cards they send . They may have friends all over the country or they may have formerly only sent cards locally. But either way it is TOO EARLY to start this pointless (non) discussion.

Calendargirl Fri 29-Aug-25 06:41:21

Oh, for goodness sake!…

argymargy Fri 29-Aug-25 06:15:34

I visited my local Tesco yesterday and the “seasonal” aisle has Xmas puddings, cakes, mince pies…

BlueBelle Fri 29-Aug-25 06:13:09

Oh stop it Fidelity 🤣
As Croistitchfan says it’s August !!!
No way am I remotely thinking about the dreaded C word

Crossstitchfan Fri 29-Aug-25 00:41:44

How can you even think about Christmas? It’s the end of August! 😱
In answer to your question, I shall only be giving cards to my youngest grandchildren. As a family, we agreed ages ago that we did not intend to pay the exorbitant price Royal Mail are charging. All my friends and neighbours feel the same, if their actions last year are anything to go by, when most of them refused to send any. Royal Mail had better watch out!
My hairdresser told me this morning that she is already dreading the time between now and the big day as most of clients are talking about it already, some have been for a week or more. She said it’s hard to chat about something that’s 100 days away! I couldn’t agree more.

How many Christmas cards will you send this year with postage being so expensive ?
